So, there was zero chance that his gun would fall out of his holster or hurt his students and a 100 percent chance that Daniel could defend his students if a gunman breached the school. Teachers in rural Oregon are stunned after the local Sheriff’s Department attempted to test their school’s emergency readiness by sending two masked gunmen into the Pine Eagle Charter School, wearing hoodies and wielding handguns. The event, which took place last Friday during a staff meeting of teachers, was part of a surprise drill conducted by the Sheriff’s Department, aimed at testing “Pine Eagle’s preparation for an assault by ‘active shooters,’ who were in reality volunteer staff members of the school.” The volunteers fired blanks at everyone in the room, “killing” all but two of the teachers. According to local media,...

RUSH: Senator Elizabeth Warren wanted to get in on the big press conference in Boston this morning that happened about 10:30. The first words out of her mouth were praise for Obama and government. "The president of the United States has pledged his full support in all efforts, both to keep the city safe, and to find the person who did this. We did not have to reach out to the president; the president reached out to us," Warren said. He called the governor. He called the mayor. He called the members of congressional delegation because the president is actively...

I know I’m not the only one who remembers how, almost exactly 6 years ago at Virginia Tech, mass-murderer Seung-Hui Cho chained and padlocked the doors to an academic building shut. That was so that he could effectively trap his numerous (32 killed and 23 wounded) , defenseless victims inside – except for the handful who managed to breach and exit second story windows, suffering injuries from falling to the ground – and to keep the responding police outside for long, crucial minutes while he conducted his murderous rampage. Cho knew he’d face no armed opponent once he had his...

The 60 year old man who did the shooting was reported to have a license for the handgun used. A reform of the concealed carry law in Georgia passed the house on 7 March. The bill would reduce but not eliminate a number of gun free zones in the State. People with concealed carry permits would be allowed to exercise their Second Amendment rights in airports outside of the security zone, on college campuses (but not in dormitories or at sporting events), and in government buildings that do not have security. Churches would be allowed a greater exercise of First Amendment rights to freedom of religion and assembly, if arrangements are made in advance. Previously, guns were banned from...

The ugly truth is that gun free zones are not about irrational dreams of safety. They are about power and control. The irrational spouting about safety is just a way to get emotional support from those who don’t really think about the issue. Gun free zones are just another incremental way to move toward total control. The idea is simple: make an example of a place where guns are not allowed, with no rational reason other than “we do not tolerated armed citizens *here*” . This lends legitimacy to the thought that citizens with guns are a bad thing, and...
