From the analysis of the intestinal contents of the 5,200-year-old Iceman from the Eastern Alps, Professor James Dickson from the University of Glasgow in the UK and his team have shed some light on the mummy's lifestyle and some of the events leading up to his death. By identifying six different mosses in his alimentary tract, they suggest that the Iceman may have travelled, injured himself and dressed his wounds. The Iceman is the first glacier mummy to have fragments of mosses in his intestine. This is surprising as mosses are neither palatable nor nutritious and there are few reports...

Four villagers in north-east Kenya have chased down and captured two cheetahs which were killing their goats. The owner of the goats told the BBC that the cheetahs had been picking off his animals one by one, day by day. The men waited until the hottest part of the day before launching the chase over a distance of four miles (6.4km). The cheetahs got so tired they could not run any more. The villagers captured them alive and handed them over to the Kenya Wildlife Service.

CHICAGO -- Goats that previously appeared at Chicago's Wrigley Field were alive and kicking. But not Wednesday, when a goat's head was left in a box outside the home of the Cubs. The box was addressed to team chairman Tom Ricketts. Ricketts is currently in negotiations with city officials and neighborhood business people about the $300 million renovation of Wrigley Field.

"The prudent man does not make the goat his gardener," says an old Hungarian proverb. But, as I do not live my life according to old Hungarian proverbs, six years ago I added a goat paddock and shed to the rear of my garden and brought home two small dairy goats. The idea took hold of me rather suddenly while I was visiting an acquaintance in Nevada City. She kept goats, and I got to milk one and taste its fresh milk. It tasted ... good! Surprised? I was too. But I learned that goat milk from the store often...

Yesterday evening I tramped on down to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo for the annual “Celebrity Goat Milking Contest.” This proves not that I am a celebrity — far from it — but rather that I am a good sport. The real purpose here is not the milking of goats, but rather a clever way in which the the annual rodeo milks the media for coverage. In this case, it dubs us “celebrities” and we come to take pictures of cute goats and ourselves. So here’s me and my goat, Skeeter. Now you’re probably wondering about the scientific approach...

This may be the cheesiest story you’ll read all day—literally. That’s because 27 metric tons of flaming goat cheese burned inside a Norwegian road tunnel, closing nearly two miles of the road for six days. Brunost, a Norwegian cheese considered a delicacy, was being shipped in a truck that caught fire. No one was hurt in the incident, which firefighters were finally able to put out on Monday.

It’s an odd tradition that adds a dose of suspense to the holiday season. Every year, a giant straw goat is erected in the town of Gävle, Sweden, and every year, arsonists try to burn it down. A local resident explains that this delights many townspeople. The tradition began in 1966, when the first Christmas goat was built in downtown Gävle to attract shoppers. On New Year’s Eve, a pyromaniac set it alight, and was later caught. Since then, the goat has been burnt down 26 times; more often than not, the perpetrators are never identified. This year, though firemen...

STOCKHOLM—Not even a layer of ice was enough to keep three people from torching the giant straw goat in a Swedish town where the annual challenge of charring it to the ground has become an unusual Christmas tradition for vandals. The 13-meter (43 foot) high and 3.6 ton heavy straw goat in the Swedish town of Gavle, meant to symbolize the seasonal spirit, was engulfed in flames for the 26th time overnight Thursday after the assailants crossed the fence surrounding it before setting it on fire.

When cadet Roberto Becerra Jr. walked onstage to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2007, the entire ceremony ground to a halt as he, before a crowd of thousands, transformed into a goat. For this achievement, Mr. Becerra received a rousing ovation and was handed an envelope stuffed with cash. In a 210-year-old military academy bristling with traditions, "the goat" is a curious custom that one might not expect to find at a school better known for its selectivity and high standards. Yet every year, the last-ranking cadet to make it through to graduation is...
