Drought is driving poor Indian women into exploitative sugar cane work in the central state of Maharashtra, with many of the migrant labourers opting to undergo unnecessary hysterectomies to work even harder, research showed on Feb 7. Years of failed monsoons, extreme heat and droughts have led residents of Beed, a district in the top sugar-producing state to leave and become day labourers on plantations, said the report by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), a London-based think-tank. The research found more than half of the Beed women who had gone to work on sugar plantations had undergone...

Women (especially those aged younger than 45 years) who have undergone a hysterectomy may be at greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes (T2D), according to a study of more than 83,000 middle-aged French women who were followed for an average of 16 years. "The findings suggest that women who undergo hysterectomy before the age of 45 have a 52% increased risk of developing incident type 2 diabetes," says Professor Fabrice Bonnet. Hysterectomy may be recommended as a treatment for heavy periods, fibroids, endometriosis, and gynecological cancers. The surgery removes the uterus (or womb), sometimes along with the fallopian tubes,...

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A woman was forced to have emergency surgery and a hysterectomy after suffering complications after having an abortion at a clinic in Baton Rouge. The procedure took place in early 2019 at the Delta Clinic on Colonial Drive. However, details did not come to light until the anti-abortion group, Louisiana Right to Life, discovered the incident during a recent search of public records. The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) ultimately ordered the clinic to agree to a long list of corrective actions before it could continue operating. According to the incident report compiled by LDH,...

Lena Dunham has shared an emotional message alongside naked pictures nine months after her hysterectomy. The 32-year-old, who had the operation in December after suffering for years with endometriosis, said the occasion felt bittersweet. She explained that the date was particularly poignant as nine months is the length of time a woman carries a baby before birth – and ‘I won’t ever do it the way I planned to.’

For those whose thinking has been slowed or hindered by liberalism: It turns out that mutilating your body in order to satisfy some demented desire to change your sex simply because you feel like it can have deadly consequences. Recently in my home state of Georgia, a 25-year-old woman—Rebeccah Feldhaus—who was in the process of “transitioning” to a man—which is, of course, impossible—died of sepsis after complications from a hysterectomy. According to the Augusta Chronicle, Feldhaus’ hysterectomy was necessary to treat her polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Among other things, PCOS often results in extra facial and body hair, acne, and...

A transgender man is suing a Catholic hospital in New Jersey for canceling his hysterectomy surgery after his doctor deemed the procedure “medically necessary” as part of his sex transition. The surgery was scheduled at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, but an administrator canceled the operation because of the hospital’s religious affiliation.A lawsuit filed on Thursday claims that a Catholic hospital denied a transgender man a hysterectomy due to ethical and religious directives from the US Conference of Bishops. The man, Jionni Conforti alleges that doing so violated his patient’s bill of rights that states hospitals will provide medical services...

LONDON, England -- The Duchess of Cornwall, the second wife of Prince Charles formerly known as Camilla Parker Bowles, is to undergo a hysterectomy operation at the beginning of March. A spokeswoman for Clarence House, the Prince of Wales' official London residence, said the Duchess, who turns 60 this year, was not suffering from cancer. The spokeswoman said the Duchess would carry out public engagements in the run-up to the routine operation, including an overseas tour with Prince Charles to a number of Middle Eastern Gulf states. She is expected to recuperate for six weeks after the operation. "It's a...

When Michelle LeFeber was rushed to a hospital emergency room on the Fourth of July last year bleeding heavily, she told doctors she was probably passing kidney stones. As they examined her, however, doctors found evidence that LeFeber had recently given birth. Police never found a baby. But they did find out about a strikingly similar hospital visit the Wrightstown woman made 10 months before. Criminal charges in the bizarre case have now been resolved, but questions from it may never be. As part of an unusual plea agreement, LeFeber recently had a hysterectomy - a procedure her husband thought...

A new report suggests that for women who have had hysterectomies, taking estrogen does not increase the risk of heart disease and may even protect the heart in those who are younger, from 50 to 59. The findings, being published today in The Archives of Internal Medicine, concern the use of estrogen alone and differ from earlier studies of estrogen and progesterone. The studies of combined hormones found that they increased the risk of heart disease, breast cancer and other ailments. The new results lend support to a theory held by some researchers, that hormone therapy may help prevent heart...

An investigational hormone patch developed by Proctor & Gamble and now in clinical trials may offer hope to post-menopausal women who have experienced a decline in sexual desire. The clinical trials of a thin, nearly-transparent...
