I was checking my 8-yr old son's classwork assignment grades. He was so demoralized that he was getting C, D and F on many assignments. I was shocked and delved deeper. Turns out he is assiged a letter grade on these assignments even though he is "making progress" getting up to 70 or even 80 percent of the questions right. Worse, he was assigned an F grade on an assignment because he did not get the meaning for terms "Human Rights" and "Tolerance". WTF is an 8-yr old supposed to know this shtuff? Damn....I am seriously considering pulling him out...

At least 90 Iraqi teenagers with "emo" appearances have been stoned to death by religious extremists in Baghdad in the past month after an inflammatory interior ministry statement dubbed it "devil worshiping", activists said. Iraq's Moral Police released a chilling statement on the interior ministry's website condemning the "emo phenomenon" among Iraqi youth, disturbingly declaring its intent to "eliminate" the trend. "The 'Emo phenomenon' or devil worshiping is being followed by the Moral Police who have the approval to eliminate [the phenomenon] as soon as possible since it's detrimentally affecting the society and becoming a danger," the statement read. {snip}...

Following are excerpts from an interview with US Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which aired on Al-Hayat TV on January 30, 2012. Ruth Bader Ginsburg: It is a very inspiring time - that you have overthrown a dictator, and that you are striving to achieve a genuine democracy. So I think people in the United States are hoping that this transition will work, and that there will genuinely be a government of, by, and for the people. From the streets of Tunis to Tahrir Square and beyond, protests around the world last year were built on the Internet and the many devices that interact with it... It is no surprise, then, that the protests have raised questions about whether Internet access is or should be a civil or human right.... ...technology is an enabler of rights, not a right itself. There is a high bar for something to be considered a human right. Loosely put, it must be among the things we as humans need in order to lead healthy, meaningful lives, like freedom from torture or...

Rights campaigners and politicians Wednesday condemned a video showing women from a protected and primitive tribe dancing for tourists in exchange for food on India's far-flung Andaman Islands. British newspaper The Observer released the video showing Jarawa tribal women -- some of them naked -- being lured to dance and sing after a bribe was allegedly paid to a policeman to produce them. Under Indian laws designed to protect ancient tribal groups susceptible to outside influence and disease, photographing or coming into contact with the Jarawa is illegal.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia's Foreign Ministry has attacked America's human rights record in its first report on injustice elsewhere in the world, offering examples such as the Guantanamo Bay prison and wrongful death row convictions to paint the U.S. as hypocritical for lecturing other nations on the subject of rights.

This week the U.S. Congress held hearings on human rights in Russia. The first remarks by Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), conducting the hearings, and they were pretty tough. This was not surprising, since long ago she signed a bill named for Sergey L. Magnitsky, a Russian attorney killed in police custody. This bill now has twenty-five senators supporting it in the upper house of the U.S. Congress, and may well be adopted. Further testimony was given Phillip H. Gordon, Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of European and Eurasian affairs, and Thomas O. Melia, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the...

Most of the time when we hear John Bolton, we hear him in small sound bites on Fox News. But in this interview John Bolton talks about Iran at length, discussing what we know about Iran’s nuclear facilities, why sanctions won’t work, and what he expects Israel to do in the next couple of years. Very interesting discussion:

Sunday In Israeli Knesset's legislative committee they postponed a vote on the outposts. This Sunday is when you can make a difference. Read on. The battle for the rights of the 7000 young Israelis living in so-called outposts (young communities in Judea and Samaria which lack formal government approval for political reasons) is fierce in Israel. European funded leftwing pro-Palestinian groups are doing their best to have these communities both delegitimized and decimated. The Israeli public generally sympathizes with the communities, among other reasons due to the fact that deceased Israeli war heroes, known to every Israeli family, lived in...

GENEVA (AP) — The U.N.'s top human rights official says her office estimates the death toll in Syria's nine-month uprising is now "much more" than 4,000. Navi Pillay, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, gave the latest figure a day before the global body is due to hold an emergency meeting on the crisis in the country. Pillay told reporters in Geneva on Thursday that evidence emerging of abuses committed by Syrian security forces affirms her call that the country's leadership should be prosecuted for "crimes against humanity."

Weisskopf, founder of the UnPromised Land channel Despite the widespread outcry against the Ministry of Welfare, senior management refused this week to fight corruption which has been deeply-entrenched in the Ministry of Welfare for over 30 years. One of the communities that has suffered most at the hands of the Ministry of Welfare are Ethiopian immigrants. According to the Jewish Agency, Ethiopians are less than 3% of Israel’s immigrant population while Ethiopian children represent 50% of the immigrant population under the Ministry of Welfare’s control.
