I finally went down to the Wellesley police station yesterday morning to fill out the necessary paperwork and pay $100 to get myself a gun permit. After getting my firearms safety certificate, I’d been dragging my feet for months. But I finally wised up after this latest Islamist terrorist massacre, in San Bernardino. As appalling as the slaughter was, what was even more shocking was the reaction of the cops and the media. What could the terrorists’
motive possibly be? How many times did you hear that absurd question asked? Were you yelling at the TV set too? And how...

So this contretemps all started when Trump said Muslims in Jersey City celebrated the genocidal 9/11 attack by their co-religionists. Not true, the grandees and dandies sniffed, until it turned out that multiple newspaper stories and radio reports backed up Trump. So the powers that be had to knuckle the original reporter to issue a correction to his own story — 14 years later. Trump then made sport of the reporter’s disability — and I’m certainly not going to defend that. But see how far afield we’ve gotten from the original tempest in a teapot. Forget 9/11, Trump is mean...

This just in to the newsroom — Deval Patrick is no longer governor of the commonwealth. We are reminded of these glad tidings by a simple press release that was issued Thanksgiving Eve. It announced that next Tuesday evening, the new governor will be lighting a “Christmas tree†at the State House. No muss, no fuss, no controversy. It’s Christmas, so a Christmas tree is going up on Beacon Hill. Merry Christmas! Granted, it’s a small step on a long road, but after eight years of the PC malaise that marked Deval Patrick’s disastrous tenure, at least a bit of...

At Triton Regional High School in Rowley, it’s 1984 — the novel, not the year. The sniveling PC school
administration is backing off now, but the 32-page questionnaire they were asking their middle and high school students to fill out last week is chilling. It’s downright totalitarian, and it’s put out by the Harvard School of Education, but I repeat myself. The kids from the high and middle schools (the questionnaire included a box for 10-year-olds to check) were asked by the apparatchiks from the People’s Republic of Cambridge to rat out their parents for insufficient
Political Correctness. George Orwell’s...

It's been more than a week now since Barack Obama announced that reports of his plan to end U.S. involvement in the war in Afghanistan have been greatly exaggerated. By himself. Related Articles VictimÂ’s mom wonÂ’t watch Benghazi hearing Adriana Cohen: Obama, Kerry weak hostage negotiators Harvard football team on point And now it turns out that the war in Iraq, which I could have sworn heÂ’d sworn was already over, isnÂ’t. In fact, a U.S. soldier was just killed there during a hostage-rescue operation against ISIS terrorists. Cindy Sheehan could not be reached for comment. Traffic on I-93 continues...

Which Hillary Clinton is going to show up for the first Democratic presidential debate Tuesday night in Las Vegas? Mark Twain once said that if you don’t like the weather in New England, just wait five minutes. Same thing with Hillary’s position on the issues — just wait five minutes, or maybe five focus groups. She — and the viewing public — caught a break this week when CNN cut the length of the debate from three hours to two. On some issues, Hillary may now have time to espouse only three or four contradictory positions. Remember, Hillary is a...

It’s not that Donald Trump is that good, it’s that most of the GOP hacks he’s running against are that bad. The more these illegal-alien-coddling Republicans-in-name-only attack Trump, the stronger he becomes. Every knock a boost. It’s the Hotel California all over again: “They stab it with their steely knives. But they just can’t kill the beast.” Consider the collection of frauds Trump has decimated over the past few weeks: Karl Rove and the rest of the GOP consultant class; The Wall Street Journal and Fox News; the Chamber of Commerce, the Bush family, the Sununus, squirrelly Silicon Valley billionaires,...

Finally, at long last, someone has gone broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public. And it couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch — Boston 2024. There is a God. The lesson here is from Abraham Lincoln: You can’t fool all of the people all of the time — even in Massachusetts. It’s a great victory for the people, but it could easily have gone the other way. What if Marsha Coakley had been elected governor? The state would already be on the hook for $5 billion in cost overruns. Like most flim-flams, the Boston Olympics collapsed abruptly. Perplexing,...

Every time another foreign terrorist murders Americans in cold blood, I think of Ted Kennedy. It’s still unclear how this latest Middle East monster infiltrated the United States. But you can bet it involved his family taking advantage of one of Ted Kennedy’s “landmark” laws — the Immigration Reform Act of 1965, perhaps, or the Refugee Act of 1980. Or maybe his father utilized one of the “terrorist visas” enshrined by the Immigration Act of 1990. That catastrophe, by the way, was signed into law by Juan Ellis Bush’s father, Bush 41. Teddy’s fingerprints are all over each of these...

Wisconsin Governor and likely GOP presidential candidate Scott Walker joined the Howie Carr radio show on Friday to praise GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina and knock a recent Washington Times story. A columnist for the Boston Herald and talk radio host, Carr took to Twitter posting quotes during his interview with Walker. His first tweet read, “@ScottWalker tells me WashTimes story is inaccurate. He will not be skipping Iowa. IAPolitics “We play to win.””

Jeb Bush sucks. Why beat around the ... bush? It’s reality. Juan Ellis Bush is stumbling around the country, and the more Republicans he meets, the further he drops in the polls. In Oklahoma over the weekend, he finished sixth — sixth! — in a straw poll. In Iowa, he’s been running seventh. Even in New Hampshire, he’s slip-sliding away, tied for third in the most recent Bloomberg poll. “I am a Bush and I am proud of it,” he blurted out last week in Portsmouth. “I mean, what am I supposed to say?” How about, “I quit.” Or, “I’m...

Thank you, jury! In case you had any lingering doubts about the wisdom of these 12 good men and women, consider the scurvy crew that’s frothing at the mouth over the fate of the tousle-haired All-American boy on the cover of Rolling Stone. Moonbats, NPR, The Boston Globe, terrorists — but I repeat myself. A crackpot nun was flown up here from New Orleans five times on the taxpayers’ dime to gaze into Tousle Hair’s dreamy brown eyes and attest to his EBT card-carrying Third World hunkiness. The Joker gives the courthouse camera the finger, and now the jury gives...

The former governor of Florida, John (or as he prefers to be called, Juan) Ellis Bush, doesn't appear to have a lot of support among Republicans, as opposed to Republicans in Name Only (RINOs), who absolutely adore him. But Juan isn't sweating it. He's rolling in dough, and more importantly, he's rolling in opponents. Have you ever heard of a "straw" candidate? When you have a weak front-runner that can't reach 50 percent, often a third, or a fourth, or even a fifth candidate suddenly jumps into the race. If he has a name similar to that of the strongest...

The Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate needs to make a couple of additions — namely, a comedy wing and a laugh track. Lest we forget, for decades Ted Kennedy was the Norm Crosby of the Democrat party, mangling not just Oldsmobiles and blondes, but also the English language. But political correctness now demands that all avert their eyes from the train wreck, er, automobile accident, that was Teddy’s life. Presumably the Fox News Channel anchor’s tongue was firmly in cheek as he mentioned Ted’s ability to “inspire new generations.” But Scott Pelley wasn’t kidding last week when...

BOSTON, MA – One of the more public divorces in Boston media history turns out to have been just a trial separation. Howie Carr and WRKO (680AM and 93.7FM HD-2) announced today that the legendary author, columnist and talk show host will return to the Entercom station on Monday, March 16. Carr will assume the weekday afternoon time slot he occupied on WRKO for decades, 3-7 p.m. Entercom Boston’s VP / Market Manager Phil Zachary said he believes Carr’s return was meant to be. “As the holidays passed, it became obvious to me that WRKO and Howie belong together,” he...
