It is true that a trade deficit subtracts from a country’s gross domestic product. G.D.P. measures the value of goods and services produced within a country’s borders, so when a country is selling less stuff abroad than it buys from abroad, the country is making less stuff, and as a result there are fewer jobs. This piece of the Trump theory of trade is true. Read the rest in the link.

The latest Wisconsin poll conducted by Public Policy Polling shows a virtually even race between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Cruz leads Trump by just one percentage point in the poll. The margin is much closer than a recent Marquette poll that showed Cruz with a 10 percentage point lead. The Public Policy poll also showed John Kasich supporters are more likely to support Cruz than Trump.

In a moment that seemed to stun even moderator Anderson Cooper, Donald Trump named federal involvement in education and health care as top functions of the federal government, along with national security, at the Milwaukee candidates forum in Milwaukee last night. Apparently unaware that conservatives believe that a federal role in education is unjustified, and that many, including Ted Cruz, want to abolish the Department of Education, and that federal involvement in health care is anathema to his party’s base, Trump spoke of both as among the top three priorities for the feds. Putting on his surprised face, Cooper...

What the heck is wrong with us? On Wednesday, Washington, D.C.’s entire Metro subway system shut down with almost no notice to perform emergency inspections, just days after a cable fire “crippled” three lines. The nation’s second-busiest rail system has been plagued by safety problems in recent years, including a 2015 incident where smoke from an electrical malfunction killed one person and a deadly 2009 crash on the system’s Red Line that killed nine people. And with a new Metro chief that has been vocal about returning to a culture that puts safety first, many say that Wednesday’s move is...

Let me explain something in all of you should follow this link and actually read the Republican Rule Book as it is online and available. There has been some intrigue taking place behind the scenes in the GOPliters, and you have witnessed reports of John Kasich and Ted Cruz bribery of delegates in states to steal the from Donald Trump. That is what is taking place, along with the stunning news of Rule 40b no longer applies to this convention in a delegate must win 8 states to be in the nomination process, and this after it was sworn to...

Well, Happy Easter as we worship our risen Savior. In all this election fray, it’s a good time to remember the Book of Daniel which talks about who is really in charge - repeated four times. Only has to say it once but apparently we need a lot of reminders. “the most High rules in the kingdom of men; and he will give it to whoever it pleases him, and he will appoint the basest man over it” (Dan 4:14). “the most High rules over the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever he will” (Dan 4:22). “the most...

At [the Jan 14, 2016] GOP debate, Senator Marco Rubio accused Ted Cruz of sneaking a value-added tax (VAT) into his tax reform plan. RUBIO: Here is the one thing I’m not going to do. I’m not going to have something that Ted described in his tax plan. It’s called the value-added tax. And it’s a tax you find in many [countries] in Europe. … CRUZ: Well, Marco has been floating this attack for a few weeks now, but the problem is, the business flat tax in my proposal is not a VAT. A VAT is imposed as a sales...

Freepers, would like your opinion. Should selection of a state's candidate by caucus be a thing of the past? Does it truly reflect how the majority of people in the state would vote?

Senator Bernie Sanders, presidential candidate and America’s leading socialist, announced today that he would be introducing a bill to make college “free” for students seeking bachelor degrees. Had Milton Friedman been alive today, he would have no doubt thrown cold water on Sanders’ proposal. First, he would have likely addressed the fallacy known as the free lunch myth. You can watch him do so below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZMxvlKxyk0 Secondly, and more specifically, he would have discussed the economics of higher education. You can watch him do so below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3-_r_t7AZU It’s unfortunate that there isn’t a conservative/libertarian intellectual with the communication skills of...

Once upon a time there lived a man. Not just any ordinary man, this was a very great man, in his mind the greatest, ever; and he would let you and everybody else know it too. He was an alpha male named Nimrod and he was a mighty hunter in defiance of God. The time was long ago, before the people of the earth were divided into different peoples and nations; and all the people of the earth were one. The people, however, had become disillusioned and insecure in their existence; and they were afraid of things they feared would...

None of us should ever rest in peace while authorities get away with calling incidents where ranchers, with whom they have ongoing disputes, cut down in a blaze of bullets, “routine traffic stops”. ..LaVoy Finicum was only one rancher, a citizen trying to eke out a living in a livelihood the government is making all but impossible with the smothering red tape of bureaucracy. And that’s why his death that came as he was standing knee-high in the Oregon snow is all the more unforgettably tragic. After being shot down in cold blood—as he was clearly signaling to armed federal...

Whether it’s here in the United States or across Europe, immigration has become a flashpoint in policy discussions. Legitimate concerns are expressed over factors ranging from potential competition for jobs or resources to feed the needy, to worries about terrorists crossing borders in the guise of desperate refugees. Liberal thinkers frequently deride such concerns, labeling those who utter them as “xenophobes†or racists. If you happen to publish any material questioning or criticizing generous immigration policy or loose restrictions here in America you can expect to come under attack by opponents all across the media spectrum. Fortunately, that’s pretty...
