When are 335,000 new jobs not 335,000 new jobs? When Washington makes them up and the media dutifully report them with all due breathlessness. ... The workweek, itself, contracted to 34.1 hours from 34.3 in December and 34.4 in November. This is the lowest number since March 2020 (the pandemic) and, before that, November 2008 (Great Recession)." Rosenberg Research calculated that, despite the job gains, total hours worked actually contracted .. In fact, the Household Survey — "the one the media ignores," as Barone put it — "showed up with a -31K headline jobs number, and a fall of -63K...

Here’s a little story that clearly demonstrates the effect that 40+ years of Commie/anti-American propaganda taught in public schools has had: ‘Anti-work’ threads on Reddit are fueling the Great Resignation. On Reddit, the “antiwork” subreddit is now one of the social network’s most active and engaged pages, after seeing explosive growth during the COVID-19 pandemic. It currently has more than 1.6 million users, up from 180,000 in October 2020. People post epic text and e-mail screenshots of quitting their jobs, but the real heroes are so-called “idlers” — those who stay in jobs doing the absolute minimum to get by...

California’s unemployment rate still lags the national unemployment rate of 4.9 percent. More than 1 million people remained unemployed. California has gained 2.3 million jobs since the economic recovery began in 2010. The unemployment rate was 6.1 percent last July. Closer to home, numbers were better in Los Angeles County, where the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.8 percent in July, down from a revised 4.9 percent in June. In Orange County, the unemployment rate was up slightly at 4.6 percent from 4.4 percent in June.

The U.S. unemployment rate remained at 4.9 percent in July, the Labor Department said Friday. But relying on that one number as an indicator of the job market is an oversimplification of the complicated world of employment. Each month on jobs Friday, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics puts out a slew of employment-related data, each of which tells its own story about the jobs situation. Most economists look past the official unemployment rate — also known as the "U-3" number — to other metrics that provide other views of the state of jobs. One of those figures is...

“The longest streak of private-sector job growth on record”! “U.S. businesses have now added 14.4 million jobs over 73 straight months”! “The labor force participation rate rose to 63% in March, the same level as in November 2013”! All those quotes — minus the exclamation points — came from White House top economist Jason Furman. And they are all accurate. What’s missing, however, is context.
