The chief safety officer of the hazardous-materials company that cleaned the apartment of New York City’s first Ebola patient was, in a past career as a mortgage negotiator, accused of fraud in 2009 by the attorney general at the time, Andrew M. Cuomo. In recent days, the safety officer, Sal Pane, has been the public face of the company, Bio-Recovery Corporation, which cleaned both the apartment of the patient, Dr. Craig Spencer, as well as a bowling alley that he had visited the night before he was taken to the hospital. .........Mr. Pane said he changed the spelling of his...

Roberta Rampton, Reuters October 29, 2014 It's not often that a White House official gets mocked on both Saturday Night Live and a major daily newspaper before he makes his first public appearance. But Ron Klain's low-profile first week as President Barack Obama's behind-the-scenes Ebola "czar" has become another attack point for a White House struggling to show it's on top of the crisis. Since starting last Wednesday, Klain has been seen only once, in a photo op on his first day, leaving health officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Institutes of Health - and...

Stephen DinanThe Washington TimesOctober 28, 2014 The State Department has quietly made plans to bring Ebola-infected doctors and medical aides to the U.S. for treatment, according to an internal department document that argued the only way to get other countries to send medical teams to West Africa is to promise the U.S. will be the world’s medical backstop. Some countries “are implicitly or explicitly waiting for medevac assurances” before they will agree to send their own medical teams to join U.S. and U.N. aid workers on the ground, the State Department argues in the undated four-page memo, which was reviewed...

Brett LoGiurato October 28, 2014Politico Magazine editor Michael Hirsh asked on Monday whether the Obama administration was full of a "team of bumblers" on the foreign policy and national security sides. At the heart of the criticism is the charge that the Obama White House is too insular and often doesn't have a strategy. According to House Armed Services Committee staffers who spoke to Hirsh, there is often a lack of coordination among the White House, Capitol Hill, and the Pentagon. And the general feeling is that the administration's National Security Council, which has beefed up to 300 members from...

(CNN) -- A 5-year-old boy who recently returned from Ebola-stricken West Africa is under observation at New York City's Bellevue Hospital Center after experiencing a fever, Dr. Ram Raju said on CNN on Monday. Special Section: More Ebola news The boy is undergoing an evaluation, which includes taking a thorough history of the child's recent travel with his family to West Africa and finding out if he's come into contact with people who have Ebola, said Raju, the president of New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, which oversees Bellevue. CNN's Chris Cuomo asked why the child wasn't simply tested...

Remember the woman who had her home sold out from underneath her by the inept hacks of Norcross, GA city government? The ones who received tax payments from her for three years, then seized her home without notice and sold it (also without notice) because they claimed they didn't know how to contact her. At her HOME. Where she LIVED? Yesterday city officials denied knowing anything about anything and suggested that, since the home had a new legal owner, there might not be anything they could do...except keep the money from the sale and throw this family out on the...

The folks at Media Matters for America are angry at the press. In a sublimely ironic post, Eric Boehlert fumes, “As Republicans seek to gain a partisan advantage by ginning up fear about the Ebola virus … they're getting a major assist from the news media.” Boehlert believes that media coverage of Ebola has abetted the GOP’s low designs by creating the “unfair” impression that the Obama administration is somehow incompetent ... Presumably, this indictment includes notorious right wing rags like the New York Times, which recently published an op-ed by Joe Nocera that points out the obvious: “When you...

Preparedness: Earlier this week, Sen. John McCain called for an Ebola czar, not knowing one already effectively exists. Why should he, since Nicole Lurie, M.D., M.S.P.H., has been completely M.I.A. You have to wonder sometimes if anyone in a leadership position in the Obama administration bothers to show up to work these days. Case in point is Dr. Nicole Lurie, who arguably should be front and center in planning for and responding to the Ebola outbreak. After all, it's right there in her job title.

Only a madman would gamble with our lives…our children’s lives…and the entire American economy. Why would President Obama play “Russian Roulette” with the future of our country? It’s a gamble no sane leader would take. The life and death issue is Ebola. The President is more concerned with political correctness (and golf) than taking common sense precautions to prevent a deadly pandemic. Why does this President not see his responsibility is to keep the odds as low as possible? There are three simple, common sense actions any President who cared about American citizens would take:

Julia La Roche October 13, 2014 We asked billionaire energy tycoon T. Boone Pickens on Friday what worries him the most about America. "Lack of leadership," he said. "We have the worst president we ever had," Pickens said. "I mean, he's going to be determined the worst before he ever gets out of office. He accomplished a lot less in eight years. Nobody else has ever done that. You know, Jimmy Carter loves him because he was the worst until he showed up, Obama (snip)

CNSNews.com) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has produced a video designed to instruct commercial airline crews on what they need to know and do considering that someone suffering from Ebola might end up on one of their flights. The video advises crew members working in the passenger cabins of commercial airliners on international flights to watch for people “who seem unwell or are using the restroom many times.”

Obama’s left never accepts responsibility for anything. Weaned on the sour milk of thuggish, tenured academicians and marinated in the surreal stew of lawyer-land, the odd creatures that infest our White House have no notion of work or honor or duty. This manifests itself in different ways. Mendacity has been elevated almost to a secular religion. Obama, his officials, his armies of minor minions prevaricate with such aplomb that one wonders if they truly know when they are lying or telling the truth. The disgraceful trail of obfuscations, dissimulations, and quarter-truths are invariably defended by the administration’s flacks with the...

From the last Morning Jolt of the week: What Is With Our President? Contemplating President Obama’s confident – and erroneous – assurance that Ebola was unlikely to reach America, and that if it did, America’s hospitals and doctors were prepared to diagnose and respond immediately — a veteran speechwriter for cabinet officials wrote in: In the times that I was involved in speeches for various folks in the previous administration they and those around him were highly attuned to hyperbole and statements such the one Obama made about Ebola. Now people can crack wise about Iraqi intelligence and the like,...

Okay...I have been reading many of the Ebola-related threads. This crap scares me, as I'm sure it scares many of you. I have seen posts that say this is going to spread due to the administration's incompetence. I have also seen posts that say it will spread due to the desire for the country's destruction by the same administration. This thread is to find out what you think the outcome is going to be. Martial law? Death on a massive scale? Suspension of elections and/or the Constitution? Will there be a public backlash? Or do you think it's going to...

The Dallas Hospital that sent Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan home said a software flaw, and not human error, caused doctors to miss the diagnosis, NBC News is reporting. The electronic health records (EHR) system that the hospital uses has a separate workflow for physicians and nurses. The travel history of the patient was located in the nursing portion of the workflow within the EHR, but not in the physician's workflow.

DALLAS, Texas (CNN) — The Dallas County Health and Human Services director said Friday that the Ebola situation there is “under control.” “It is contained,” Zachary Thompson told CNN’s “New Day” on Friday. The Ebola patient’s “family is being monitored. There is no outbreak. And so therefore everyone should ease their fears and allow public health officials … to respond to this issue.” Four days after a Liberian man was diagnosed with Ebola in the Texas city, the apartment where he stayed has not been sanitized, a cleaning crew contracted to do the job said. Four other people are still...
