Squatters, Looters Overrun Sandy-Ravaged Staten Island Communities
CBS New York ^ | 3/27/13

Posted on 03/28/2013 6:43:54 AM PDT by Kartographer

Staten Island residents already suffering from the ravages of Hurricane Sandy say they are now seeing their neighborhoods infiltrated by squatters and looters.

As CBS 2’s Dick Brennan reported Wednesday, when darkness sets in on Wavecrest Street in New Dorp, people say squatters make their move – crashing empty homes wrecked by the hurricane.

Preppers’ PING!!

It has been 5 months since Sandy and yet there are people right here on FR that insist that if you prep beyond a few days or a couple of weeks you are crazy.

And the people are disarmed by New York gun laws. Otherwise, you could stay in your house and shoot looters like they should be.

Ah, the pleasures of living in liberal hell.

Ok New Yorkers, sooner or later you are going to have to revolt.

Why not now?

Get it over with and perhaps we can all have the pleasure of watching Bloomberg hang.

Again and again (I’ll DVR it.)

Remember when everything that happened in New Orleans after Katerina was President Bush’s fault?

Why, he wanted to kill and starve black people in order to steal elections in the Chocolate City.

Today - barely a peep of what is happening in the NE after Sandy. And certainly no blame for obama.

The massive bias of our press.

Those of us out in flyover country would think so, but the libs are all brain-dead. I’ll never understand it. I hope they enjoy devending what property they have left with a 9-iron.

Unless you are politicaly connected, you can forget about police help, they are there to control and jail the producers, when said producers fail to produce enough to satisy the parasites. Nothing more. The police and politicans are included in the parasite category.

People who are worried about survival shouldn’t live on a street called “Wavecrest”.

When I lived in Los Angeles I knew a guy who commuted from a private enclave inside the Los Padres National Forest. He was worried about the “new age people” in North Carolina who made boys wear girls clothes. Not as wacky a concern now as it seemed then, thirty years ago, but not the biggest thing to worry about.

He showed me a picture of the view from out his front window there in the forest. His front yard was the San Andreas Fault.

Money quote:

“But Sumner said it is not just the squatters, but the looters, too. They have tried to break into his Sandy-ravaged home next to the trailer where he has been living temporarily.

But he said he has managed to fight back, with many different weapons, including a cane, a baseball bat, two rakes, and a stick. When asked if the weapons work, Sumner said they usually do not.

“They usually run away from the big rake, but the baseball bat, they look at you and it’s like, ‘What are you doing? Are you kidding?’” he said.

Staten Island is NY; Christie would do something to stop this because he was elected specifically to stop the flight of white taxpayers to other states.

Sort of like living on a street called "Riverfront" in the South or Midwest.

That was the case in parts of NJ (where vacation homes were destroyed/damaged); a lot of these places in NY are hardly resorts. A lot of damage wasn’t just along the ocean, but along the banks of the rivers that flow into it.

Title correction. “King hussein voters take over Staten Island homes”.(or were they already there?) No problem here. Move along. And to think, most of these areas in the northeast are the cradle of our republic. Sad state of affairs.

“What’s it been 5 months now since Sandy?”

There isn’t money to fix things, and in much of the northeast little incentive to; both NJ & NY recently lost electoral votes because the “legal” population is shrinking. If the illegals want to fix it let them pay for it.

And when Katrina happened, within a week the media and karaoke performers like Kanye West were immediately calling Bush a racist, that he does’t like black people etc etc even though more money was sent down there than money sent to New York city after Sept. 11th 2001. A friend of my father lost his house down there and has been living in hotels ever since and is now broke, and to date he says he hasn’t seen one single solitary cent from anybody despite there supposedly being a “benefit concert” held last year. Where are the calls of “racism”? Where are the George Clooney telethons? Where is Brad Pitt and his house building company? Where is Sean Penn and his photo-ops of him cleaning up the area? Just proves to me all these celebs had only one agenda: To make Bush look as bad as possible. When it’s a Dem POTUS though they are all magically absent.

That is interesting considering the major media is based there in New York. This mess is in their back yard and yet they don’t notice it. But like you mentioned in New Orleans, the media types spent an inordinate time on the struggles of the people there and how the fedgov must pump money in to NOLA to get it back up and running.

Guess since it doesn’t affect them, it is not a problem.

Getting there would require at least a subway ride and a ferry ride. You can't expect them to go to that much effort when they can do stories from the AP wire, do you?

You have to understand that this is a working-class area of Staten Island. Their House representative is a Republican, as is the borough president. Nanny Bloomberg and the elitist blue-staters at the NYTimes couldn’t care less about these people. I feel bad for these people, because these aren’t the “you get what you deserve for voting Democrat” types. On the contrary - the looting and squatting is probably being done by Obama voters.

Sad for sure. My family came from the Hudson/Athens area of NY and had been there since the mid/late 1600’s. Glad my dad left the area when he became a naval officer. Gave me a wider knowledge of the world getting to move around so much. No home town roots though. Sadly, the high density population centers control what goes on just by sheer weight of numbers. Kind of like here in NV. Vegas and all it’s union power make it tough for the rest of the state to have it’s voice heard.

This is what happens when you live in a city where the mayor's main concerns include banning smoking, restricting firearm ownership and prohibiting soft drinks larger than 16 ounces.

For all intents and purposes, history has run its course in New York City and there isn't any future there for independent people with a modicum of ambition.

Major media types live uptown(upper west side-new money) or out on the Long Island. Some live in northern Jersey. None live on Staten Island. That is where the blue collar working class folks live. No self respecting rich liberal would be caught dead there.

Staten Island was for years was where they dumped the garbage from Manhattan. It is one big landfill.

The best in the comment section is, “Don’t tell Big Sis, or she’ll be buying up canes, rakes and baseball bats!”

Maybe the homeowners should start a rumor that squatters are mysteriously disappearing. That should send them scurrying out of the area.

That really got me. I have “several” lethal weapons here in Texas, and that man has nothing to protect himself or his property. The ones doing the squatting and looting know they can do what they want since no one has a weapon that shoots projectiles in their direction. That is sad.

I determined years ago, never buy a house in a subdivision that had “water” of any description in the title. We have “River Plantation” in this county and it floods when there is a lot of rain. I didn’t look there when I was looking for a house to buy because of its name and I was right not to look there.

There’s a community in Orange County, Calif. called Surfside which is prone to flooding during unusually high tides generated by winter storms. In 1953, 1963 and 1983, Surfsiders could go surfing in their own living rooms.
