An 89-year-old woman was sucker-punched in the face by a man as she walked on an Upper Manhattan street this week, police said. The NYPD released images Friday of the suspect in Monday’s assault in Washington Heights. The Senate is working to wrap up an anti-Asian hate crimes bill this week as senators near a deal on changes to the legislation. The bill, introduced by Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), will likely come up for a vote as early as Wednesday, a Senate Democratic aide confirmed to The Hill. "I'm optimistic we can finish our work on the anti-Asian hate crimes bill later this week in the same manner we started it, with an overwhelming bipartisan vote. And let me say it's needed," Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said from the Senate floor on Monday.

Fueled by the coronavirus pandemic, attacks against Asians surged in 2020 in New York City, city officials said Tuesday. An NYPD’s hate crime task force recorded 28 anti-Asian attacks last year — compared to two incidents in 2019, according to Deputy Inspector Stewart Loo. “Obviously, we didn’t have the pandemic,” he said about the jump.

An 84-year-old man named Vicha Ratanapakdee, an immigrant from Thailand who was nearly blind, was knocked to the ground by a 19-year-old man later identified as Antoine Watson. FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. — The Frederick County Sheriff's Office has charged two teens for the random, unprovoked physical attack of a 59-year-old man at the Great Frederick Fair. The victim was found near the midway area of the fairgrounds around 5:36 p.m. Friday, lying unconscious.
