LONDON, England -- The Duchess of Cornwall, the second wife of Prince Charles formerly known as Camilla Parker Bowles, is to undergo a hysterectomy operation at the beginning of March.
A spokeswoman for Clarence House, the Prince of Wales' official London residence, said the Duchess, who turns 60 this year, was not suffering from cancer.
The spokeswoman said the Duchess would carry out public engagements in the run-up to the routine operation, including an overseas tour with Prince Charles to a number of Middle Eastern Gulf states.
She is expected to recuperate for six weeks after the operation.
"It's a routine scheduled operation but we wouldn't disclose any further details of a private medical condition," the spokeswoman said.

I didn't know they performed those operations on horses.
Dang! now what are we going to do??
According to this magazine I saw in the checkout line at the grocery store (an impeccable source), this is a cover for the fact that she is going to have a full body and face lift.
So, she's going to wait 8 months or so for her day to come up, just like everyone else in the UK, right?
Thank God we got the news before Al Qaeda.... Oops, I think that might still be classified. I'd better turn myself in to Patrick Fitzgerald and see if I can get immunity by rolling over on Scooter.
Does that mean she's being spayed, or that she's having Charles removed?
I really think the information about Camilla having a hysterectomy falls under the heading of "too much information". The tabloids have been screaming that this is a cover-up for head-to-toe cosmetic surgery, but my response is still: "Who cares?"
For heaven's sake, do public people have ANY privacy anymore? If she has surgery for personal or cosmetic reasons to make herself feel better, that is her business, IMHO.
PS. Sorry I sent that to you; it seems the original poster's remark was removed. I hit reply on your remark because you had an interesting query, and I didn't mean to "vent" in response to your good comment (I was going to vent anyway, LOL!). Again, sorry!
But the kids wanted a new pony!
In case you're wondering, your photo in post #1 was removed because it was a Getty Image, something not permitted at this forum.
True. But the results of a trip to the Harley St. version of Dr. 90210 would be fairly obvious. So, if this is the case, why claim the hospitalization's for a hysterectomy? Sheesh.
I'm glad when i had an operation the news wasn't trumpeted all over the world.
I feel the same way, even though I am generally pretty open with people about what I'm going through (I usually want all the prayer support I can get). But if I had something done that I did NOT want others to know about, I think I should be able to keep it private.
Thank goodness I'm not famous (OR infamous, LOL!).
Is it unusual for a woman her age to have a hysterectomy? I thought those were usually done on pre-menopausal women. But what do I know.
The examining doctor found wedged in her cervical region a tiny absorbent replica of Prince Charles that cannot be removed without major surgery.
They are performed to relieve a variety of symptoms, some of which are unrelated to the monthly cycles. Other than that, I don't know much about them.
My wife had one, and she still gets hysterical, so I'm not sure the procedure works.
LOL! Stop now.
LOL --- that's baaaaaad, but awfully funny.
And Hillary will wait a year under HillaryCare 2008 to get a hip operation.....
