  • Houston Seeks To Monitor Sermons Via Subpoena

    10/15/2014 9:52:12 AM PDT · by LeoMcNeil · 4 replies
Five pastors in the City of Houston have been hit with a subpoena demanding copies of sermons and other pastoral communications. These pastors apparently oppose a City Ordinance which allows men to go into the ladies restroom and vice versa. A petition drive was launched against the “non-discrimination” ordinance, which over 50,000 residents signed. The City claimed there were “irregularities” in the collection of signatures and refused to put the issue on the ballot. As such a lawsuit was filed against the city, which then turned around and issued subpoenas to these pastors. Interestingly none of the pastors are parties...

Churches have received subpoenas issued by the city of Houston demanding copies of sermons. Houston is probing opposition to a ballot referendum pertaining to an ordinance proposing a local discrimination law affecting gays. (Bryan Preston posted this summary of the lawlessness taking place in Houston.) Over 50,000 petition signatures were gathered opposing the ordinance. Now the city, run by the first openly gay mayor, Annise Parker, is retaliating and demanding that churches turn over sermons. You read that correctly. This is the sort of government behavior that used to be confined to two-bit third-world regimes. The gay rights movement was...

The city of Houston has issued subpoenas demanding a group of pastors turn over any sermons dealing with homosexuality, gender identity or Annise Parker, the city’s first openly lesbian mayor. And those ministers who fail to comply could be held in contempt of court. “The city’s subpoena of sermons and other pastoral communications is both needless and unprecedented,” Alliance Defending Freedom attorney Christina Holcomb said in a statement. “The city council and its attorneys are engaging in an inquisition designed to stifle any critique of its actions.” ADF, a nationally-known law firm specializing in religious liberty cases, is representing five...

Conservative Christian pastors in Houston who opposed an equal rights ordinance had their sermons and other private communications subpoenaed by city attorneys fighting to keep a repeal referendum off the ballot.Houston Chronicle: Houston's embattled equal rights ordinance took another legal turn this week when it surfaced that city attorneys, in an unusual step, subpoenaed sermons given by local pastors who oppose the law and are tied to the conservative Christian activists that have sued the city. Opponents of the equal rights ordinance are hoping to force a repeal referendum when they get their day in court in January, claiming City...

. 2014-10-15 Houston LGBT Mayor has EVERY LEGAL RIGHT to Prosecute Christian Churches for Political Activity First, I (Patton@Bastogne) am a pro-life anti-gay-marriage evangelical Christian. Second, (in today's news story reported by The Houston Chronicle, below) ... I am calling out the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) and their attorney Christina Holcomb ... as "Despicable Liars". ADF attorneys KNOW FULL WELL that Churches' "voluntary" acceptance of the IRS 501-C3 "federal contract" means that Christian Churches SURRENDER their rights to ... First Admendment "Free Speech" ... when practiced behind a "tax-exempt church pulpit". Period. I openly challenge the deceptive ADF organization (and...

Houston's embattled equal rights ordinance took another legal turn this week when it surfaced that city attorneys, in an unusual step, subpoenaed sermons given by local pastors who oppose the law and are tied to the conservative Christian activists that have sued the city. Opponents of the equal rights ordinance are hoping to force a repeal referendum when they get their day in court in January, claiming City Attorney David Feldman wrongly determined they had not gathered enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. City attorneys issued subpoenas last month during the case's discovery phase, seeking, among other communications,...

Officials with the city of Houston, Texas, who are defending a controversial ordinance that would allow men to use women’s restrooms now have demanded to see the sermons preached by several area pastors. The recent move came in a subpoena from the city to pastors for copies of their sermons and other communications in the city’s legal defense of a “non-discrimination” measure that allows “gender-confused” people to use public restrooms designated for the opposite sex. A lawsuit challenging Houston’s move alleges the city violated its own charter in its adoption of the Equal Rights Ordinance, which in May designated homosexuals...

Houston Patriots perform a stealth demonstration on October 2,2014 at the Hotel ZaZa in anticipation of Congressman Luis Gutierrez's arrival. This event was hosted by the Mexican-American Bar Association and many noteworthy elected officials and judges were present. Cars entering the drive were greeted with a huge No Reconquista sign in sync with the attitudes and radicalism of the ethnocentric anti-American crowd and their fellow travelers. They were treated to a full spectrum of patriotic music in jazz, punk, heavy metal and pop.

An HFD employee is under investigation and on administrative duty because of something he posted on his personal Facebook page. The post is set to a backdrop of an American flag and reads, "Proud Infidel. F*** Islam and F*** Muslims." It was posted to his timeline earlier this month, and at one point, it was even his profile picture. When we brought it to the attention of the Houston Fire Department, Chief Terry Garrison responded with a statement, "As soon as I was made aware of the situation, I adopted a complaint on the matter, launching an internal investigation." On Friday, September 26,2014 a luncheon was scheduled at the First Circuit Court of Appeals. It was a meeting arranged by Judge Michael Massengale and the Activist Catholic Charities helping to arrange relief for Unaccompanied Minors crossing the borders in droves and explain their vulnerabilities as they encounter our legal system. The goal here, in brief, is to get the word out to the legal community to provide "pro-bono" assistance and train these attorneys to understand the various statuses in refugee, asylum, traffficking law. The powerpoint presentation (http://www.stopthemagnet.com/blog/elected-officials-learn-legal-loopholes-keep-uacs-place) is full of legal sleight of hand in prepping lawyers to help get these...

U.S. energy exports, much of which come from the Houston region, represent a large chunk of the nation's overall export growth in the coming years, according to a new national HSBC Bank USA report. The banking report notes that Houston will see an additional job creation surge going forward partially because of energy exports that target emerging foreign markets. HSBC specially mentions that "chemical plant expansions and liquefied natural gas terminal upgrades, coupled with the opening of Mexico's energy industry to foreign investment, will result in a new export boom for Houston and will create more than 55,000 new jobs."...

The man attempting the robbery appears to have a pistol gripped shotgun of unknown make.    In the video, it is clear that he hides the shotgun until he starts to attempt the robbery.   In the narrative, it is unclear exactly what happens next, whether the father pulls out a gun and tells the robber to leave after the daughter is threatened, or whether the father hands the gun to the 20 year old son,  or whether the son takes the gun from the father, and then shoots the robber.  It seems most likely that the father handed the handgun...

During the summer months most rational hard-working citizen taxpayers were aghast at the huge amount of "refugee" & "unaccompanied minors" and illegal alien family units being dumped upon their communities in buses often under cover of the night. But not the City of Houston, this was a platform for "diversity" spewing propaganda, internationalism, and third world celebrations.Houston welcomes "more than 2,000 refugees every year"! All of the enablers, communists,"charitable organizations" and amnesty advocates coming together for the WORLD REFUGEE DAY during the month of June.

A conservative group has filed a criminal complaint against state Sen. John Whitmire, accusing him of coercion in an exchange of text messages with University of Houston President Renu Khator that was published in the Houston Chronicle. In the Aug. 16 conversation, Whitmire told Khator he would "stop dead and pass leg (legislation)" unless she killed a plan to require freshmen to live on campus. Khator agreed to withdraw the proposal and asked Whitmire to forgive her. The complaint, filed Aug. 29 with Travis County's Public Integrity Unit by the Conservative Action Fund, cites the exchange. The unit investigates claims...

Social media was buzzing on the night of August 11th when several people managed to snap photographs of what appeared to be an oval-shaped craft in the sky over Houston during stormy weather. Some of the images showed the object, which seemed to have a single point of light in its center, situated in the foreground with dark storm clouds looming menacingly behind it. The disc was pictured from several angles by different witnesses and seemed to change position in the air multiple times. Rep. According to the Houston Chronicle, Jackson Lee and others gathered to say they oppose the group’s effort to raise awareness about the right to openly carry rifles and shotguns in Texas. “We come in peace,” said Jackson Lee. “On behalf of many thousands who live in this community...

The USS Houston sank during World War II after being hit by the Japanese, killing 700 sailors and Marines. Now, more than 70 years later, U.S. and Indonesian divers have confirmed that a sunken vessel in the Java Sea was the wreck of the ship dubbed "The Galloping Ghost of the Java Coast."The Houston was carrying 1,068 crewmen when it was hit on Feb. 28, 1942, during the Battle of Sunda Strait. Only 291 sailors and Marines survived the sinking and their later use as slave labor by the Japanese. The vessel's commanding officer, Capt. Albert H. Rooks, was posthumously...
