The sword was discovered in 2021 by Shlomi Katzin while conducting a study of stone and metal anchors on the seabed. The area was a natural anchorage for ships near Haifa's ancient port city that the Crusaders captured from the Arabs during the early 12th century AD.In a new study published by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), the researchers describe how the sword was found covered in a thick marine concretion of sand and shells, making it difficult to separate the metal without causing damage. However, the concretion slowed down the oxidation process, preserving the sword which would have rusted...

"This is a personal decision where I as an artistic leader take full responsibility of removing and replacing the posters," Thomas Nordanstad said. Israeli Ambassador Zvi Mazel...

Pointing out that a Chinese company will soon start operating Haifa Port, he said that Israel needs to create a mechanism that will examine Chinese investments to ensure that they do not put Israel’s security interests at risk. “When China acquires ports,” Horev said, “it does so under the guise of maintaining a trade route from the Indian Ocean via the Suez Canal to Europe, such as the port of Piraeus in Greece. Does an economic horizon like this have a security impact? We are not weighing that possibility sufficiently. One of the senior American figures at the conference raised...

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday witnessed the demonstration of sea water purification technology pioneered by Israel at a water desalination unit on Olga Beach in Haifa. In what some are dubbing an “arson intifada”, residential Israeli neighborhoods continue to burn or are under threat as wildfires have spread across the nation for the third straight day on Thursday fueled by unseasonably dry weather and exacerbated by strong winds. Fire department spokesman Yoram Levi said the cause of some of the fires is arson. Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan and Israel Police Chief Roni Alsheikh are treating the situation as a national emergency for central and northern Israel. “Every fire caused by arson or by incitement to arson is terrorism in all respects,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. “Anyone attempting...

Birdwatcher Alexander Ternopolsky made a remarkable discovery one day at the archaeological site of Tel Dor on Israel's Carmel Coast -- not a bird, but a rare Egyptian scarab seal. The name of the scarab's owner, his position, and ankh and djed symbols (representing eternal life and stability, respectively) are engraved on the Egyptian scarab seal. In a speech delivered on February 16, Hizbullah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah threatened to attack the Haifa ammonia storage facility in the next war, causing destruction similar to that of a nuclear bomb. Nasrallah mentioned the so-called "Dahiya Doctrine," associated with Israeli Chief of General Staff Eizenkot. Nasrallah quoted an "Israeli expert," who said that such an attack would leave tens of thousands dead. "Several missiles launched from here together with the ammonia containers in Haifa," he said, “would lead to the same impact as a nuclear bomb." Nasrallah added that Hizbullah "does not want war," but must be ready for...

The discussion grew very heated from that point onward, and students demanded to see...

For thousands of years the Jews dreamed of reclaiming their country. The left had another dream. It dreamed of a country run by bureaucrats that worked only three days a week. It dreamed of unions running monopolies that worked whenever they liked and charged whatever they wanted. It dreamed of children raised on collective farms without parents and of government as a Socialist café debate. Most of all it dreamed of a country without conservatives. It still hasn’t gotten that wish. Netanyahu’s victory hit hardest in Tel Aviv where, as Haaretz, the paper of the left, reports, “Leftist, secular Tel...

These tests revealed that the pottery, dating to the Early Chalcolithic period, contained olive oil, the researchers concluded... Of...
