Quick note: I have decided to check out from the wonderful world of social media, and this FB will be self-destructing soon. If you want to stay in touch you can ping me at davidburge at comcast dot net. Cheers! Link I've had some folks ask me to elaborate, so here goes... 1. no, nobody paid me the million bucks. 2. no, it had nothing to do with the Sam Wang twitter thing. Fact is this has been on my to-do list for some time. I've never been paid for anything I've done online, nor have I wanted to. Even...

Last week's pool was great, thanks to you. My website, Not for Liberals has a poll every two weeks to select your favorite thought about conservative values. Last week's favorite, was: "The Second Amendment: a Matter of Fact, Not A Matter of Opinion. Please click on the vote button. Come back to the home page and select a category to see a random quote from that category. Repeat. Thank You By the way, I put a link to Free Republic on the home page, for those who have not been there before.

It has been reported by Mark17 that his brother-in-law WVKayaker passed away on August 8, 2016. Mark17 wrote: His full name was Walter Page Noe. He preferred to be called Page. I havenÂ’t looked at his profile page lately, but he probably has some pictures on it, with his wife Marlene. She is my sister in law, as my lovely wife Menierva, is her younger sister....

The flood of “fake news” this election season got support from a sophisticated Russian propaganda campaign that created and spread misleading articles online with the goal of punishing Democrat Hillary Clinton, helping Republican Donald Trump and undermining faith in American democracy, say independent researchers who tracked the operation. Russia’s increasingly sophisticated propaganda machinery — including thousands of botnets, teams of paid human “trolls,” and networks of websites and social-media accounts — echoed and amplified right-wing sites across the Internet as they portrayed Clinton as a criminal hiding potentially fatal health problems and preparing to hand control of the nation to...

Dan Rather took to Facebook on Friday to offer words of wisdom and hope as he reflected on the end of an election "with its bitter partisan divide and often irresponsible rhetoric, that threatens to crumble some of the foundations of our democratic institutions."

Everyone please send whatever you are able to, whether it is $10, $100 or $1,000+. The otherwise mourning DUmmies, Morons, Kos Kiddies and that crew are probably laughing up their sleeves. Jim may have to make this site members only or allow ads. Better for us to just help with what we can. Maybe you can donate as a memorial for a lost loved one, a servicemember who never made it home or was disabled defending our country. Perhaps you'd like to give to keep free discussion alive and to show them that we're not knuckling under. I'm sure a...

FR did a GREAT job of staying online and loading quickly during the election.

One last Vanity post to say Thank You to FreeRepublic.com as well as the regulars who come to this site and keep it alive all year 'round. First of all, I did donate to the site a few days ago because I am NOT a regular, but I certainly have spent a lot of time here lately. I encourage all people like me, who may not be a regulars but who have been here somewhat religiously lately, to leave some gratitude behind in the form of a cash donation. It is easy to do. I also say thank you to...

One For The History Books… In the wee hours of Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, we'll finally see the outcome of what's been the weirdest Presidential election in United States history. Depending on your view of the true power of the Presidency, the next four years will either see a jarring fork in policy or a lot of sound and fury signifying same-old-same-old. Interestingly, the Never-Trumpers are licking their chops at a Hillary Clinton Presidency forced to square off against a Republican Congress. If Trump wins, there is a chance for a same-old-same-old Presidency. You probably know this, Donald Trump being the...

I thought it might be interesting to see how many mentions of FreeRepublic there are in Hillary's, Podesta's, the DNC's, etc. emails. So, here's what we have so far.. more Podesta batches going up every day... and who knows what else. Podesta: 6 emails in 5 chains. All during 2008... none later. The link titled, "See help for more information" just above the text input box for replies is a dead link. Clicking it does absolutely nuffin'. (This has been my experience for what seems several months using Apple's Safari browser and other browsers.)

President Barack Obama is again complaining about conservative media, accusing it of creating candidate Donald Trump. “Trump didn’t come out of nowhere now,” Obama said during a campaign speech in Miami. “For years, Republican politicians and far-right media outlets had just been pumping out all kinds of toxic, crazy stuff.” Obama employed a straw man attack against conservative media, accusing them of starting “the whole birther thing” and calling climate change a “Chinese hoax.” “According to them, I’m powerful enough to cause these hurricanes, and I’m about to steal everybody’s guns in the middle of the night and declare martial...

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is reportedly investigating. The attack raised fears that this could be a trial run for an attempt at a major disruption of the U.S. presidential election. While many of the websites affected by the first attack, which hit the East Coast, are back up, sites hosted on the West Coast, including Twitter and Recode, have been hit, and were unavailable for many as of 11 a.m. Friday. As of 11 a.m., Dyn’s online update about its response to the attacks said the company was continuing to “investigate and mitigate.” The outages appear to have resulted...

This keeps happening on and off and it's driving me crazy. When I click on someone's name to find their comment history - either with a search on "user", or going to their profile page and clicking "in forum", I see one page of comments. Then when I click on "next page", I am taken to the page of articles they've posted. It's important to be able to see peoples' posting history sometimes - looking for a specific comment, or on a thread, or checking for trollhood either with comment tone/topic, or posting history. I was just now looking up...
