In a poll conducted from July 17th to July 20th, support for GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump hasnt taken a hit despite Trumps comments about Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Saturday, July 18th, while attending the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa.
A recent Morning Consult poll reveals Trump leads all of the GOP contenders, with 22 percent of the vote. This places Trump seven percentage points ahead of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who held 15 percent of the vote. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker came in third place with 12 percent of the vote.
According to the poll, Dr. Ben Carson got eight percent, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee came in with seven percent, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) held six percent, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) held five percent, and both Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) were tied with 4 percent...

Why is Cruz polling so low?
Are the brows of those much smarter than ourselves furrowed in deep confusion?
Look here at this site. Many of the same people who would normally support Cruz have jumped on the Trump bandwagon because of the media coverage, the plain spoken-ness and the enemies he is making.
I have to admit that I’m enamored by Trump - he has his big boy britches on. No one can deny he is a leader, even if he brags too much. LOL It doesn’t bother me for some reason - and maybe it isn’t bragging as it is self-confident. I like Cruz very much, but, for some reason, I think he needs a little more seasoning before taking over the helm of this country. So, I guess I would have to agree that as a VP, he could very well rise to the Oval Office. Trump is used to being at the helm - sitting in the big chair, so to speak. And, with the mood of this country right now - most are sick of politicians. It is what it is. Most of them are all hat and no cattle.
VP or AG or justice of SC would use his talents well
I like what Trump's doing but continue my monthly donations to Cruz. Many here are either jumping whole-hog for Trump or hating him and equating Cruz's amity with him as some sort of flaw: just goes to show that being on FR doesn't mean one has a working brain - I notice that many of them are really shy or just don't donate to FR and probably don't donate to any candidate either - lightens up the value of their opinions.
I actually did think on Saturday that Trump had stepped in it (as much as I hate McCain). By Sunday it was becoming clear that the only people calling for him to quit were those either losing big-time to him, or those that hated him before McCain.
Bottom line - no effect. I LOVE IT!
I agree with others, Cruz is not in any big hurry. If Trump is clearing the field, let him. Cruz is young, he has plenty of options, and plenty of time.
Here's a funny, lighthearted graphic I made up..politics goes down better with a sense of humor :-)
Here on FR we know a lot about Cruz, and we talk about him a lot.
Ask your average Republican how much he knows about Ted Cruz, and you might get "Ted who?". How much news coverage on the regular channels does Cruz get? It's early in the game, and a lot depends on name recognition.
A person in his polling position cannot IN THE LEAST appear murky. He should have stolen Trump's thunder on illegals, common core, and above all abortion. But whose abortion comments got picked up? Fiorina.
I am thinking he is one more campaign away from the bright lights.
Very good points.
I honestly do not see why Trump could not perform effectively
In the executive role as our president. He would right so many things. It would likely be a bit of a circus, but the country is in a ditch, and we need a tow truck to get us out.
Donald is the tow truck.
I think it has to do with name recognition. He needs to get more splashy.
White Privilege . . Diversity . . Political Correctness . . all the key words that have brain-washed The Silent White Majority into the shadows. Donald gives me hope that our wonderful White American men can regain some of what they’ve lost in the last 7 years. Cruz does not give me that hope; however, he would make a great VP to Trump.
For now, Trump has his voters.
Which is why Cruz is being so nice to him.
"Low-information" voters aren't as low information as you think. His support for even more H1B Visas hurt. Add to that, he tried "dealing with the devil" and got badly burned on that trade deal. Add to that, he (like most of the others, granted) follows McCain's lead on foreign warmongering.
I like Cruz. He's young, he's smart, he's accomplished. He could benefit from a term of being mentored by someone who is better in tune with the issues that are primary to fed-up US citizens and articulating them fearlessly and not making bad deals.
