A sheriff's deputy in Louisiana is dead after being shot near a movie theater in Baton Rouge, police said Sunday. East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office deputy Shawn T. Anderson was rushed to the hospital after being shot while on duty late Saturday, spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said in a news release. Anderson, 43, was conducting an investigation with another deputy at a strip mall near the AMC movie theater when the shooting occurred.

MEXICO CITY –  Mexican authorities say an alleged regional leader of the Beltran Leyva drug cartel has been killed in a shootout with federal forces.  The Interior Department says via Twitter that Juan Francisco Patron Sanchez headed up the cartel's operations in the state of Nayarit and in the southern part of Jalisco state.  The Mexican navy reports late Thursday that seven "accomplices" were also killed.  The Interior Department said more details would be released Friday.    Â

Officials have confirmed that the second officer shot by a suspect in south Georgia has died. Georgia Southwestern (GSW) State University released a statement that was relayed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation around 5:40 p.m. Thursday. A U.S. service member was killed by an improvised explosive device in northern Syria on Thursday, the Pentagon announced in a statement. The service member was killed near Ayn Issa, a town roughly 35 miles northwest of the Islamic State’s self-proclaimed capital of Raqqa. A Wayne State University police officer died Wednesday, a day after he was shot in the head while on patrol near the Detroit campus. Officer Collin Rose, 29, died about 5:45 p.m. at a hospital, Detroit police Sgt. Michael Woody said. "This is a tragedy felt by all of us," Wayne State President M. Roy Wilson said in a statement. Oh no. It's not Barack Obama is getting police officers killed. He is doing it recklessly and irresponsibly. No, he is not the one pulling the trigger.
