My FIL was adjudicated mentally incompetent to handle his own affairs and to care for himself. He was seriously incapacitated from years of hard drinking. He'd start drinking beer in the morning and progress to Crown Royal at night until he'd pass out. A drinking buddy came into his house and found him in the tub unable to get out. He was transported to the ER and hit DTs that night. He hallucinated for a couple of days, but clearly was suffering dementia after that. He's been in a lockdown unit nursing home ever since but has recovered a lot....

Currently, Saudi women still require the approval of a male relative or spouse to obtain a passport, travel outside Saudi Arabia, or even study abroad. It’s a patriarchal system controlling women’s lives that has left the kingdom out of step with the rest of the world for decades. But the country is set to end those travel restrictions. Saudi newspaper Okaz recently announced that the government has formed a committee to review “ending guardianship of a minor at the age of 18,” discontinuing a system that has treated adult women functionally and legally as minors for their entire lives. ...They...

If there is one group of people liberals hate more than conservatives and libertarians, it has to be Veterans. These brave men and women have risked their lives many becoming maimed or injured in the process of protecting our God given freedom and liberty. Is it any wonder that liberals hate them so much? Returning overseas these days veterans wont come back to find grateful godly Americans but instead America hating hippies and socialists who will spit on them and curse them for daring to fight against a nation that murders its own people for the public good and that...

His sentence: a court-appointed guardianship on the brink of costing him everything he spent his life building.

The Florida State Guardianship Association has chosen Michael Schiavo as its "Distinguished Guardian of the Year" for 2005, outraging many in the pro-life community. Schiavo is the former husband of Terri Schiavo, the brain-injured Florida woman whose life ended March 31 by court-ordered dehydration at her husband's request. While admitting that Schiavo was a "controversial choice," Michelle Kenney, president-elect of the association told the Associated Press that her group decided to bestow the honor on Schiavo because of his "commitment" to honoring what he claimed was his wife's wish "not to be kept alive artificially." "We see a lot of...

Mother Battles Daughter-In-Law For Son's Guardianship POSTED: 6:54 pm EDT June 17, 2005 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 34-year-old Jacksonville man is at the center of a legal tug of war between his wife and mother. Scott Thomas suffered severe brain damage in September 2004 and has been in and out of the hospital ever since. For months, there has been a question of who should be in charge of his care. On Friday, that question was partially answered. Scott Thomas Thomas requires a feeding tube to survive and needs constant medical supervision. His mother, Pamela Patton, is her son's legal...

Judicial aftershocks from the Schiavo case Perceptions of how the courts handled the case could have ramifications for Bush's judicial nominees. WASHINGTON – In the end, as Terri Schiavo clung to life in her Florida hospice after nearly two weeks without food or water, 12 years of legal battles came down to one final appeal. In a 15-page emergency brief, lawyers asked the US Supreme Court to vindicate Ms. Schiavo's constitutional right to life. The high court's answer came Wednesday around 11 p.m. Application denied. Ten hours later, Schiavo passed away. In the emotional moments after the announcement, pro-life and...

By the time you read this, chances are that Terri Schiavo will be dead. In a land of plenty, where her parents are more than willing to feed her, where millions of thoughtful and concerned citizens have campaigned for her continued provision of sustenance, she is nonetheless condemned to wither away, literally, by a method that would be considered cruel and unusual punishment when applied to the worst of serial rapist-murderers: starvation. Private money and time has been volunteered to support her; Bob and Mary Schindler, Ms. Schiavo’s parents, have, in a blatant display of statist intrusion, been denied the...

If the public knew how horrible the abuse of the elderly is, there would be be articles everyday. Since we started this site, we're receiving articles and stories from everywhere. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” “The opposite of love is not hate, but indifference; the opposite of beauty is not ugliness, but indifference; the opposite of learning is not ignorance, but indifference; Hatred cannot be anything but evil. Hatred contaminates me. We cannot give in to hatred; To preserve humanity we must fight...

TAMPA, Fla. - (KRT) - Two dark scenarios haunt Jay Wolfson even now, a year and a half after his brief appointment to be a neutral arbiter, a guardian, an unbiased observer, the one man asked by the state of Florida to stand in Terri Schiavo's shoes. One is that the severely brain-damaged woman is in a terrible lightless place, aware of nothing but a yawning, endless hopelessness. The other is that even though he never elicited a response from her, despite all the pleading and cajoling he did at her bedside, that he might have missed some subtle, nearly...

Clearwater, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The family of Terri Schiavo, on Tuesday, filed a contempt of court motion against Terri's estranged husband Michael. They say he is once again withholding information from them concerning Terri's medical condition, in violation of a 1996 court order. Last week, Terri began vomiting and Terri's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, asked nursing and hospice staff what had caused it and what measures were being taken to treat Terri. Terri is currently living at Park Place Assisted Living Facility in Clearwater, Florida, and staff at the facility told the Schindlers that they were under orders from...

Pinellas Park, FL (LifeNews.com) -- A local judge will not reappoint a Stetson University law professor who was previously selected as guardian ad litem for Terri Schiavo. Professor Jay Wolfson was selected for the position after the state legislature passed Terri's Law. Charged with evaluating Terri's condition, Wolfson claimed Terri is in a persistent vegetative state, though numerous doctors and specialists disagree with his conclusion. Wolfson also said that she deserved to be given a swallowing test to see if she can eat and drink on her own before a decision is made to remove her feeding tube another time....

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - A state circuit judge Wednesday refused to block an effort by the parents of a brain-damage woman to try to get her husband removed as her legal guardian. Attorneys for Michael Schiavo now have to respond in court to charges in the petition that he withheld proper care and therapy from his wife, Terri Schiavo, and that he has a conflict of interest because he's in a romantic relationship with another woman. Bob and Mary Schindler, parents of Terri Schiavo, asked Circuit Judge George W. Greer to appoint Terri's brother or sister as guardian instead. Schiavo...
