PARIS (Reuters) - French former film star Brigitte Bardot went on trial on Tuesday for insulting Muslims, the fifth time she has faced the charge of "inciting racial hatred" over her controversial remarks about Islam and its followers. Prosecutors asked that the Paris court hand the 73-year-old former sex symbol a two-month suspended prison sentence and fine her 15,000 euros ($23,760) for saying the Muslim community was "destroying our country and imposing its acts." Since retiring from the film industry in the 1970s, Bardot has become a prominent animal rights activist but she has also courted controversy by denouncing Muslim...

Islamic Fascists suggest that non-Malays be tattooed like Jews in Nazi Germany Posted by Raja Petra Thursday, 31 January 2008 by FFT Some disturbing content has recently been discovered in a video posting by two Malaysian Muslim bloggers, Mahaguru58 and MENJ. These two individuals are also behind the outfit known as the Muslim Bloggers Alliance (readers should recall this outfit as the one that threw a hissy fit at one of RPK's recent installments of the "No Holds Barred" column, threatening to consult PEMBELA on the issue). While discussing the recent controversy over the issue of corpse snatching by Islamic...

Mannequins removed from Peshawar shops after threats Islamabad (PTI): Garment shop owners in northwest Pakistani city of Peshawar are removing mannequins from their displays or covering them up with clothes following threats from militants. A meeting of the shopkeepers' association of Karimpura in Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province (NWFP), on Wednesday discussed the threatening letters from militants. The association decided to either remove the mannequins from shops or cover them up fully with clothes. The meeting was informed that 10 militants visited Shaheen Bazaar, a market for women, and asked shopkeepers to remove mannequins. The militants claimed...

Forcing Maids to Wear Veil Najah Alosaimi, Arab News RIYADH, 3 June 2007 — The scene of a veiled maid walking with a Saudi family in public is a familiar one. It is also a normal scene when we consider how the veil and religion are closely associated with most Saudis. Veils constitute an important component of dress for many women in the Kingdom, where it is considered a sign of feminine modesty. Interestingly, non-Muslim maids that work for conservative Muslim families are also obliged by their sponsors to wear veils in public. However, these women are not required to...

Florida Man Sues to Halt Mosque Construction, Claims Terrorism Ties Wednesday, May 02, 2007 A man fighting the opening of a mosque in his suburban neighborhood filed a lawsuit Tuesday to try and halt construction, a move derided by Arab leaders as anti-Muslim. Rodney Wright, who is Christian, claims the relocation of the Islamic Center of South Florida to a new, larger building in his Pompano Beach neighborhood "presents a substantial harm to the well-being, safety and health" of the community. The lawsuit claims the leader of the mosque, Imam Hassan Sabri, has repeatedly been associated with others who are...

Skip to next paragraph INFIDEL By Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Illustrated. 353 pp. Free Press. $26. In the fall of 2002, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, then a junior researcher for the social democratic party in the Netherlands, was invited to stand for election by the rival conservative party. She thought about it, and decided that if she were to enter politics, she would embark on a “holy mission” to have the statistics of female victims of so-called honor killings around the world officially registered. Honor killings are common in (but not unique to) Muslim societies, where the shame of adultery, or...

Santanche reportedly received a letter in Arabic and English at her lower house office Tuesday night with pictures of Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh, murdered in 2004 by an Islamist fundamentalist for his movie Submission, which denounced violence on women in Muslim countries, and Dutch MP Hirsi Ali, the film's author, who has also received death threats....

CRAWFORD, Texas -- President Bush on Friday sent holiday greetings to all Muslims in America, Iraq and across the world as they celebrate the Eid al-Adha religious festival. What have you learned since the Sept. 11 attacks five years ago? The mass murder of 2,996 innocent people on American soil forced open my eyes to the Islamic holy war against the West, freedom and modernity. The battle has raged not for years or decades, but for centuries — well before the Crusades began. The indelible sight of workers plunging from the Twin Towers — head first, feet first, solo, hand-in-hand — roused me from slumber. The photos of children incinerated on United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 77 compelled me to start paying attention to the...

Top 10 Reasons Islam Might Not Be a Religion of Peace Written by Don Feder Thursday, August 31, 2006 A passenger revolt occurred on a Malaga-Manchester flight. Vacationing Brits refused to fly with two Arabic-speaking men. This came in the wake of arrests of 21 British-born Muslims who were plotting to blow up as many as 11 trans-Atlantic flights. A spokesman for Britain’s opposition Tory party said the passengers panicked into “behaving irrationally.” Fancy that, not wanting to fly with members of a faith whose adherents keep trying to blow things up. Oh, how irrational! Within days of this incident, a Lebanese student...

Somali Muslims join radicals to fight common enemy, the US June 13, 2006 By Abdifatah Ismail The fall of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, to Islamists comes at a time when anti-terror surveillance on the Horn of Africa is at its height. At present, several western countries including the US, Germany and France have military bases in Djibouti, the northern neighbour of Somalia. From the bases these governments patrol the Red Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean in a bid to protect Western interests in the region from not only the marauding Somali pirates, but also possible al-Qaeda assaults....

The Iranian Majlis or Parliament has reportedly passed (now disputed) a law requiring that, “Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth.” An outraged Rabbi Marvin Hier of the Simon Weisenthal Institute immediately responded to the provisions for Jews: “This is reminiscent of the Holocaust…Iran is moving closer and closer to the ideology of the Nazis.” Such a comparison sprang to the minds of many. But Rabbi Hier’s statement and this general view ignore the immediate context—most...

Brussels, 14 April (AKI) - The European Council - the European Union's decision-making body - is currently preparing a new public communication guidelines aimed at removing 'derogatory' terminology on Islam, such as "Islamic terror" and "fundamentalists" to make it clear that extremists are hijacking the religion. The lexicon of terms is aimed at politicians, officials and diplomats, but given freedom of speech concerns, its use will not be be legally binding. It is expected to be adopted in June. The lexicon will reconsider terms like "Islamists" and also "Jihad" - which is often used by groups like al-Qaeda to mean...

Gotta love that old-time religion. Some 300 Muslim scholars and clerics met in Bahrain yesterday to map out a plan to educate us infidels about the Prophet — and a prominent sheik at the conference called for the UN to "issue strong rules that would criminalize the defamation of religion." While this sanctimonious gabfest was going on, 40-year-old Abdul Rahman was sitting in an Afghanistan jail cell facing possible execution for the capital offence of converting to Christianity. If the irony was lost on the Holy 300, it's no wonder. Muslim clerics can wring their hands to pieces about how...

Austria: Muslim Soldiers Refuse to Salute Flag From the desk of Paul Belien on Tue, 2006-03-21 13:18 Last week three Muslim conscripts of the Austrian army refused to salute the Austrian flag because this was incompatible with their faith. The soldiers were not disciplined. However, an imam was summoned to issue a fatwa stating that Muslims are allowed to salute the...

"We were very cognizant of the fact that there are a lot of people being killed over in Iraq every day, and not...

This is how we treat the infidels in Saudi Arabia: We abuse the non-Muslims living and working in Saudi Arabia all the time, especially the Christians and the Jews. We call them grandsons of pigs and monkeys. We say this openly, everywhere, particularly in mosques. We do not respect any religions except Islam. This is the Saudi official policy: all religions other than Islam are false. Only Islam is the true religion. To accomplish this extremely bigoted notion, the Saudi state policy is to convert to Islam as many infidels as possible. So, proselytising for Islam is a major activity...

The global cartoon rage, which continues to increase its death count every day -- a priest in Turkey, an Indian sailor in the U.A.E., a Danish lawyer in Moscow, plus protestors in Afghanistan and elsewhere -- points out a key problem for the world's Muslims. On the one hand, for them, Muhammad is even more important than Allah. Cartoon rage demonstrates that definitively. Muhammad is the center of the religion. His sayings, his acts, his silences, his everything, are essential to fleshing out the 80% of the Qur'an that is comprehensible. (The remaining 20% is susceptible of being understood, it...

Embassies set ablaze, goods boycotted, citizens warned not to travel to certain volatile regions for fear of their safety, this time the target is Europe, where more than a dozen newspapers have reprinted controversial cartoons of the Muslim prophet, Muhammad. Middle East and North Africa specialist at the International Study and Research Center in Paris, Luis Martinez, says it is a troubling sign for Europe. He says, until now, Europe has been able to convince Arab societies in particular to forget certain historical facts, such as the Christian Crusades and European colonization of their countries. I'm getting a little tired (okay, I actually got tired a long time ago) of people making such a huge deal over the US death toll reaching the 2,000 mark. All around, we're hearing, "It's not worth the cost! It's not worth the cost!" Well, frankly, I think freedom IS worth the cost. And I think it demeans the sacrifices of our troops to suggest otherwise. To that end, I think it would be neat to start a campaign showing some of the benefits to the war in Iraq. I'm including a "starter" image to get things rolling...

Thank you, Michael Isikoff. Because of Newsweek's commode Quran story -- the one that went down the drain in a retraction -- a previously undisclosed threat to our very existence has been revealed. It may be too late to avert, but before admitting defeat, I just wish every American would take a good long moment to reflect, not on the hysterical headlines trumpeting "Quran abuse," but rather on the U.S. Army's Quranic Code of Conduct in place at Guantanamo Bay. The orders aren't called that, of course, but that's as apt a title as any for the relevant sections of...

The chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, General Richard Myers, rebutted the notion of inappropriate treatment...

In his just-released, absorbing, and excellent book, "Understanding Jihad", David Cook of Rice University dismisses the low-grade debate that has raged since 9/11 over the nature of jihad — whether it is a form of offensive warfare or (more pleasantly) a type of moral self-improvement. Cook dismisses as "bathetic and laughable" John Esposito's contention that jihad refers to "the effort to lead a good life." Throughout history and at present, Cook definitively establishes, the term primarily means "warfare with spiritual significance."

Does the Bush administration really believe, as its leadership has kept repeating since right after 9/11, that Islam is a "religion of peace" not connected to the problem of terrorism? Plenty of indications suggested that it knew better, but year after year the official line remained the same. From the outside, it seemed that officialdom was engaged in active self-delusion. In fact, things were better than they seemed, as David E. Kaplan establishes in an important investigation in U.S. News & World Report, based on over 100 interviews and the review of a dozen internal documents. Earlier arguments over the...

What steps should Western border agencies take to defend their homelands from harm by Islamists? In the case of non-citizens, the answer is simple: Don't let Islamists in. Exclude not just potential terrorists but also anyone who supports the totalitarian goals of radical Islam. Just as civilized countries did not welcome fascists in the early 1940s (or communists a decade later), they need not welcome Islamists today. But what about one's own citizens who cross the border? They could be leaving to fight for the Taliban or returning from a course on terrorism techniques. Or perhaps they studied with enemies...
