“Drinking alcohol can reduce the severity of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis,” according to the Daily Mail. The newspaper said that non-drinkers “are four times more likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis than those who drink alcohol on more than ten days a month”. The research behind this news used a questionnaire to ask people with rheumatoid arthritis and a group of healthy volunteers about how often they drank alcoholic drinks. The results showed that frequency of alcohol consumption was associated with both the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis and the severity of the disease.

U.S. Congressman Ted Poe (R-Houston/Beaumont)was on KTRH (Houston) this morning. He said that he had spoken with "moderate democrats", and reports that they are saying that healthcare is dead. It seems that there are a few House dems who have gotten the message. With their own election looming in less than 10 months, perhaps they are now more frightened of their constituents than Nancy Pelosi. Their may be a fracture developing in their party. With statements like this coming out, along with what Webb and Bayh said the reality is starting to sink in with the pragmatic ones that a...
  • Diyala River bridge to link villages, markets

MUQDADIYAH – U.S. and Iraqi Soldiers are collaborating on a bridge and road project to span the Diyala River, connecting villages here to the thriving city markets. While the nearest market is tantalizingly within view just across the river, farmers here currently have no way to cross the flow. They must travel 24 miles around the river to reach the market, the place to sell crops, livestock and purchase food and supplies for their families. For farmers on foot herding livestock, roads leading up to the new bridge will be expansive for this purpose. "The bridge and road will allow...

BUENOS AIRES (AFP) – Scientists have found fossil remains of an omnivorous dinosaur in Argentina -- a missing link to the carnivores, a researcher said Monday. "It is an omnivore -- in other words it ate everything (plants and meat) -- which is the missing link between carnivorous dinosaurs and giant four-footed herbivores," said Oscar Alcober, also director of the Natural Sciences Museum in San Juan, 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) west of Buenos Aires. "This is a very important piece of the puzzle on the origin of dinosaurs," said Alcober. Alcober and Ricardo Martinez, chief of the museum's paleontology division,...

According to highly reliable intelligence sources, two boatfuls of weapons and some 18-20 terrorists most likely came from Karachi in Pakistan. Intelligence agencies are zeroing in on the Lashkar-e-Tayiba as the agency behind the terror attacks. The initial interrogation of terrorists captured in Mumbai has yielded some basic information. According to sources, for some time the directions kept coming "live" to the terrorists in Mumbai via satellite phones. The intelligence sources said information is coming out quite rapidly because some six terrorists, who are in the custody of the Mumbai police, are under interrogation right now. He said the entire...

Wellington, New Zealand -- A New Zealand researcher who is one of the world's leading experts on the kind of mental health problems women face after an abortion says the new report from the American Psychological Association denying any link flies in the face of the best studies. Dr. David Fergusson conducted a seminal study in January 2006 that found women who have abortions are more likely to become severely depressed.

Washington, DC -- A panel of the American Psychological Association released a new report Wednesday that came to the conclusion skeptics predicted. The organization, which supports legalized abortion, claims abortion causes no mental health problems despite recent research proving otherwise. The group's conclusions aren't a surprise given that pro-life advocates and a psychology professor both noted the organization stacked the panel with abortion advocates.

A pro-life group in Texas is drawing attention to the Abortion Breast Cancer link and Planned Parenthood's relationship with the Susan G. Komen Foundation with a new billboard that raises serious questions -- and is drawing fire. Pro-Life Waco has set up a billboard on the 1700 block of Franklin Avenue that poses suggestive questions: "What? An abortion increases my risk for breast cancer? Why does the Komen Race grant $45,000 to Waco's Planned Parenthood abortion provider?" The billboard also shows a concerned woman and has a pink background –- a color now associated with the breast cancer awareness campaigns...

Missing link feather fossils found in France By Roger Highfield, Science Editor Last Updated: 6:01pm GMT 20/02/2008 Primitive feathers that represent a key missing link in their evolution have been found, fossilised in 100-million-year-old amber from France. The fossils mark a step towards the shape of modern feathers As long as scientists have studied birds, they have puzzled over that most intricate of avian features - the feather. Because it is a marvellous feat of biological engineering, it has been siezed on by creationists trying to find evidence of designs that lie beyond the abilities of evolution. Scientists themselves have...
  • NATO-Afghanistan Link Holds Lessons for Future, Gates Says

MUNICH, Germany, Feb. 10, 2008 – NATO and Afghanistan are now intertwined, and the experience holds many lessons for the alliance’s near- and long-term strategy, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said here today. NATO’s effort in Afghanistan shows not only how far the alliance has come from its original mission of confronting the Cold War era’s Soviet threat, but also how far it has to go to become a force for the 21st century, the secretary said at the 44th Munich Conference on Security Policy. “There is little doubt that the mission in Afghanistan is unprecedented,” Gates said. “It is,...
