This was so funny when he said this the night after the elections: “You know what pisses me off? I think I’ve made about $60 million playing baseball, and I want this frickin million dollars from this game; And it’s not even a million bucks. It’s 600-grand by the time Obama takes it,” said Kent. “I’m a game seven World Series loser. I’ve played in the biggest games in the world, and the worst games in the world, and this just sucks.”

The east side of the beach - often called Shellness -...

LONDON, July 21 (Reuters) - Olympic organisers are "very alive" to the threat of a cyber attack on the London 2012 Olympics, made more challenging because of its evolving nature, senior Interior Ministry officials said on Tuesday. Ticketing systems, the transport network and hotel bookings as well as security are among potential targets. Olympic security officials are also planning for the possible diversion of aircraft to protect airspace around the venues from terrorist attacks, the officials said. The greatest threat to security at the Games is international terrorism, the government's latest "Safety and Security Strategy" report said.

CLEVELAND - A tape recording of the 1970 shooting deaths of four Kent State University students by Ohio National Guardsmen reveals the sound of pistol shots 70 seconds earlier, a newspaper reported Friday citing the work of a forensic audio expert. The finding lends support to a theory that the guardsmen thought they were being shot at during a campus Vietnam War protest. Witnesses said at the time that an FBI informant monitoring the protest fired warning shots because he felt threatened.

Previously undisclosed FBI documents suggest that the Kent State antiwar protests were more meticulously planned than originally thought and that one or more gunshots may have been fired at embattled Ohio National Guardsmen before their killings of four students and woundings of at least nine others on that searing day in May 1970. As the nation marks the 40th anniversary of the Kent State antiwar protests Tuesday, a review of hundreds of previously unpublished investigative reports sheds a new — and very different — light on the tragic episode. The upheaval that enveloped the northeastern Ohio campus actually began three...

Democrats resist subpoenaing recordsJul 31, 2009 - 04:05:00 CDT By LARRY MARGASAK Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - House Democrats have declined to subpoena available records that might reveal whether other members of Congress got discounted VIP mortgages from subprime lender Countrywide Financial Corp. similar to the sweetheart deals given Democratic Sens. Chris Dodd and Kent Conrad. Republicans say they are willing to risk that the records now held by Bank of America may show that GOP lawmakers were also "friends of Angelo" who got preferential terms on personal mortgages at the behest of then-Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo. A Fifth Century Germanic settlement has been discovered on land set out for regeneration in Kent. A team of 30 archaeologists has been studying debris at the site in Rushenden, on the Isle of Sheppey, to learn how the original settlers lived. The remains of a large boat-shaped hall have been found as well as evidence of boat-building activity. Dr Paul Wilkinson, who heads the dig, said the settlement was one of the most important finds of its kind in Kent. "It's significant because it's a Germanic establishment. The boat shape gives the game away to us," he said. "The...

In a split decision Thursday, the state Supreme Court rejected a plea by a Kent property owner seeking compensation for damage done during a drug raid. Affirming lower court decisions, five of the court's nine justices found the city of Kent was not required to pay $5,000 for damage to buildings owned by Leo Brutsche during a failed 2004 anti-methamphetamine operation. During the raid, narcotics officers used battering rams to knock down doors in buildings owned by Brutsche while searching for a meth lab they believed Brutsche's son to be operating on the property, according to court records. No drugs...

A first-hand account from any freepers in this area would be appreciated. This source is telling me the weather isn't particularly unusual, but the freight company I am using to move a very urgent shipment out of a portside warehouse today is telling me travel conditions are at a near standstill. Am I being jerked around or is he telling me the truth? FWIW, I grew up in North Dakota where traffic stopped only for a major, major reason such as all roads had 3 feet of snow covering them and snowplows couldn't get out.
