Calling on his party to embrace diversity, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush declared Thursday that Republicans will never win the presidency if they don't campaign in "every nook and cranny" of the country - especially in Hispanic and African-American communities. "I'm running to draw people toward our cause rather than push them away," Bush said during a town hall-style meeting in New Hampshire. "Our message has to be uplifting, positive, hopeful, rather than negative (and) divisive." Speaking to a predominantly white audience in northern New Hampshire, Bush said Republicans must campaign in Latino communities. He delivered a brief line in...

Jeb Bush went to New Jersey on Thursday and raised more than $500,000 at two events, a huge haul in the home state of one of his rivals, Gov. Chris Christie. The figure was provided by an aide to Mr. Bush, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal numbers.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush says Republicans won’t win the White House if candidates don’t campaign in “every nook and cranny” of the country, especially in Latino and African-American communities. The Republican presidential contender made his comments Thursday during a town hall meeting in New Hampshire. They come as businessman Donald Trump’s hardline rhetoric on immigration continues to dominate the GOP primary race. …

One idea that came up was to urge three leading candidates — Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor; Mr. Walker; and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida — to band together and state that they would not participate in any debate in which Mr. Trump was present, using his refusal to rule out a third-party bid as a pretext for taking such a hard line. The thinking, according to a Republican involved in the conversations, was that the lesser-funded prospects who have been eclipsed by Mr. Trump would follow suit, and the TV networks airing the debates would be forced to...

In a snapshot? Jeb Bush and John McCain have just illustrated exactly why Donald Trump is surging in the polls. The other day, Governor Bush came out four square for lobbyist reform. As reported in the Hill: Bush called for three reforms: 1) broadening the official definition of lobbyist to include ambiguous work such as "government relations"; 2) increasing lobbying disclosure from quarterly to weekly; and 3) extending the lobbying "cooling off" period to six years for former members of Congress. He also pledged to limit lobbying of his White House by former administration officials. But back in January? Here’s...

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) will honor former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with this year’s Liberty Medal from the National Constitution Center. The award will be presented to Clinton on September 10th, the eve of the first anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States mission in Benghazi that killed four Americans. The Christian Science Monitor reports that Bush, a potential GOP contender in the 2016 presidential race, is chairman of the board of trustees of the National Constitution Center located in Philadelphia. “Former Secretary Clinton has dedicated her life to serving and engaging people across the...

For those of us who predicted the inevitable, watching Donald Trump verbally wander into a field of face-whacking garden rakes like Sideshow Bob fills one with a mixture of schadenfreude and affirmation. We knew it was coming, but it still feels good to be proven right. Of course Trump wouldn't hesitate to attack John McCain's war-hero status. Trump's bottomless insecurity cannot countenance the idea that his critics have any legitimacy. Of course Trump won't apologize -- because his dog-and-pony show is predicated on the idea that he "tells it like it is" and "fights." He's the omniscient master of "The...

A U.S. Senate hearing Tuesday highlighted growing frustration by lawmakers of both parties with some local governments’ refusal to fully cooperate with federal immigration authorities, as senators heard from the widow of a Sacramento County sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver, who prosecutors say was murdered by an undocumented immigrant.

“The hardest part for me was to watch some of the Congress members falling asleep and some of them were doing whatever they did on their phones,” she said. “There were a few that paid attention, because people were pouring their hearts out, and our lives have been shattered. They sit there and participate in it and don’t even have enough decency to just sit there and look at us.”

Imagine if you will you were crafting the perfect presidential candidate. It's likely the following would not be on your list: two-time divorcee with multiple bankruptcies; bombastic reality television star who has appeared on professional wrestling shows; loud-mouth uncensored ego maniac with questionable hair. In other words, Donald Trump. But among the 2016 GOP presidential nominees, it's Trump that's taking the headlines. It's Trump who has people talking. And, most tellingly, it's Trump who is surging in the polls, with the latest numbers showing him with almost twice the support of his closest rival. Why? There a several reasons. First,...

In a poll conducted from July 17th to July 20th, support for GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump hasn’t taken a hit despite Trump’s comments about Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Saturday, July 18th, while attending the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa. A recent Morning Consult poll reveals Trump leads all of the GOP contenders, with 22 percent of the vote. This places Trump seven percentage points ahead of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who held 15 percent of the vote. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker came in third place with 12 percent of the vote. According to the poll, Dr. Ben...

We have seen this before. In 1980, the American people elected a president with a reputation for resolve and on day one of Ronald Reagan's presidency, literally as he took the oath of office, the Iranians released the hostages that they had been holding prisoner for 444 days. The time to show leadership on Iran is now, not after one gets settled into the position. A ruckus has erupted between Republican presidential candidates over Iran. In a speech announcing his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination on July 13, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker declared that he would “terminate the bad...

The media, Democrats, and weak-kneed Republicans who defend and dismiss our porous Southern border, have plenty of blood on their hands — and not just the everyday Americans victimized by people who simply shouldn’t be here. Due to our unwillingness to secure the border and protect our own citizens, this country lost two major American artists in the last decade, Bob Clark and Adrienne Shelly. Bob Clark was just 67 when Hector Velazquez-Nava’s SUV crossed the center line on the morning of April 4, 2007, in Los Angeles California. Velazquez-Nava was not insured, did not have a driver’s license, but...

A triumphant and unrepentant Donald Trump launched a barrage of personal attacks and name-calling on his campaign rivals Tuesday, most notably calling South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham an “idiot” handing out Graham’s cell phone number to the whole world He dismissed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush as “weak on immigration,” and mocked Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s glasses and Hillary Clinton’s hand wave. “What a stiff, what a stiff, Lindsey Graham. By the way he has registered zero in the polls,” Trump said, at an appearance in Bluffton, S.C. “A total lightweight. In the private sector, he couldn’t get a job.”...

Yahoo Finance is closely following the money pouring into the 2016 campaign, and we analyzed newly released data to see which companies are aligned with which candidates. (Our full methodology is at the end of this story.) Not surprisingly, Bush and Clinton are pulling down millions from deep corporate connections. But we found a few unexpected things as well. While it’s no secret that Jeb Bush is Wall Street's preferred candidate, for instance, Hillary Clinton more than makes up for that with thousands of donations from attorneys at powerful law firms. Many analysts consider ultraconservative Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas...

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush says his opponents for the presidency shouldn’t be missing votes in the Senate or they should “resign, you know.” “No, I’m really kind of saying the system itself is the problem,” Bush told radio host Michael Medved when asked if his speech Monday on changing Washington was aimed at his presidential rivals who are currently in the Senate. Bush, speaking in Florida on Monday, gave a broad speech how he would bring changes to what he termed “Mount Washington” if elected. Bush said he would push for a balanced budget, an “unequivocal six-year ban on...

Suddenly, the gloves are off between Scott Walker and Jeb Bush. Surprisingly, Bush threw the first punch, sparking a back-and-forth between the two leading Republican candidates in early-state polls, both eager to highlight what they see as the other’s fatal flaw — Bush as the establishment shill and Walker as the foreign policy lightweight. It started during a town hall in Nevada Friday, when Bush took an unprovoked shot at Walker, portraying him as unserious and unsophisticated over a promise he made in his announcement speech last Monday to repeal the nuclear deal with Iran “on the very first day...
