Our army was not ready, and lacked skilled leadership when the Civil War started, many of the good officers had gone to the other side, which was far from ready also, and the next years were spent blundering against each other until the strongest got ready learning from its many mistakes and finally overpowered the other side.

I'm frustrated how far local political discourse has fallen into the toilet. The advent of the tea party is the prime culprit for causing this. Local anti-military , Kona airport noise complainers ,who sought to bring forth a NIMBY petition were soundly defeated by an outpouring of support for the U.S. Military and their touch & go training needs . The NIMBY petition garnered 4 or 5 signatures , while the U.S. troops supporters who chose to sign a Resolution of Appreciation and Support for our U.S. Military and their training needs , numbered over 50 .
