The chief safety officer of the hazardous-materials company that cleaned the apartment of New York Citys first Ebola patient was, in a past career as a mortgage negotiator, accused of fraud in 2009 by the attorney general at the time, Andrew M. Cuomo.
In recent days, the safety officer, Sal Pane, has been the public face of the company, Bio-Recovery Corporation, which cleaned both the apartment of the patient, Dr. Craig Spencer, as well as a bowling alley that he had visited the night before he was taken to the hospital.
.........Mr. Pane said he changed the spelling of his surname to Pain, but the E.P.A. records and court papers filed by Mr. Cuomos office related to the fraud charges use only Pane. Officials with Comptroller Scott M. Stringers office said on Saturday that because the cleanup contract for Dr. Spencers apartment was handled on an emergency basis, the citys request was reviewed only preliminarily before the work began. The comptrollers office gave prior approval for the cleanup work, for up to $500,000, and was aware that Bio-Recovery would do the work. Eric Sumberg, a spokesman for the comptrollers office, said in a statement on Saturday: This office has no tolerance for corruption. When we receive this contract for registration we will take all steps necessary to ensure that this vendor has the integrity to do business with the city.....

When they they say this do they realize that readers are aware that they are in New York?<\snort>
The world is full of liars and cheats.
And D,C. is plum full of scoundrels.
And it has been so since the world began.
I used to trust, but, no more! So sad to become so very cynical, and, particularly since the corrupt vulgar trash in the White House.
The crooks in the WH did it for me!...maybe wisdom has come upon me.
So when the administration hires felons to sign you up for Zerocare, I guess that’s just fine with the Slimes..
Affirmative Action hard at work. We owes it to em!
Time for me to get some gubmint muny too./snort loudly and expectorate.
Maybe some of that farm subsidies. They already has me having a cow and raising cane.
OK. How did he do with this and other jobs in his current business? If he’s doing something illegal or committing other frauds, then jump him and those who hire him. If he’s doing a legit business, who really cares about his past? Let’s not turn this into a “Paula Dean said a bad word 25 years ago” (I realize his crimes are more recent) thing.
I can't wait to see the NYT headline, "For Top Dem 2016 Presidential Contender, a History of Fraud".
But I won't hold my breath.
First he is getting $500,000 dollars to clean an apartment!!
That ain’t legit.
Is there a problem? Something like this happening is the new normal. Seems the only people left in biz will be the crooks. And after all it is NYC, what could go wrong with de Blasio’s leadership, role modeling and medical expertise?
How do you determine that? You have risk of a deadly disease, you have specialized equipment/procedures, you have disposal costs of toxic materials. What's the going rate? Or....did you just pull a thought from a dark place and decide to attest to it as fact?
——This office has no tolerance for corruption. ——
However since the office is a part of a criminal enterprise, corruption would be not stealing the public money
So, papers were filed alleging fraud. When were they filed? What was the outcome? Is this a case still under investigation?
All I see is an attempt to smear someone.
Obviously, there has been no final determination that there was fraud. Had there been such a determination, the article would have said so (and it is unlikely this firm would have been awarded the contract). So, either the charges were dismissed or they are still under investigation.
If they are still under investigation, then this looks like an attempt to sway the outcome in favor of Cuomo’s office. If the charges were dismissed, then it looks like Cuomo’s office still has an interest in destroying this guy (for whatever reason; maybe he’s working on the opponent’s political campaign).
Whatever the situation, the motivation for publishing this looks extremely fishy.
Oops, I saw that the charges were filed in 2009.
Since it was so long ago, I’m guessing that they were found to be baseless. In that case, the motivation for publishing this article seems to be purely political—the Cuomo office wants to destroy this guy, and we don’t know why.
This office has no tolerance for corruption....funny
IOW, they didn't care about shoddy work or if the waste would be desposed of properly.
“First he is getting $500,000 dollars to clean an apartment!!
That aint legit.”
[...for up to $500,000...]
[...which cleaned both the apartment of the patient, Dr. Craig Spencer, as well as a bowling alley that he had visited the night before...]
This was the place the police / emergency response was dumping their suits in the trash can outside.
I bet the crook just had someone clean the bowling ball! : )
