  • IRS Agrees To Monitor Church Sermons

    07/25/2014 6:23:09 AM PDT · by LeoMcNeil · 49 replies
The IRS recently settled a case against it brought by the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF). As part of the settlement, the IRS has agreed to monitor church sermons for political content. The suit was filed because FFRF apparently did not like an event called Pulpit Freedom Sunday. Apparently once a year a number of pastors preach on political topics, presumably to rebel against the never enforced Federal prohibition on 501(c)(3) political activities. Technically it is illegal for tax exempt non-profits to engage in political activities, presumably this includes commenting on politics from the pulpit. To date there isn’t a...

If ever a federal agency has made ineptitude into an art form, it has to be the IRS. After months of stonewalling and grandstanding and Fifth Amendment privilege-pleading before congressional committees, Lois Lerner and the IRS are now the subject of a federal lawsuit. In response to charges that they unfairly impeded the tax-exempt application of the organization "True the Vote," for political reasons, the IRS is invoking "the dog ate my homework" defense In sworn affidavits filed in court by top IRS muckety-mucks, the IRS maintains that Lois Lerner's computer was sent out to be fixed by a private...

In a sensational press release issued Tuesday afternoon, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) claimed that he had evidence that the Internal Revenue Service destroyed a computer belonging to a key figure in the IRS targeting scandal despite being told by experts that its data was recoverable. Camp also insinuated that the original damage to the computer was done intentionally.

Ex-IRS official Lois Lerner’s computer hard drive was “scratched” and the data on it was still recoverable. But the IRS did not try to recover the data from Lerner’s hard drive, despite recommendations from in-house IRS IT experts to outsource the recovery project. The hard drive was then “shredded,” according to a court filing the IRS made to House Ways and Means Committee investigators.

In its latest liberal rant coming to the aid of the IRS – that poor defenseless government leviathan – it repeats the same tired leftist talking points about the root of all the IRS’s problems being that it doesn’t have enough money. Yet in doing so, it may have just stumbled across a new motive behind the targeting, good old-fashioned revenge. There is a scandal going on at the Internal Revenue Service, but it has nothing to do with Lois Lerner or her missing emails. No, the real scandal is what Republicans did to cripple the agency when virtually no one was looking. Since the broad Tea Party-driven spending cuts of 2010, the agency’s budget has been cut by 14 percent after inflation is considered, leading to sharply reduced staff, less enforcement of the tax laws and poor taxpayer service. The budget cutters are also trying to prevent the agency from performing its new job of collecting higher taxes on the...

Last week, while seeking to reassure Americans he has seen no evidence of a crime, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen acknowledged he had not even bothered to review any of the applicable laws. By the time Lois Lerner suggested auditing Sen. Chuck Grassley in a Dec. 4, 2012, email, the Iowa Republican had spent five years scrutinizing Lerner's IRS division. Grassley, during his tenure as top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, zeroed in on abuses by charities and other nonprofit groups improperly claiming tax-exempt status under Lerner, and he spearheaded a 2006 change in federal law making it harder for organizations to improperly claim the credit. Grassley and Lerner were no strangers to each other, and it’s one of the reasons Republicans fear Lerner’s push to audit Grassley might have been politically...

On his Monday radio show, conservative talk show Mark Levin reacted to how congressional Democrats in a House Oversight Hearing had conducted themselves earlier over the committee’s inquiry into missing emails related to an investigation of former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner. Levin said it was clear to him the response from congressional Democrats was orchestrated in advance in tandem with the highest level of the Obama White House to obstruct the inquiry into the Internal Revenue Service missing emails congressional hearing. “So let me be very blunt about it – the Democratic Party now is conducting itself as...

Vinnie Troia, the CEO of Night Lion Security and a computer hacking forensic investigator stated that even though the IRS cancelled its contract with e-mail backup service, the agency’s e-mails are still stored off-site and should be retrievable. Troia pointed out that “even according to the 2012 and 2013 audits which were performed on the IRS systems, they were shown to have back-ups that were fully functional, back-ups that were offsite and tested to be properly off-site,” adding “those back-ups do exist somewhere. It is just a matter of finding them and going after them.” He also reported that the...

Yesterday on FOX News Sunday Chris Wallace invited Washington superlawyer Cleta Mitchell and reptilian Democratic hack Julian Epstein to discuss the IRS scandals in the context of the “lost” IRS emails. More than one scandal inheres in the events, including Obama’s declaration of innocence regarding those involved; I therefore refer to the IRS scandals. The video of the FOX News Sunday segment is below and is worth a look if you haven’t seen it. At 2:30 in the segment Wallace displays a Missing Emails Timeline depicting a point made by Kim Strassel in her Wall Street Journal column of this...

As for Obama’s foreign policy plan it really is quite simple…by shaming America in the world’s eye he hopes our collapse will surely follow. But least we forget that Barack HUSSEIN Obama’s driving force and allegiance was clear right from the start…never hidden from view but one people chose to ignore…from the his book “The Audacity of Hope” page 261…“I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” Sadly, those words say it all…and sadly he has done just that.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) told America’s Newsroom Monday that IRS Chief John Koskinen was not honest with Congress about the lost Lois Lerner emails. Issa also said Lois Lerner was acting on President Obama’s behalf when she targeted conservative groups. “You came before us. You said you’d tell the whole truth but the truth under oath. Do you believe you told the whole truth? And, of course, the answer would be he did not tell the whole truth… I believe Lois Lerner is hiding something. I believe the Justice Department, the IRS and the...

BILL HENCK: INSIDE THE IRS, PART 4 William Henck has worked inside the IRS Office of the Chief Counsel as an attorney for over 26 years. We posted his personal account, including his testimony to a retaliatory audit conducted by the IRS against him, this past February in “Inside the IRS.” We followed up with part 2 in May and part 3 earlier this month. When we posted the second of Bill’s two items in May, I called and wrote IRS public affairs to ask for any comment the agency might have. None was forthcoming; the agency declined to respond....

Only one problem: the Office of Management and Budget issued a memo August 24, 2012 reminding federal employees that President Obama signed a directive on November 18, 2011 that offered specific guidelines as to the handling of records (see memo page 3 below).

My parents didn’t spend much time warning us kids about vandalism, petty theft or mail fraud, but much was made of the attention and focus we would need as adults when it came to our finances, because the Internal Revenue Service could pounce at any time. “If you ever get audited” were chilling words that frightened me, as I was certain I could never, ever produce the requisite documentation to defend myself and would be mortally ashamed when I had to suffer the legal consequences. My mother, who ran her own business, lamented the time it took her to copy...
