It looks like Beats by Dre have been, well, beat. The days of NFL football players and coaches sporting the popular headphones during televised interviews are over for now. This is the result of an exclusive agreement between audio equipment company Bose and the NFL itself. Re/code reports that the agreement bans players and coaches from wearing any other headphones during televised interviews and during games.

Depending on whom you ask, Jerome Baker, a senior at Benedictine High School here, is either the highest- or the second-highest-rated football prospect in Ohio from the class of 2015. He is a four-star linebacker, appraised from 36th to 72nd nationally. Columbus is a little more than a two-hour drive from Baker’s home, and his parents, Jerome Sr. and Theodora, are Ohio State fans. Baker received a recruitment flyer from the university that featured a picture of the basketball superstar LeBron James, a fellow northeast Ohioan, and a quotation: “If I had one year of college, I would have ended...

Husain Abdullah is a devout Muslim. He’s also a safety for the Chiefs, and he made a promise to himself if he ever did find himself in the end zone. “If I get a pick, I’m going to prostrate before God in the end zone,” Abdullah said. Early in the fourth quarter, Abdullah dropped deep in a zone coverage, read Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s eyes and broke hard, intercepting his pass...

Michigan should fire head coach Brady Hoke tomorrow. Entering the 2014 season, there were multiple columns written by members of the media and opinions voiced by fans that Hoke was on one of the hottest seats in America. After earning an 11-2 record and a Sugar Bowl victory in his debut season in 2011, Hoke's Wolverines had won only 15 games total in 2012 and 2013 and appeared to be regressing after dropping five of their final six contests last season. Their general conclusion was that Hoke would be relieved of his duties at the end of this season if...

Let the Band Play Dixie! Hello America! Did you know that Roger Staubach—one of the greatest NFL Quarterbacks of all times—last played for Coach Tom Landry and the Dallas Cowboys in 1979? I’ve never been one for spirit—team or school. I went to Wayne State University in Detroit, and I had to Google what the team nickname was. It used to be the “Tartars,” not just a sauce but an ancient tribe. But it apparently was changed in 1999 to “Warriors.” I was there from 1996 till 2000, but I had no idea what it was before and wasn’t aware that it changed. But to many their “team” is way of life, their love and loyalty, their “gang.” I just don’t get it. In high school, when I saw friends or coworkers...

Tony ManfredSeptember 24, 2014Anonymous NFL scouts ripped into Jameis Winston after he was suspended for the Clemson game for jumping on a table and reciting a profanity-laced meme. The Florida State quarterback, who has faced a slew of off-field controversies over the last 12 months, was considered the best player in the 2015 NFL Draft by ESPN and CBS as recently as August. Now NFL talent evaluators have their doubts. One scout told Albert Breer of the NFL Network that he was a "fraud." He's presumably referring to reports that Winston lied about his table-jumping incident in his original meeting...
