Vietnamese authorities have buried thousands of seized cats – many believed to have been alive at the time – that were smuggled from China to feed the illegal cat meat trade. A truck carrying three tons of live cats crammed into bamboo crates was impounded in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, on Tuesday. On Wednesday a police officer said they had been buried in accordance with Vietnamese law on smuggled goods.

This is not intended as an advertisement or an endorsement of a product. A Harriet Carter catalog arrived today and this picture was on the front cover. I simply thought it captured a typical feline attitude, one of superiority and self-indulgent pleasure.

A little boy was out enjoying his bicycle in his family’s driveway on Tuesday when out of no where he was attacked by a loose dog. Luckily, a hero cat was on hand to save the day — yes, a cat. The incident occurred just before 5 p.m., in Bakersfield, California, according to KERO-TV. Different angles from the home’s surveillance camera show the boy and then the dog prowling around the corner. When the canine spotted the boy on the other side of an SUV, he trotted over and then lunged, violently pulling the boy from his toddler bike. Then, the...

PHOENIX -- A Valley man has some surprising visitors in his attic -- a family of bobcats. Fred Greenshaw does not go to his attic often, but he went up there to grab an ice cream maker for his daughter's birthday. Instead, he found himself looking straight into the eyes of a bobcat. "I heard that real low growl so I stopped what I was doing and I climbed back down," Greenshaw said. He says he also heard something coming from behind some boxes. "I could hear a baby crying," he said. [snip]

MARION, Ark. - When Bubba the cat disappeared inside the home he shares with Cheryl and Phillip Albers, they knocked holes in walls looking for him, but he couldn't be found. Bubba's meows could be heard through the night last Monday, Cheryl Albers said, after he vanished following a visit from an air-conditioner repairman. Bubba normally hides high atop a kitchen cabinet when there is a stranger in the house that he doesn't want to meet, Albers said. He wasn't there, however, after the repairman left. Taking their cue from where they thought the meowing was coming from, the Albers...

After a ton of paperwork, Londoners head back across Atlantic with Sparky: HARRISON, Michigan - A British couple traveled nearly 4,000 miles to adopt "Sparky," a black-and-white kitten in central Michigan. Rose and Chris Rasmussen discovered Sparky on Petfinder.com last year and decided to adopt him. The couple traveled from their suburban London home to the Clare County Animal Shelter in Harrison, where the kitten was an unofficial mascot. They could have had Sparky shipped, but instead decided to make the trip as an adventure, visiting Detroit and Chicgao before showing up to adopt their new pet. After paperwork, quarantine...

When Charlie, a 5-year-old black and white cat, went missing two years ago, Kristian Codero and her family never gave up hope of finding him again. “Every time we would see a black and white cat, we had to stop and see if it was Charlie,” Kristian said. Charlie has distinctive markings on the underside of his chin, but each time the Coderos looked under a cat’s chin, it turned out not to be Charlie. Not knowing what had happened to Charlie made the loss especially hard for 12-year-old Kallie Codero. “She’s cried ever since the day we lost him,”...

The caretakers of Ernest Hemingway's Key West home want a federal judge to intervene in their dispute with the U.S. Department of Agriculture over the six-toed cats that roam the property. More than 50 descendants of a multi-toed cat the novelist received as a gift in 1935 wander the grounds of the home, where Hemingway lived for more than 10 years. The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum disputes the USDA's claim that it is an "exhibitor" of cats and needs to have a USDA Animal Welfare License, according to a complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Miami. "What...

I was told this is a site with expertise on cats so I came here. My wife did not take our cat to be fixed like I told her to do and the cat got pregnant. She went over to under an old shed to have the kittens and nursed them there, too. Now the kittens are a couple of months old and are starting to move around some, but they are very afraid of humans even though they see the mother around us. They run under the shed when anybody comes near them. They are starting to get too...

I've never been able to understand people who have lots of pets. There are normal families with the basic dog and collection of barn cats, but what about people with multiple dogs or cats in the house, or canaries, or gerbils, or lizards? Why do people go to all that work of feeding, vaccinating, getting someone to look after them when they're gone and cleaning up the hair on the floors and furniture? Then I looked around and started counting and guess what? Two dogs, two house cats, a few retired laying hens and a pair of donkeys. We have...
