"""HORROR! Immigrant Children Stripped Naked, Cuffed, Beaten and Strapped Down with Bags Over Their Heads… Under Obama"""" The Associated Press is running a horrific story today on how immigrant children were allegedly stripped naked, handcuffed, strapped down with bags over their head and beaten at a refugee facility in Virginia. An anonymous plaintiff is suing the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center for the abuse he endured at the facility. The teen came here from Mexico. He was a troubled kid and wound up in the high security facility. Now he’s suing the government for abuse he says he endured at the...

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) said on Wednesday that some of the 239 migrant children that were separated from their families and sent to his city have bed bugs and lice. De Blasio said he just learned that the children were sent to Cayuga Centers in Harlem, which is contracted by the federal government to help undocumented minors. "How is it possible that none of us knew there were 239 kids right here in our own city?" de Blasio asked, according to a CNN report. "How is the federal government holding back that information from the people...

American Airlines asked the federal government on Wednesday to stop using its commercial planes for “transporting children who have been separated from their families due to the current immigration policy.” The announcement, which was posted on American’s website, is the latest fallout from the Trump administration’s decision to separate parents who have arrived at the southern border illegally from their children. Several flight attendants for American, the world’s largest airline, have posted testimony on public and private social media channels in recent days, describing how they have seen groups of unaccompanied Latino children on domestic flights, accompanied not by parents...

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow broke down in tears on-air over a report about the Trump administration operating “tender age” shelters for migrant babies and toddlers. Maddow choked up while reading the first lines of the Associated Press report on the three facilities where children under the age of 13 are being sent after being separated from their parents at the border. She was unable to read the description of the shelters, first asking a producer to display a graphic and then deciding to abruptly end her segment. “I think I’m going to have to hand this off, sorry,” the MSNBC host...

At least five people died on Sunday in South Texas after an S.U.V. carrying a dozen unauthorized immigrants crashed while trying to speed away from Border Patrol agents and local officials, the authorities said. Several others were injured when they were ejected from the S.U.V., which was speeding about 100 miles per hour when it rolled over, the authorities said. The crash happened in Dimmit County, about 125 miles southwest of San Antonio. Marion Boyd, the Dimmit County sheriff, said two United States citizens — the driver and one passenger — were trying to smuggle 12 unauthorized immigrants. He said...

US Border Patrol accused of misleading immigrants while separating families: ‘They’re taking kids for baths and never returning'Federal public defenders say that immigration enforcement officials in the United States have repeatedly deceived immigrant parents arriving in the US seeking shelter from violent conditions in their home country, telling those individuals that they are taking their children away for baths or other benign reasons only to never return with them. Miguel Nogueres, a federal public defender in McAllen, Texas said that he’s seen a dramatic increase in the number of cases his office sees on any given day during the presidency...

A commercial promoting pork says: "PUT SOME PORK ON YOUR FORK" The MAYOR REFUSES TO REMOVE PORK FROM SCHOOL CAFETERIA MENU AND EXPLAINS WHY: Muslim parents demanded the abolition of pork in all the school canteens of a Montreal suburb. The mayor of the Montreal suburb of Dorval has refused, and the town clerk sent a note to all parents to explain why. Slovenia was a key transit point during the European refugee crisis with about half a million passing through in 2015.The SDS party of veteran right-wing leader Janez Jansa is leading in Slovenia's parliamentary election, according to an exit poll published after voting ended on Sunday. The exit poll for public television gave Jansa's SDS 24.4 percent with the "anti-system" party of comedian-turned-politician Marjan Sarec coming second on 12.6 percent. If confirmed in official results, the results mean a coalition government likely will have to be formed. Preliminary results will be issued by the State Election Commission later on Sunday. Jansa...

Democrats have yet to reach a consensus on what message might resonate most favorably with voters this Fall. Citing a poll finding that 60% of voters don't believe the Mueller probe has uncovered any crimes, Democratic strategist Jesse Ferguson suggested that "we need to focus our message on the successes of the investigation. Granted, there hasn't yet been any evidence of Russian collusion, but several people have been indicted for other crimes." Almost all of these "other crimes" involve lying to federal agents. The one seemingly significant crime not in this category is the charge that Paul Manafort engaged in...

A New York lawyer who went on a rant targeting Spanish-speaking restaurant workers is reportedly being kicked out of his office space. The New York Post reported Thursday that Corporate Suites, the company that operates the business center in which attorney Aaron Schlossberg leases office space, has terminated its agreement with him. "His actions are just not consistent with our community and rules and regulations," the company's president, Hayim Grant, told the Post. "It’s totally contrary to everything we believe in as a company and personally." A BuzzFeed News reporter confirmed that Corporate Suites has ended its agreement with Schlossberg....

The Trump administration is considering a policy change that might discourage immigrants who are seeking permanent residency from using government-supported health care, a scenario that is alarming some doctors, hospitals and patient advocates. Under the proposed plan, a lawful immigrant holding a visa could be passed over for getting permanent residency — a green card — if they use Medicaid, a subsidized Obamacare plan, food stamps, tax credits or a list of other non-cash government benefits, according to a draft of the plan published by The Washington Post. Even the use of such benefits by a child who is a...

Seriously, if the law forces us to let them in - which is happening as we speak - why are we talking about "The Wall"? I suddenly realize today that the wall will be a big waste of money if we still have to let them in to apply for asylum. They are in whoever they are - no vetting possible. Period. And then we feed them - welfare - food stamps - free housing - free healthcare - free schools ... and here we go again. Or am I missing something?

Organization says mixing immigration and terrorism harms MuslimsTwo anti-Trump organizations filed a lawsuit Monday arguing that a government report earlier this year linking immigrants to most of the country’s terrorism cases since 2001 is so misleading that it violates federal law. The request seeks to recruit federal judges to police the accuracy of the administration, in what — if it’s successful — could become a model for anti-Trump groups to push back on a president they see as having a tenuous connection to the truth. The January report concluded that 73 percent of the 549 people convicted of international terrorism...

In 1996, right after voters in California banned affirmative action in employment and college admissions, minority student enrollment at two and four-year institutions plummeted. What has happened since though, is pretty remarkable. Of the 2.8 million students attending college in California today, two out of three come from racially and ethnically diverse populations. The most eye-popping increase in enrollment has been among Latinos. They now make up 43 percent of all college students in California. Twenty-six percent are white, followed by Asian and Pacific Islanders at 16 percent and African Americans at 6 percent. Business, education and civil rights groups...
