President Joe Biden once again called for a ban on “assault weapons” and high-capacity magazines, which he referred to as “weapons of war” in an El Paso Times op-ed published Tuesday. The op-ed marked the two-year anniversary of a mass shooting in El Paso, Texas that left 23 people dead.“As we work together to counter the forces of violent hatred, we must also commit to ending the plague of gun violence that steals innocent lives and continues to devastate our communities,” Biden wrote. “I will continue to do everything I can to fight for commonsense gun laws that Americans overwhelmingly...

With record gun sales this last year as police have been ordered to stand down and massive numbers of inmates have been released from jails and prisons, the importation of guns in 2020 also surged by about 60% over the previous year. With an estimated 22.8 million firearms sold last year, 6.4 million, or 28%, of those guns were likely imported. Given the Biden is very likely to impose a ban on the importation of modern sporting rifles, the already tight supply will likely get much worse.

Virginia Second Amendment Sanctuaries in Green, 8 January, 2020 The Virginia bill to ban "assault weapons", HB 961, is highly controversial. It is one of the items credited with bringing over 22,000 Second Amendment supporters to the Virginia Capitol to lobby their legislators. 91 of 95 counties in Virginia have passed Second Amendment sanctuary resolutions, saying they will not comply with such legislation.  The Virginia legislature, with a new Democrat party majority in the House of Representatives (55-45) and the Senate (21-19) and a Democrat Governor, has been energized to pass bills long considered to be outside acceptable limits....

Despite a continued explosion of “gun sanctuaries” in nearly every corner of Virginia, the new Democratic-controlled legislature on Friday took the first step to ban sporting rifles, large-capacity magazines, and suppressors. In a 12-9 vote, the House Public Safety Committee voted to ban “assault weapons” such as the popular AR-15 and AK-47, magazines that hold more than 12 rounds, and sound suppressors effective July 1.~~~SNIP~~~The legislation was amended so that those who own the banned weapons would not have to give them up or register them, but the ban on big magazines and suppressors would stand.

“Assault weapon” under proposed Florida ballot initiative. Courtesy Dean Weingarten The Florida referendum to ban common rifles and shotguns as “assault weapons” has failed to gather enough signatures to appear on the 2020 ballot. From tampabay.com: To make it on the November ballot, organizers had to gather 766,200 verified signatures by today. The organizers fell well short with just 147,304, according to the Secretary of State. 147,304 signatures is a bit more than 19% of the required number.  Signatures are valid for two years. The ban proponents started to gather signatures on 28 November 2018. They have until 27 November 2020,...

Virginia Democrats changed the rules of the General Assembly to ban guns and knives in the state capitol. Nearly all knives are banned as well as any item capable of launching a projectile. There is an exception for folding knives with a blade of less than 3 inches in length. All people entering the capitol, with the exceptions of full-time, on duty, paid law enforcement officers and military personnel, who are conducting official business at the state capitol, are subject to the policy. To enforce the policy, Capitol police are authorized to search and seize all people entering the building, with...

Virginia Democrats have full control of the state government, and they are making the most of it. Less than two days after Virginia opened the 2020 legislative session, newly empowered lawmakers voted to pass a total ban on guns at the state capitol and legislative office buildings. Previously, those with a valid concealed handgun permit were allowed to bring a gun into the Capitol. Weapons were banned only in the Senate gallery and the governor's office. "Our focus is to keep everybody safe," said Democratic House speaker Eileen Filler-Corn. "These are policies and rules that should have passed a long,...

Chart from California DOJ report, cropped and scaled by Dean Weingarten A study of the effects of California's institution of Universal Background Checks, along with a state ban of firearms ownership for people who had committed a violent misdemeanor, has been published in The Annals of Epidemiology, volume 30, February, 2020. The study covered a decade before the laws were passed to a decade after the laws was passed. It found the laws had no effect on firearms homicides or suicides. There is no doubt that Joshua Watson died a hero. The sailor, stationed at Naval Air Station Pensacola as he trained to become a Navy aviator, was shot multiple times by a wanna-be terrorist and Saudi pilot, but managed to escape the classroom where the shooting took place and alert responders to the location of the attack and who was responsible before succumbing to his injuries. One thing Joshua Watson couldn’t do was shoot back, and as Fox News reports, his grieving family is now speaking out in support of allowing members of the military to be armed on base....

Destroying the lie from the national socialist left that ‘no one is talking about gun confiscation’.Joy Behar, Robert Francis ‘Beto’ O’Rouke and Representative Eric ‘nukem’ Swawell (D-CA) epitomise the mendacity of the left in demanding gun confiscation while denying that they are demanding gun confiscation. Like many others of the national socialist left, they want to push for their final solution to the liberty problem while still pretending to be ‘liberal’, using all manner of soft sounding synonyms for the taking of the people’s property. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) loves to talk on this subject, but according to him, anyone...

Virginia lawmakers are now considering a state law banning the ownership of certain semi-automatic guns deemed “assault firearms” and limiting the magazine capacity of other firearms in the state — and there are no clauses that would allow existing owners to continue possessing them. Virginia state Sen. Richard Saslaw introduced SB16, which would expand the definition of an “assault firearm” to cover many different semi-automatic rifles and pistols. The bill would call for the ban of such firearms, barring people from purchasing, possessing, selling or transferring those weapons. Among the changes in firearm definitions, the bill would expand the term...

Violent crimes cases across Boulder County surged from 2013 to 2018, a trend that corresponds with a rising number of felony case filing across the state. According to Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty, state felony case filings spiked nearly 45% in five years. In Boulder County, the majority of new felony case filings were for violent crimes, which saw a 32% increase from 2013 to 2018. ... Violent crimes include cases that involve assault, robbery, vehicular homicide, crimes against at-risk individuals, bias-motivated crimes, murder, attempted murder and stalking. In Boulder County, Dougherty said domestic violence is the county’s most...

On 15 March 2019, a political terrorist attacked two mosques located in Christchurch, New Zealand. He killed 51 people and wounded many more. The far-left government of Jacinda Ardem immediately set on a course to ban semi-automatic firearms in New Zealand. Those opposed were shouted down. The government censor worked hard to keep the public from reading the manifesto published by the terrorist. That conveniently prevented people from knowing that gun confiscation was one of his goals. When academic John Lott pointed this out on Twitter, he was banned.Initial reports were few guns were being turned in, partly because...

In a recent video on politics at wtsp.com, the station plays quotes from the Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and the Chair of Ban Assault Weapons Now, Gail Schwartz. The Attorney General says the initiative is deliberately deceptive, a trick. Schwartz says the AG is lying.  From wtsp.com: In a letter to the court submitted Friday, Moody called the language in the proposed amendment “misleading,” saying the court should move to keep the matter from voters. She argues that the proposal goes far beyond banning so-called assault weapons and could also ban the possession of all semi-automatic long guns....

New Zealand's Prime Minister has proposed extreme new controls on gun ownership for the country. They are explicitly designed to move gun ownership in New Zealand from a right to a privilege. The Prime Minister is attempting to follow the Australian playbook on imposing extreme restrictions on gun ownership. Kiwis are standing by their guns. Citizens of New Zealand are reportedly resisting the sweeping ban on semi-automatic firearms thrust upon them by an emotional parliament last April. The Washington Post’s article is predictably poorly-titled: “New Zealand is trying to buy back the military-style weapons it banned in April. It’s not so easy.” Firstly, no entity can buy “back” something which it never owned before. The government has never owned these firearms which it seeks to steal from their rightful owners. They are merely offering a bribe to those who comply. Secondly, none of the guns are “military-style.” Being black...

After the terrorist attack on radical Mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, the far left government of Jacinda Ardern pushed through new, radical gun laws. The laws had the full support of nearly all media in the anglosphere. The laws were pushed through, as usual, by people who knew almost nothing of firearms or firearms technology. They were pushed through based on emotion and one political act of terrorism. The perpetrator accurately predicted this to be a consequence of his actions. It appeared the laws would be somewhat less severe than those pushed through in somewhat similar circumstances in Australia, in...
