On August 2, Pope Francis said a few words about gender identity—words that are not at all new with him. In a meeting with bishops that day, he observed: "In Europe, America, Latin America, Africa, and in some countries of Asia, there are genuine forms of ideological colonization taking place. And one of these—I will call it clearly by its name—is [the ideology of] “gender.” [It is, in fact, an artificial construct, as is evident by the co-opting of a word that, in its normative meaning, refers to grammar.] Today children—children!—are taught in school that everyone can choose his or...

The other day I told my five year old boy a secret. I told him it would keep him safe and help him the rest of his life. He sidled up to me and put his ear to my face. I whispered “never, ever, ever, ever, hit a girl.” I made him repeat it. I made him memorize it. Later I asked him “what’s the secret” and he echoed back “never, ever, ever, ever, hit a girl.” There’s a girl in my son’s class, and I think she likes him. At five, it’s hard to tell, but when a girl...

Hopelessly patriarchal. That's how feminists have oft-described the Bible. And they're right. It is patriarchal at the core and through and through. Like love and marriage, the Christian Bible and patriarchy go together: any attempt to dismiss the rule of men must begin by dismissing the Rule of God, i.e., the Holy Bible. For the Scriptures themselves are, in the main, addressed to men. Every thoughtful Christian- man, woman and child- knows quite well that in addressing men, God addresses all. For the male functions as the head in the various covenant spheres, and in addressing them God makes plain...

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, June 24, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Researchers at the University of Michigan have concluded that the love stories told in classic Disney and other G-rated children's films - such as the Little Mermaid - are partially to blame for the pervasiveness of what they label "heteronormativity." "Despite the assumption that children's media are free of sexual content, our analyses suggest that these media depict a rich and pervasive heterosexual landscape," wrote researchers Emily Kazyak and Karin Martin, in a report published in the latest issue of the Sociologists for Women in Society (SWS) publication Gender & Society. Kazyak...

A controversial member of President Barack Obama’s faith-based council said that part of the administration’s role in promoting responsible fatherhood should include moving beyond America’s “heteronormative view of fatherhood.” Harry Knox, appointed last month to the 25-member President’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, has drawn fire for inflammatory comments about the Catholic Church and Pope Benedict XVI. Knox talked about fatherhood and other issues the council would work on in a May 11 PBS interview, which aired two days before a May 13 letter – signed by nearly two dozen prominent Catholics, including House Minority Leader John Boehner...

TEACHERS are being urged to stop using terms such as husband and wife when addressing students or families under a major anti-homophobia push in schools. The terms boyfriend, girlfriend and spouse are also on the banned list - to be replaced by the generic "partner" - in changes sought by the gay lobby aimed at reducing discrimination in classrooms. Schools are coming under pressure to provide lessons for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students and stack their libraries with books and videos covering their issues. Among the demands are the outlawing of homophobic comments by teachers or students in the...

In Oakland, Calif., "marriage," "family values" and "union of a man and a woman" have been deemed hate speech. Here's how it happened: Oakland has anti-discrimination rules protecting homosexuals. In 2002, a letter distributed via the city's e-mail system invited municipal employees to "National Coming-Out Day" activities as part of the city's celebration of diversity and homosexuality. Two workers responded with fliers on employee bulletin boards and elsewhere announcing the formation of the Good News Employee Association for people who oppose "all views which seek to redefine the natural family and marriage." Naturally, a lesbian co-worker was horribly offended and...

Schwarzenegger Squashes Religious Freedom Thomasson: “Arnold Schwarzenegger has two faces. He speaks at churches and says he believes in religious freedom and family values, yet he’s stabbing pro-family Californians in the back.” Sacramento, California – Campaign for Children and Families is shocked and dismayed that California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed SB 1441 (Kuehl). Today’s disastrous action by Schwarzenegger means Christian and other faith-based colleges in California will be forced to promote transsexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality if they accept students with Cal Grants. “People of conscience are appalled that Arnold Schwarzenegger has trampled religious freedom to satisfy hyperactive sexual activists,”...

I guess that you could call this a vanity but it affects everyone in California and beyond! It is CRITICAL that we make our voices heard on this issue! The situation is this: Bill SB 1437, was passed and sent to the governor. It requires all textbooks to be rewritten and reissued at a cost that our school system, not to mention taxpayers, can little afford. They will indoctrinate schoolchildren with a homosexual agenda. The bill requires that all new textbooks (k-12) highlight homosexuals and eliminate all references to mom and dad. The governor is doing a phone poll. Please...

Judge: Legislature, Cities Cannot Fight Gay Rights Lawsuit A judge has decided that the Legislature and several local governments cannot join the fight against a lawsuit seeking taxpayer funded benefits for partners of gay public employees. Dane County Circuit Judge David Flanagan ruled that state law gives the Department of Justice the authority to defend the state's interests. The lawsuit was filed by six lesbian state employees and the American Civil Liberties Union in April. It claims the state's refusal to provide health insurance to their partners violates the equal protection clause of the Wisconsin constitution. Republican State Representative Mark...

Question: Ignoring all legal issues.... Would you care/object if your children's teacher was openly (not flaming) gay? Would it make any difference if the gay teacher was male or female? Would it make any difference if the gay person taught elementary, middle school or high school?

The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is promoting a nationwide push to get students to join in the “Day of Silence” next Wednesday, April 13, to highlight homosexual students 'who suffer in silence.' After the “Day of Silence,” local organizers are now adding, “Breaking the Silence” and having pro-gay speakers talk to students. Sadly, many students (including Christian children!) and teachers are confused about the definition of "tolerance." Gateways has created a handout for students called “Promoting Tolerance.” It helps them understand a biblical definition of tolerance that encourages them to keep their family’s moral values. This flyer can...

March 9, 2005 The Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, Transgender and Supporters Alliance (BGLTSA) of Harvard University is fighting mad. Last week, actress Jada Pinkett Smith won an award from the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations. During her acceptance speech, she told women in the audience, "you can have it all -- a loving man, devoted husband, loving children, a fabulous career … To my men, open your mind, open your eyes to new ideas." Rather sweet, no? Not to the BGLTSA, which called for an apology from the organizers of the Cultural Rhythms show, explaining that Smith's statements were...

ollywood actress Jada Pinkett Smith may have been honored as Artist of the Year Saturday at Harvard University, but her speech ruffled some feathers among the Ivy League school's gay community. The Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, and Supporters Alliance is reportedly taking issue with Smith's remarks as being too specific to heterosexual relationships, according to The Harvard Crimson. ``Some of the content was extremely heteronormative, and made BGLTSA members feel uncomfortable,'' BGLTSA co-chairman Jordan Woods told the Crimson.

Pinkett Smith’s Remarks Debated After some students were offended by Jada Pinkett Smith’s comments at Saturday’s Cultural Rhythms show, the Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, and Supporters Alliance (BGLTSA) and the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations have begun working together to increase sensitivity toward issues of sexuality at Harvard. Students said that some of Pinkett Smith’s remarks concerning appropriate gender roles were specific to heterosexual relationships. In a press release circulated yesterday by the BGLTSA—and developed in coordination with the Foundation—the BGLTSA called for an apology from the Foundation and encouraged future discussion of the issue. According to the...
