Timed to Mental Health Awareness Month in May, the “Real Meals” include the Blue Meal, Salty Meal, Yaaas Meal and DGAF (Don’t Give a F---) Meal. Justice is served: deep-fried and in a paper sleeve. A Connecticut judge’s decision has resolved a legal quandary that stupefied some and left others flat-out hungry: Could a police officer mistake a McDonald’s hash brown for a cellphone? In Jason Stiber’s case, the answer is “yes.” He was found not guilty Friday after successfully contesting the $300 distracted driving citation he received last year. “It was the case of the century,” Stiber’s attorney, John Thygerson, said with a laugh. “He was quite pleased. Obviously, he was quite pleased.” Stiber’s victory comes nearly 13 months after he was pulled over by...

The McDonald’s at State and Chicago, in the upscale Gold Coast neighborhood, has a history of problems. Chicago police have been called to the restaurant more than 30 times during the past month. During the recent incident, a security guard asked the two men to leave after they were disruptive to customers and employees at the McDonald’s at 10 E. Chicago Ave. around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The men exchanged words with the security guard before...

Nearly one quarter of McDonald’s Filet-of-Fish sandwich sales take place during Lent, when many fast-food customers are abstaining from meat. That’s exactly what the McDonald’s operator who first put the cheese-topped sandwich on his menu had in mind back in 1962. According to an account in Reader’s Digest, when Cincinnati McDonald’s franchise owner Lou Groen noticed that his heavily Catholic clientele was avoiding his restaurant on Fridays, he suggested to McDonald’s owner Ray Kroc that they add introduce a fish sandwich. Kroc thought fried fish wouldn’t fly, but suggested offering customers the choice of a meat-free “Hula Burger” made of...

In recent years, the Big Apple's fast food industry has trailblazed for employee protections and higher wages, particularly as the driving force behind the "Fight for 15." It's a battle they won with the passage of New York's $15 minimum wage law. Now they're setting their sights on eliminating unfair firings. "Workers have told me they've been fired for no reason at all," Democratic City Councilman Brad Lander, who introduced a bill to ban the practice in the fast food industry, told The Guardian. "Should employers have the right to fire people for any reason, including the most trivial reasons?...

The partial government shutdown glided into its third week Saturday with no end in sight. If the government is not reopened before February, millions of Americans who receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) -- the nation's food stamp program -- could have their assistance disrupted. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees SNAP at the federal level, is one of the agencies unfunded during the partial government shutdown. Although SNAP is automatically renewed, it has not been allocated funding from Congress beyond January. Congress has appropriated $3 billion in emergency funds for SNAP distribution, but that would...

Scientists Just Found Something Absolutely Shocking on These McDonald's Self-Order Touchscreens The discovery of fecal bacteria on McDonald's self-order touchscreens is raising concern about their safety. By Peter EconomyThe Leadership Guy @bizzwriter CREDIT: Getty Images Fast-food giant McDonald's has been rolling out touchscreen self-order kiosks in its restaurants for the past several years. While they make ordering your Big Mac, fries, and chocolate shake more efficient and accurate (and they're actually kind of fun), yesterday scientists revealed that they found something on those touchscreens that should be of tremendous concern for McDonald's customers. A report said that fecal matter was discovered on every McDonald’s self-service touchscreen swabbed during an investigation in the United Kingdom. Samples were taken at six McDonald’s locations in London and two in Birmingham. The samples all revealed a contamination of coliforms, which are found in human fecal matter. “We were all surprised how much gut and fecal bacteria there was on the touchscreen machines. These cause the kind of infections that people pick up in hospitals,” said London Metropolitan University Dr. Paul Matawele, according to The Metro. “For instance Enterococcus faecalis is part of the flora of gastrointestinal tracts...
