A central Florida sheriff's deputy has resigned after body camera video apparently showed him taking money from a man's wallet while arresting him on suspicion of DUI.
John Braman stepped down Monday after body cam video of the Aug. 1 incident clearly showed the deputy going through what appears to be a wallet and tossing something out. The wallet is put in an evidence pouch and a $100 bill is visible nearby.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood says they've had several complaints recently about Braman stealing money from the wallets of people he arrested. Chitwood calls Braman a "thieving idiot."

Why wasn’t he arrested and thrown in jail? Is there some kind of “professional courtesy” among thieving cops?

There are many honest cops we should all applaud. But there are crooked ones too. And it doesn’t take many to do you a whole lotta damage if they ever stop you for anything even minor vehicular problems.

Resigned != arrested.
Anyone else stealing money as he did would have been charged with petty theft at least. He shouldn’t get to just walk away.

How many drug confiscation has he taken part in.
Well known practice along the I 95 corridor in Fl is to skim apart of the stash and only report the amount that will get a conviction.
I had a neighbor in Broward get pulled over and snagged with a large amount of blow and when it came time to face the judge the amount was a fraction of what he was holding.
Gee wonder what happened to the remainder ?

The ex-officer is an idiot. He could have shot someone and gotten time off with pay. Now he’s got to go find work.

They will try to force him to resign first as a type of plea deal. If they fire and arrest him there's a good chance he will beat the charges and get his job back. If he resigns he's gone for good. I've seen it happen in a prison. An officer was caught on film bringing drugs to an inmate. He got caught with the marked bills too. The union got him reinstated with back pay because they didn't let him exit the prison grounds before arresting him. Supposedly they didn't give him a chance to turn the money in to a supervisor.

What about handing drugs to an inmate? Was that part of the charge sheet?

If this cop were black, I have to say that his picture, which was very easy to find, would most likely have been up in this thread before post #5, along with comments about "the Amish" and black people in general.

The union lawyers used a technicality to get him off. We were shocked to see him back at work a year later. Who would want to work with a scumbag like that? If he was willing to bring in drugs he would bring in weapons too. The union proved its worthlessness one more time in that case.
