Ex-president Bill Clinton is urging the U.S. to establish a dialogue with Hamas in the wake of its upset victory in last week's Palestinian parliamentary elections, saying it would be wrong to cut off contact with the terror group just because they may have killed people "in a way that we hate." "You've got to find a way to at least open doors," Clinton told the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Saturday. "And I don't see how we can do it without more contact." In quotes picked up by the Associated Press, Clinton said Hamas might "acquire a...

The US Navy welcomed the latest member of its fleet today. Pictured above: the USS William Jefferson Clinton CVS1 set sail today from its home port of Vancouver, BC. The ship is the first of its kind in the Navy and is a standing legacy to President Clinton and his foresight in military budget cuts. The ship is constructed nearly entirely from recycled aluminum, and is completely solar powered with a top speed of 5 knots. It boasts an arsenal comprised of one F14 Tomcat or F18 Hornet aircraft which, although they cannot be launched or land on the 100...

They're ba-aack. Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush, America's political odd couple, are teaming up for another big roadshow, this time to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Last week, they stood shoulder to shoulder with President George W. Bush in the Oval Office, the 59-year-old Clinton now completely gray and looking a bit fragile, and the 81-year-old Bush looking stooped and a bit weary. Later the pair appeared together in Houston, chatting with evacuees at the Astrodome and the Reliant Center Arena. Their goal was to demonstrate unity at a time of calamity.

In September 2000, one year before the Al Qaeda attacks of 9/11, a U.S. Army military intelligence program, known as “Able Danger,” identified a terrorist cell based in Brooklyn, NY, one of whose members was 9/11 ringleader Mohammed Atta, and recommended to their military superiors that the FBI be called in to “take out that cell,” according to Rep. Curt Weldon, a longtime Republican congressman from Pennsylvania who is currently vice chairman of both the House Homeland Security and House Armed Services Committees. The recommendation to bring down that New York City cell -- in which two other Al Qaeda...

The organization, which distributed the blood in the 1980s, paid a fine of $4,000 for causing more than 1,000 Canadians to contract blood-borne HIV and as many as 20,000 to become infected with hepatitis C. Regarding "Filibuster's traditional use is ignored" (Letters, Wednesday): The writer said the filibuster has never been used before to block a judicial nominee. The truth is that during the Clinton administration, 60 judicial nominees were blocked by Republicans, using means including the filibuster. In fact, Bill Frist even joined in the filibuster of 9th Circuit nominee Richard Paez. Also, Democrats have approved more than 200 of President Bush's judicial nominees while only 10 have been blocked. For Republicans to make such a big deal over those 10 nominations while they blocked 60 of Clinton's nominees is extremely misleading and hypocritical....

Senator Hillary Clinton was invited to address a major gathering of the Native American Nation two weeks ago in upper New York state. She spoke for almost an hour on her future plans for increasing every Native American's present standard of living, should she one day become the first female President. She referred to her career as a New York Senator, how she had signed "YES" for every Native American issue that came to her desk for approval. Although the Senator was vague on the details of her plan, she seemed most enthusiastic about her future ideas for helping her...

Our ex-president's heart warned him a few days after he mounted the pulpit in Riverside Church to preach to the long converted. Once upon a time it was known as a Christian congregation, but today it is a Congregation of Faith -- many faiths. Bill, wearing a dark suit, a white shirt and a most solemn expression, did not quote from Bishop Augustine, who lived in 400 A.D. and is said to have prayed. Clinton had other issues -- such as the "moral and democratic crises" of our times to talk about. Crises are not new to Riverside Church, a...

Did anyone else just catch Bill Klintoon on Letterman's show? Darn, I sure wish I had known he was going to be on the show ahead of time... I would've started this thread much earlier. This thread is a heads-up for FReepers in U.S. time zones other than Eastern - you still have time to catch it. I'm afraid I can't provide much of a report on what Slick Willie had to say since I only saw part of it (and I'm pretty sleepy). Basically what I heard from him was: (Under the Bush administration) "Crime and gang violence is...

Yup, Savage was right: he predicted last week that the media would go overboard covering a missing woman, and sure enough .. sadly, but sure enough .. here comes a missing woman in Utah and a suspicious husband. They are purposely avoiding discussing the acts of possible treason and theft of classified documents by the Bergler ..even Geraldo .. it's disgusting. ""When I was informed by the Archives that there were documents missing, I immediately returned everything I had except for a few documents that I apparently had accidentally discarded." Sandy Berger A very telling Washington Times editorial, posted on...

By Andy Shaw July 1, 2004 — Thousands of people lined up on the streets outside Barbara's Books to meet former President Bill Clinton-and buy his book. Clinton signed more than 1,000 copies before leaving for fundraisers. Congressman Danny Davis reminisced with Bill Clinton about their boyhoods in rural Arkansas at the former president's book signing in Chicago. "Hope was a big town. We lived in the suburbs," said U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, (D) Chicago. "I tell you, it's great. I think the response that people are continuing to have all over America just simply represents how much he has...

Funny, the things leftists say when they're in a leftist town surrounded by fellow travelers. Hillary Clinton, erstwhile first lady, current U.S. senator representing New York and probable future presidential candidate, cut loose in San Francisco Monday night at a fund-raiser for Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif. "Many of you are well enough off that ... the (Bush) tax cuts may have helped you," Mrs. Clinton said. "We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to have to cut that short and not give it to you." Should Democrats win the White House and gain control...

Hillary Blasts Bush on Fallujah Attacks New York Sen. Hillary Clinton blasted the Bush administration on Thursday for sending too few troops and not enough military equipment to Iraq, saying the of lack of U.S. resources contributed to the attacks in Fallujah that killed four U.S. workers on Tuesday. "It was heartbreaking and horrible to see the desecration of the four men who were killed in Fallujah," Clinton told Democratic Party radio host Al Franken. Calling Fallujah "one of the epicenters of Saddam Hussein's support," Sen. Clinton said, "Clearly we have to increase our response and make it more effective."...

WITH Senator John Kerry all but having won the right to challenge George Bush this November, two phrases will begin to be heard more often. They are "buyers’ remorse" and "the Kerry bubble". Indeed, they are already being heard, as some liberal commentators worry that their party may have just made a dreadful mistake. It has become fashionable to compare Howard Dean’s campaign to the dotcom revolution that promised the world, but left its investors out of pocket and, in many cases, ruined. Less noticed has been the replacement of Dean-mania by the Kerry bubble. Democrat primary voters have...
