A Seminole County jury deliberated for nearly four hours Friday before finding a man guilty of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm for shooting at George Zimmerman's truck in May. The jury also convicted Matthew Apperson, 27, of shooting into an occupied vehicle and aggravated assault with a firearm. The Winter Springs man faces a minimum of 20 years in prison because the crimes involved a gun. His wife and mother, who attended the five-day trial, walked out crying and would not comment. Apperson, a paralegal, sought to convince jurors he acted in self defense when he shot a single...

Donald Trump continued Friday night to highlight Hillary Clinton’s "basket of deplorables" remark — this time in quite a creative manner. The Republican presidential nominee walked onstage to the theme song of the popular musical "Les Misérables" at a Miami rally, sending the crowd into a frenzy. "Welcome to all you deplorables!" Trump told the audience, prompting a roaring applause.

Remember Donald Trump‘s ridiculously over-the-top WWE-style entrance on night one of the RNC? Well, he outdid himself tonight. He took the stage in Miami while “Do You Hear the People Sing?” from Les Miserables played and a giant mock-up image reading “Les Deplorables” was shown behind him. No, seriously:

The men come from any number of backgrounds and range from young to old. In the end, Pensacola police said, they were united by a common goal: having sex with minors. During a five-day stretch that ended Sunday, all 22 of the men — including a pastor from a Florida church — were dragged down by “Operation Undertow,” an Internet sting in which undercover agents lured suspected child predators via computer to an undisclosed Florida location, police said. The men were snagged after they responded to ads for sex with teenage males and females created by agents on “various websites,”...

Donald Trump is coming to a different Florida on Friday — a Florida where he’s on the upswing. Last time he visited the southeastern end of the state, for a Sunrise rally a little more than a month ago, Hillary Clinton continued to edge him in Florida polling averages. He’d suffered a spate of bad press over his campaign’s criticism of the Gold Star Khan family. He falsely accused President Barack Obama of “founding” ISIS. When he returns Friday, to hold a rally at downtown Miami’s James L. Knight Center, Trump will be fresh off a batch of new polls...

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. - An attempted murder trial in Seminole County took an unexpected turn Wednesday when witness George Zimmerman testified that members of the Black Lives Matter movement are “terrorist cowards.” Zimmerman is well known for his arrest and ultimate acquittal in the shooting death of 17-year-old African-American teen Trayvon Martin in 2012. He was in court Wednesday testifying for the second day in the attempted murder trial of Matthew Apperson, who Zimmerman claims shot at him during a 2015 road-rage incident.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans have gained ground on Democrats in registering voters in three battleground states and kept their razor-thin advantage in Iowa — encouraging news for Donald Trump eight weeks before Election Day. Republicans added hundreds of thousands of voters to the rolls since 2012 in states including Florida and Arizona, and narrowed the gap in North Carolina, according to data compiled by The Associated Press. In Iowa, Republicans prevented Democrats from surpassing them, aided by a court ruling upholding a ban on voting by ex-felons, who often register as Democrats. As Election Day approaches, voter registration drives are...

The mosque that Orlando nightclub gunman Omar Mateen attended was heavily damaged in an arson fire that Muslim leaders said was the latest incident in an escalating campaign of harassment and violence against the house of worship and its members. Given the timing — Sunday’s 15th anniversary of 9/11 and the start of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha — investigators believe the blaze that broke out shortly before midnight Sunday at the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce may have been a hate crime, St. Lucie County sheriff’s spokesman Maj. David Thompson said. No one was injured. The fire burned a...

DUMPING DOLPHINS I have to say, after the pathetic display by the Miami Dolphins yesterday - and I'm not just talking about their usual pathetic play on the field, but rather, the silly seated protest during the national anthem - I am sad to say, the time may have come to finally hang up my fins. To be completely fair, I must confess, I actually stopped watching professional football almost two decades ago... Don't get me wrong, I am still a longtime Dolphin fan... It's just they haven't played professional football since 2002. I remember the golden days of the...
