A Kokomo woman whom officials say tortured and mutilated cats and dogs while filming the actions on social media was arrested Tuesday afternoon during a raid of her residence just outside Kokomo. Local and federal authorities spent several hours searching the home near the intersection of Malfalfa and Zartman roads on Tuesday, according to a media release from the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Indiana. CARBON, Texas - Weary fire crews kept up their fight Monday to contain major grass fires across Texas that had burned dozens of homes and apparently destroyed a couple of tiny towns. Other fires across the drought-stricken region had charred thousands of acres in Oklahoma and New Mexico, forcing hundreds of people to evacuate. Officials warned that the dry, windy weather and extreme fire danger would continue. "We don't know where we will be today," Oklahoma City Fire Department Maj. Brian Stanaland said Monday morning. "At this point, we consider the whole city a target for grass fires." Computer models...

MARYSVILLE-- For more than a month, workers at a small auto supply plant outside Port Huron have fought bitterly to keep the United Auto Workers from organizing their shop. The blue-collar denizens at Schefenacker Vision Systems USA occasionally picket outside the factory -- carrying homemade signs with slogans like "UAW Kills Jobs" and "Proud to be union free." Union resistance efforts are nothing out of the ordinary in Georgetown, Ky., Canton, Miss., or any other Southern town where foreign-owned auto plants are popping up. But such passionate opposition from Michigan factory workers, many of whom grew up in hard-core UAW...

Back-to-back combat tours can cause headaches for Marines and heartaches for their families, but for Sgt. C. Alexander Wolf, it’s just another day at the office. Wolf, the signals intelligence chief for 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward), is on his fourth deployment to the Middle East, dating back to 2003. The Kokomo, Ind., native, works for the Wing’s intelligence division, whose duties range from intercepting and analyzing electronic communications signals to...
