As an Anti-Defamation League (ADL) poll revealed earlier this month demonstrated, anti-Semitism is a worldwide phenomenon. And while a focus on anti-Semitism has cropped up in Europe and in the Middle East, at least one group of Jews in Guatemala were brave enough to speak of their own plight in the Central American press. Over thirty Jews are being expelled from San Juan La Laguna, a small Guatemalan town—all at the express request of the locals. …

ODESSA, Ukraine - In early April, swastikas and "Death to the Jews" were painted on walls surrounding the Jewish cemetery in this legendary city on the Black Sea. The graffiti was signed "Right Sector," the name of an ultranationalist movement that took part in the February revolt that ousted the pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych. The Kremlin claims that Ukraine's rebels - who want the country to turn toward Europe rather than Russia - are riddled with anti-Semites and neofascists. The desecration in Odessa seems to fit those charges. But what I heard from Avram Wolff, Odessa's chief rabbi - and...

Two Jewish men were attacked outside Paris Saturday night, French Interior Minister Bernard Caseneuve announced Sunday, as they were leaving a Creteil synagogue. Caseneuve ordered police around France to increase security at Jewish houses of worship and other Jewish establishments, the Ministry stated. He condemned the attacked with "utmost severity." Very few details are available on the attack. Sources told Israeli small-time news site 0404 Sunday morning that three French Jews were attacked - not two - and identified them as the synagogue's treasurer and his two sons. All three have been hospitalized, according to the report. The men were...

The power of whiteness: RT @hope_and_chains: My family survived a concentration camp, came to the US w/ nothing, LEGALLY, and made it work.— Touré (@Toure) May 23, 2014 That's right. MSNBC host Touré is not impressed with surviving the holocaust and rebuilding a life for oneself. Big Deal! That's just the power of being white, baby! Cattle cars? Psh. Touré rides the subway sometimes. In New York City. Genocide? Ho hum. Touré has to walk to his high paying TV job UPHILL BOTH WAYS. "Come at me, Jews." Predictably, Twitter did not take kindly to this tweet. One of...

The Anti-Defamation League created a stir last week by releasing the results of a global survey of antisemitism, the most comprehensive ever. These results are considered shocking by many. Actually, for those who bother to keep up with reality, they contain no surprises. The Middle East and North Africa come out worst, with 74 percent among population groups qualifying as antisemitic according to the poll’s 11-question index. The most antisemitic political entities in the world? The West Bank and Gaza, coming in at 93 percent. (Yes, those same Palestinians with whom Israel is always under pressure to “make peace.”) The next worst...

Winston Churchill called Jews, “..the most formidable and the most remarkable race which has ever appeared in the world.” We are remarkable all right. When you have a smart Jew he predominates with his intellectual prowess over the rest of the human race, but when you have a dumb Jew, he is an insult to human intelligence. As a Jew, I was perplexed which of those remarkable Jewish-Americans voted for Obama in 2008; to me, it was completely obvious that the alternative choices for president in 2008 were clear and unambiguous. On the Republican side was a war hero, a...

A Twitter photo showing beer cups laid out beer pong style in the shape of a nazi swastika and a Jewish Star of David has recently garnered traction online and caused Jewish leaders to express concern. One user captioned the photo with a quote from Cape Coral High School students saying, “This is what we play at parties. Jews vs. Nazis.”

The number of Jews leaving France for Israel is up 400% in the first quarter of 2014, according to AFP. The largest remnant of Jews in Europe surviving the Holocaust is now under a new threat, one that echoes the last century’s, but with new faces and names. The Jewish Agency for Israel, a global body responsible for the immigration and absorption of Jews into Israel, said 1,407 people left France for Israel between January and March against 353 people a year earlier. "This phenomenon is speeding up" said Ariel Kandel, the head of the Jewish Agency's French chapter. (snip)...

JERUSALEM, Israel -- The disintegrating situation in Ukraine has led to an increase in anti-Semitic attacks against Jews living in the country. Many Jews are talking about escaping to Israel. Nineteen Ukrainian Jews arrived in Israel this week after escaping the violence engulfing their country. Others still wait and worry about relatives left behind. Ilena Hila Feingold, who has lived in Israel for many years, works for The Jewish Agency. "I'm from Donetsk. I arrived to Israel in 1991 with my family but still now I have in Donetsk my aunt," Feingold told CBN News. "She's 86 and I'm very...

Over the past couple of decades the Chinese have become more interested in the Jews. Of late the Chinese regime has been bringing Jewish scholars and theologians to the People’s Republic to discuss Torah, Talmud, Mishnah and even some of the more mystical tracts. Why?It’s no surprise that China-Israel trade is increasing, nor that the China-Israel relationship has grown and deepened. Israel may well be the most dynamic country in the world, bursting at the seams with high-tech startups, dazzling inventions–especially in military and medical technologies–and highly educated and talented people. But I’m not talking about Israel here. This is about...

US Secretary of State John Kerry apologized this week for using the term ‘Apartheid’ in describing Israel’s status following the collapse of peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. Nonetheless, it appears that the Obama administration is convinced that Israel is by large responsible for the impasse in the peace process and therefore slated to pay the price for it in the near future. “The Jewish people are supposed to be smart. You’re supposed to know how to read the map: In the 21st century, the world will not keep tolerating the Israeli occupation,” a US official told Yediot Ahronot....

The Zulus call it eGoli – Place of Gold – for in 1886, the coveted metal was found in abundance on the Witwatersrand, the inland ridge on which Johannesburg lies. The promise of instant fortunes catalysed the largest, most rapid urban migration in southern African history. Earth’s bounty crowned rand lords, and also birthed a vast apparatus of economic exploitation. Yet for most Jews, the story of their predecessors began not in gold speculation, but pogroms in Eastern Europe. Thousands fled in ships bound for Africa’s tip, and many came to call the City of Gold home. Welcome to Jewburg...

A pro-Palestinian NYU group targeted Jewish classmates with threatening “eviction” notices that were slid under dorm-room doors in the dead of night, students said Thursday. “If you do not vacate the premise by midnight on 25 April, 2014 we reserve the right to destroy all remaining belongings. We cannot be held responsible for property or persons remaining inside the premises,” read the notices, which were delivered by members of the Students for Justice in Palestine. "The activist student group targeted Palladium Hall on East 14th Street because it is widely believed to house the most Jewish residents — and even...

Last week in Ukraine, leaflets were being disseminated saying Jews were required to register with the government or face being thrown out of the country and their possessions seized. More and more, they have been debunked as a hoax. Jews in America, and worldwide, should nonetheless take this seriously, and recognize that - when the time comes - if they don't fight back, they will die. US Ambassador to Ukraine, Geoff Pyatt, confirmed that the leaflets were real, according to Jake Tapper of CNN: ID and passport are required to register your Jewish religion, religious documents of family members, as...

ALL Jewish people should leave Ukraine at once, a Holocaust survivor warned last night, after “grotesque” anti-Semitic leaflets were handed out in the country. The pamphlets and posters, distributed in the eastern Ukraine city of Donetsk, demanded that the Jewish population register, pay a new tax or leave. They are a terrifying echo of the anti-Jewish atrocities carried out by Ukrainians under Nazi occupation during the Second World War. The leaflets, apparently signed by pro-Russian group the People’s Republic of Donetsk, have enraged the world. US Secretary of State John Kerry said last week: “After all of the miles travelled...

This is what we have come to. “US Synagogue network urges Jews not to walk home alone,” By Sam Sokol, Jerusalem Post, April 19, 2014 (thanks to Jack) Following anti-Semitic shooting in Kansas, US Jewish community on high alert; Police increase presence at Jewish sites in New York and Washington. The National Council of Young Israel has urged synagogue goers not to walk home alone during the final days of the Passover holiday.
