The alleged rape of a Maryland high school student by two schoolmates — one an undocumented immigrant — has prompted a torrent of threats and hate messages to the school and the school system, a county school spokesman said Thursday. Hundreds of hate-filled emails and calls have been received by Rockville High School and the Montgomery County Public School District, Derek Turner said. The calls and emails came after police said two students, 18-year-old Henry Sanchez-Milian and 17-year-old Jose Montano, had been arrested and charged as adults with first-degree rape.

The warning was clear: Christian parents should pull their children out of public schools, now, to protect them from spiritual damage, extreme indoctrination, and other serious problems. Pastors and churches should work to encourage that “exodus,” helping and encouraging families to put their kids in homeschools or private Christian schools as quickly as possible. The alternative will be the continued decline of the church in America and an acceleration of the nation's decline. That was the explosive message of an evangelical ministry leader speaking as a guest this week on one of America's top Christian radio programs.Dr. James Dobson, one...

A group of moms in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., has decided to fight back against what they call the radical left-wing indoctrination that has infested the local school system. They call themselves the “Conservative Chicks” and one of their leaders contacted me after reading my new book, “The Deplorables’ Guide to Making America Great Again.”She realized it was time to take a stand after a teacher at the local high school led a classroom presentation on fascism that included a graphic portrayal comparing President Donald Trump to Hitler and Mussolini. That’s right, folks. A tenth-grade teacher at Saratoga Springs High School...

I am a black Tea Party guy -- speaker, singer, activist, and prolific writer. I became exposed to and educated about home-schooled kids while traveling the country on fourteen Tea Party national bus tours. Home-schooled kids are strikingly smarter, better educated, calmer, and better behaved. I also noticed that every home-schooled kid I spoke with looked me in the eye. They seemed happy with a subtle confidence. Years ago, I spoke to a class of black students at a Baltimore middle school. I asked each student to state their name. Stunningly, I had to ask several students to repeat their...

OKLAHOMA CITY - They may miss that hour of sleep, but as we turn our clocks ahead, chances are kids won't be changing their watches. That's because the vast majority don't have a watch. A new study shows that only 1-in-10 Oklahoma City kids ages 6-12 own a watch. And only 1-in-5 know how to read it. "Yeah, I was super surprised," said Caitlin Carnes, who works for the Boys & Girls Club at Santa Fe South Elementary. "When I was growing up that was something that we learned. I don't know if that makes me old or not." Instead...

The Smith family in DeWitt has endured more than its share of challenging circumstances. But having access to an online charter school has been a great help. During a single week in 2007, Sandy Smith was diagnosed with breast cancer and her son Andrew was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. After Andrew passed away at eight years old, the Smiths enrolled their two surviving children in a cyber school. “We thought this would be a great opportunity, a great fit for us, because we could take it with us wherever we were going, we would have teachers involved, and we’d...

Raising children is no walk in the park, but it’s even more difficult when the state dictates what you can and cannot do with your own family. Kiarre Harris is a devoted single mother, trying her hardest to provide her children with the best possible upbringing.Government schooling has been failing children for years.After growing concerned that her children were not receiving an adequate education from the Buffalo public school system in New York State, she made the decision to pull her kids out of their school."I felt that the district was failing my children,” Harris reported.Harris’ feelings are not uncommon...

Among the initial opposition to Betsy DeVos' confirmation this week as education secretary were calls on social media by parents, including liberals, to start homeschooling their children. That reaction to DeVos — a billionaire school-choice advocate who has never worked, attended or sent her kids to a public school — reflects how polarizing her nomination was. It also comes layered with paradox. That's because DeVos, whom the Senate confirmed Tuesday to head the Education Department, is herself a big proponent of homeschooling. In a 2013 interview with Philanthropy magazine, DeVos, who has invested in private and charter schools and is...

A single mother in Buffalo claims she was arrested and her children were unjustly taken from her custody just because she tried to homeschool them. Kiarre Harris decided to homeschool her children because she felt the Buffalo public school system was failing them. On Dec. 7, she filed documents at Buffalo City Hall informing the district of her intent to homeschool her children.... A week after filing the documents, Child Protective Services called asking why her children were not in school. She explained the situation and told them she could provide the paperwork proving she was homeschooling them. No indication...

In a tizzy after Betsy DeVos was confirmed as President Trump’s Sec. of Education, liberals on Twitter started considering the merits of homeschooling for the first time. The irony of invoking the freedom to choose where their kids go to school as a way to protest a pro-school choice Sec. of Education seemed lost on them. {..snip..}

Chris WellerJanuary 23,2017 Jessica Epting, a homeschool mother of four, with her kids in their home in the Bronx, New York During Betsy DeVos' recent three-hour confirmation hearing to become President Donald Trump's education secretary, charter schools came up no fewer than 60 times. Homeschooling was mentioned once. Charter schools have become a significant part of the US public-education system and now educate 2.5 million kids. But homeschooling has quietly experienced a surge in recent years too. Brian Ray, a homeschooling researcher at the National Home Education Research Institute, estimates the number of kids taught at home is growing by...

The saga of Julie Goffstein and her children needs to make all of us demand better. A travesty was done to children who were ripped apart from a loving and by all accounts good mother, from their heritage and from their way of life. Moreover, the tragic injustice done in this case should send shivers down the spines of every homeschooling advocate in the nation. Julie was a loving mother of 6 boys, ages 5-15. She raised them with great care for their physical needs, their spiritual wellbeing and their personal development. Eleven character witnesses testified as to this at...

NEWARK, OH (WCMH) — Denver Ham gripped his daughter Riley’s shoulders tight in a protective hug outside Legend Elementary School in Newark. “I couldn’t lose another child,” Ham said, choking back tears. Riley, 7, told her family she had a “bad day” at school on Wednesday. The second-grader said a substitute teacher who called himself “Mr. S.” threatened her class. “He doesn’t deal with bad behavior and said if we act up or do anything that he didn’t tell us, that he would cut our heads off and bury us,” Riley said. Denver Ham, who said his oldest daughter died...
