An NFL player is one of three victims targeted by a pair of women who deputies say tricked men, then drugged and robbed them in the Orlando area. The string of incidents took place during Pro Bowl weekend. Authorities are looking for the two women, who were captured on surveillance footage. “We don’t know if they were acting together or separately, but they were targeting men who were wearing expensive watches and jewelry,” Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jane Watrel said. On Jan. 26, Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Quinton Spain and a few of his teammates went to Vyce Lounge...

Mayor Gillum Image from Youtube In Florida, the State government has chosen to protect residents rights to keep and bear arms by restricting the actions that local governments can take. This is call preemption, and it means that only the State can pass laws restriction the carry, possession, and use of guns. It insures that the laws regarding guns and firearms use are uniform across the state. People exercising their right to keep and carry weapons will not have to guess about whether they are violating an obscure local ordinance when they cross some unmarked local boundary. Every state...

A central Florida sheriff's deputy has resigned after body camera video apparently showed him taking money from a man's wallet while arresting him on suspicion of DUI. John Braman stepped down Monday after body cam video of the Aug. 1 incident clearly showed the deputy going through what appears to be a wallet and tossing something out. The wallet is put in an evidence pouch and a $100 bill is visible nearby. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood says they've had several complaints recently about Braman stealing money from the wallets of people he arrested. Chitwood calls Braman a "thieving idiot."

Faced with ever-increasing traffic jams, South Florida's public officials have come up with a plan: Make it worse. Instead of fixing the problem, government officials are deliberately adding to it in hopes we'll all walk, ride the bus or take the train. "Until you make it so painful that people want to come out of their cars, they're not going to come out of their cars," Anne Castro, chair of the Broward County Planning Council, said during a meeting last year. "We're going to make them suffer first, and then we're going to figure out ways to move them after...

Fearing a loss of millions of dollars for defying immigration authorities, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez on Thursday ordered county jails to comply with federal immigration detention requests — effectively gutting the county’s position as a “sanctuary” for immigrants in the country illegally. Gimenez cited an executive order signed Wednesday by President Donald Trump that threatened to cut federal grants for any counties or cities that don’t cooperate fully with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Since 2013, Miami-Dade has refused to indefinitely detain inmates who are in the country illegally and wanted by ICE — not based on principle, but because the...

The tribesmen have removed 13 pythons in just over a week, including a 16-foot-long femaleFlorida wildlife officials have recruited tribesmen from India in the state's ongoing hunt for Burmese pythons. Irula tribesmen are well-known in southern India for their snake-catching. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission hopes they'll reveal something that has long eluded researchers: a reliable way to track and spot the tan, splotchy snakes that all but disappear in the Everglades. One of the commission's exotic species experts, Kristen Sommers, said in a statement Monday that the state hopes the tribesmen can teach people in Florida some...

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – An 18-year veteran of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested on numerous charges, including attempted murder. Sheriff Knight said allegations that Frankie Eugene Bybee, 46, was harassing a 79-year-old woman led to an investigation into the deputy’s actions. Sheriff Knight asserted Bybee took care of the elderly woman’s dog, visited her in the hospital and introduced her to his family – all in an effort to gain her trust. “His actions are a disgrace not only to this agency, but to the law enforcement profession,” said Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight. The initial...

What Judas snakes, snake-sniffing dogs and even hunters from around the globe have struggled to accomplish may finally be pulled off by a pair of singing snake catchers from India: solving the riddle for finding Burmese pythons in Florida's Everglades. In just two weeks this month, the two tribesmen from Southern India, working with theUniversity of Florida, caught 14 pythons. That included a monster 16-foot female holed up in the ruins of the old Nike missile base on Key Largo. Irula trackers and biologists discovered this 16-foot female python, along with three other snakes, holed up in a 27-foot long,...
