In the last five years, the Hawaiian emergency alarm system mistakenly went off two different times, causing panic among residents. This week, the system fell short yet again but in a profound way — there was never a warning to the community about the latest wildfires set ablaze on the island of Maui. zp> Most survivors had little warning of the gaining fire until they smelled smoke or saw flames, reported The Associated Press. Dustin Kaleiopu, a resident of the city of Lahaina that’s in ruins, left his home with his grandfather when smoke started coming through the window,...

The fire, which started Wednesday evening in the community of Bay Point, apparently was caused by an electrical power line that fell, according to Chevron Pipe Line Company, which operates the threatened pipeline. said it shut down the gas line and worked with firefighters to evacuate the area as a precaution. The company is “working to reduce pressure in the at-risk gas line,” and the venting is producing a loud shrieking noise “that has been described as a jet-engine-like sound” coming from a pipeline facility in the nearby community of Antioch, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said. “This...

A fast-moving grass fire burning in southeastern New Mexico is threatening an oil refinery and several other structures. Authorities said the wind-driven fire broke out Monday morning near Lovington. It has jumped two state highways and has charred an estimated 25,000 acres of private and state land. State Forestry spokesman Dan Ware said firefighters were trying to the stop the blaze at New Mexico Highway 18. If the flames jump that road, several more structures could be threatened.

Obama/Waxman push $3,100 per-family tax by Memorial Day! From the Desk of: Steve Elliott, President, Grassfire.org Alliance Our sources are telling me that President Obama and Rep. Henry Waxman are pushing for a key vote on the Carbon Tax BEFORE Memorial Day -- a tax that studies show will cost each family $3,100 each and every year. Last week, Obama met behind closed doors with House Democrats to pressure them to pass the Carbon Tax. Now, Waxman is even contemplating skipping the Subcommittee hearing on the $2 trillion Carbon Cap and Trade Tax and fast-tracking this new tax straight to...

The Resistance States: As an American citizen, while I will show respect to President-elect Obama, I oppose the far-Left and socialistic elements that comprise the centerpiece of his agenda. I recognize that it will take a patriotic and resilient Citizen Resistance to block implementation of this agenda and I join with others who oppose these threats to our liberties. Specifically, I Resist: 1. Socialistic wealth redistribution including any and all tax increases and big-government welfare programs. 2. Open border anarchy including amnesty for illegal aliens and promotion of multi-nation “unions”. 3. Weakening of our military through rapid pullback from Iraq,...

Click here to sign In a backroom deal just prior to the Christmas break, Congress passed the omnibus Appropriations bill which included the Hutchison Amendment that gutted the Secure Fence Act. Her amendment essentially guaranteed that the DHS didn't have to build the fence! For more click here. After Grassfire broke the "Secure Fence Hoax", key members of Congress took action in an effort to "undo" what the Hutchison amendment did, by restoring deadlines and double fence mandate for the entire 854 miles of border. Former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) overwhelmingly leads the race of Republican presidential candidates, according to a new nationwide poll of conservatives. But Democrats are calling Thompson's presidential bid "less than stellar." A poll conducted last week of 39,000 conservatives by the grassroots organization Grassfire.org found that conservatives favor Thompson by a greater than 2-to-1 margin over his nearest competitor, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. When asked whom they would vote for if the Republican primary were held today, 28 percent of respondents preferred Thompson. Romney gained 14 percent of the vote -down two percent from May. "It seems conservatives want...

Web groups claim victory in bill defeatBy AMY LORENTZEN Associated Press Writer Posted on Fri, Jun. 29, 2007 DES MOINES, Iowa --Online groups took credit Friday for leading the grass-roots opposition against an immigration reform bill, saying they persuaded Americans to flood Congress with hundreds of thousands of phone calls, faxes and e-mails. "We think it was a rising tide of citizen response that forced the senators to stop and consider what the American people were saying, and what the American people were saying was they didn't like this bill," said Steve Elliott, president of Grassfire.org, headquartered in tiny Maxwell,...

A conservative grass-roots organization has gathered nearly 40,000 signatures since Wednesday on a petition to be sent to President Bush on behalf of two Border Patrol agents convicted of violating a drug smuggler's civil rights. Two of the jurors who convicted the agents also are expressing misgivings about the verdict, saying they were pressured by other jury members and the prosecution to reach a quick decision in the case. Grassfire, a nonprofit organization that uses online petitions to affect legislation, has created a special Web link and letter to President Bush for Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, who were...

I do not agree with this author's criticisms of the pro-troop movement. It seems to me that if we took his advice and sat back and were silent, the media would still promote Cindy Sheehan and there would NEVER be any coverage of the fact that a growing number of Americans are willing to step forward and tell the anti-war contingent their actions are not supported and are harmful to our nation, our troops and their missions in the war against terrorism. For years, liberals have accused conservatives of "hate speech." But at the same time, many on the Left have often blasted Republicans and conservatives as Nazis. Now, two controversial online ads comparing President Bush to Adolph Hitler have led to heavy criticism - including criticism from Jewish groups. The two 30-second ads appeared in a contest sponsored by the liberal online website, www. moveon.org. Moveon invited members to submit spots criticizing President Bush's record. Moveon was founded in 1998 to oppose the impeachment of President Clinton, and now claims 1.7 million members, bashing President Bush and pushing liberal causes. Two...
