A member of the House Freedom Caucus on Friday called on the Justice Department's special counsel, Robert Mueller, to recuse himself in the federal probe into Russian election meddling. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Az) said the "integrity of his appointment" was in question due to Mueller's friendship with ousted FBI Director James Comey. "His ability to be impartial is doubtful because he has surrounded himself with highly partisan lawyers who make a special practice to line the coffers of Democrats," the freshman Republican lawmaker said in a statement, referencing attorneys Mueller has hired who have Democratic political leanings.

arly last August, an envelope with extraordinary handling restrictions arrived at the White House. Sent by courier from the CIA, it carried “eyes only” instructions that its contents be shown to just four people: President Barack Obama and three senior aides. Inside was an intelligence bombshell, a report drawn from sourcing deep inside the Russian government that detailed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s direct involvement in a cyber campaign to disrupt and discredit the U.S. presidential race.

Jon Ossoff’s loss in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional election on Tuesday isn’t just a disappointment for liberals. It’s a bright red warning sign, a blaring siren that should alert Democrats everywhere that they will not take back Congress without a radical change in direction. It looked to some like the party could retake at least one branch in Congress in 2018 just by staying the course. “I don’t think Democrats want a new direction,” House Minority Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said on CBS Face the Nation the week after the election. But since then, Democrats have lost four straight special elections in...

The Democratic National Committee raised nearly $4.3 million in May, making it the organization's worst May on record for fundraising since 2003, according to newly released Federal Election Commission data. In May 2003, the Democratic group pulled in $2.7 million. Although 2017 is an off-year for fundraising, the DNC has raised between $4.5 million and $20 million every May in the nearly decade and a half since then. The low number follows another rough fundraising month in April, in which the group hauled in $4.7 million, making it the worst April of fundraising since 2009.

President Trump may make significant changes to White House press briefings. The New York Times reported on Tuesday that the president is considering limiting the number of briefings to once a week. It also alleges he’s thinking about requesting reporters submit written questions to the White House in advance. That same day Press Secretary Sean Spicer held his first on-camera briefing in more a week amid rumors he may be replaced in a staff shake up. While Spicer did not deny a potential departure, he did confirm the office of communications is looking to fill vacancies.

Supporters of Sen. Kamala Harris have been calling me to ask if she’s coming across as too strident in her questioning of Justice Department officials testifying before the Intelligence Committee. “You know, she seems kind of mean,” one caller said. “She’s not mean,” I said. “She’s just being Kamala.” Unlike many politicians, Harris did not work her way up the ladder in the glad-handing world of city councils and the Legislature. She came into the Senate via the courthouse, first as a front-line prosecutor and then district attorney in San Francisco, followed by six years as state attorney general. She...

First, an admission: I have seriously underestimated Donald Trump. After spending more than three years tracking the construct of the GOPe strategy to elect Jeb Bush, and having lost the most single important battle in May 2014 to stop it, I was deflated and disenfranchised. Few were willing to accept the road-map and sheer level of Machiavellian strategy deployed by the professional political class. Every single prediction (tripwire) which stems from understanding the construct was triggered in the exact sequence. We resigned ourselves to the outlook that Tom Donohue, Mitch McConnell and their team were going to pull it off....

Paul Nehlen, a Republican businessman from Wisconsin’s first congressional district, has just launched his 2018 congressional campaign against the anti-Donald Trump House Speaker Paul Ryan. This is the second time Nehlen is challenging Ryan, after coming up short in the 2016 GOP primary in Wisconsin’s first congressional district. "Speaker Ryan didn’t help Mr. Trump defeat Hillary Clinton, and even pledged not to defend the president,” Nehlen said in his announcement. “But I have a message for Speaker Ryan: The American people are not done fighting for President Trump’s good agenda. That’s why I am announcing my second challenge to Paul...

I’ll keep pointing out the obvious. Just like the previous battle in the intelligence community, there is a battle between Black Hats and White Hats within the U.S. Justice Department’s (FBI and DOJ) unelected career bureaucracy. If you read the Washington Post report claiming President Trump was under investigation for Obstruction of Justice by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, you will immediately note the first paragraph was framed specifically around “Anonymous Officials“. Again, tonight those same “anonymous officials” are mentioned in a Washington Post report claiming Jared Kushner is being investigated. (snip) Never, ever, underestimate the severity or skill of a...

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said Democrats on the Judiciary Committee will support subpoenaing James Comey to testify if needed, arguing it is crucial for the former FBI director come before the panel.  Feinstein sent a letter Thursday to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman of the committee, saying they are on the same page about the need for Comey to testify before their committee, which has oversight of the FBI.    "We unanimously believe that Director Comey should testify before our Committee regarding serious concerns that have been raised about political interference with FBI investigations and possible obstruction of justice. ... Be assured...

It is admittedly a small matter in light of the assassination attempt made on several Republicans, however, I sure hope the good people of Georgia punish the Democrat in the special election on the 20th. I trust this guarantees the win. A double digit win would be awesome.

Afghanistan’s two presidential candidates Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah have finally agreed a power-sharing deal, drawing a line under a contested election that has dragged out for almost six months. The agreement, which bestows substantial power on the losing candidate, was finalised on Saturday and made public in a ceremony on Sunday. Parties met late into the night over the past few days to seal the deal before Sunday, when an announcement of the final result of the UN-run election audit is expected. Negotiations, begun in July and finalised earlier this week, were drawn out because Mr Abdullah, the losing...

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Twelve employees of a Democrat-linked group focused on mobilizing black voters in Indiana are accused of submitting fake or fraudulent voter registration applications ahead of last year’s general election in order to meet quotas, according to charging documents filed Friday. Prosecutors allege that 11 temporary workers employed by the Indiana Voter Registration Project created and submitted an unknown number of falsified applications. According to a probable cause affidavit, a supervisor for those canvassers, Holiday Burke, was also charged, as was the group. Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said State Police found no evidence of voter fraud or...

Sanders said the current model and strategy of the Democratic Party is "an absolute failure." "The Democratic Party needs fundamental change," he said. The New York Times and other mainstream outlets have been filled with alarming stories recently about the possibility, voiced by Jeh Johnson, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), that our voting process in the November election could be subjected to cyber-attacks. Johnson told reporters in Washington (and state officials in a phone call on Monday) that he was considering designating our election system as “critical infrastructure, like the financial sector, like the power grid” because there is “a vital national interest in our electoral process.” There is only one problem with this — there is no credible...

House Speaker Paul Ryan and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy have issued a very promising report about President Trump so far in his presidency. Compared to his immediate predecessors, Mr. Trump is forging ahead in his bid to better the nation and move forward. “To date, President Trump has signed 37 bills into law, placing him ahead of the last four administrations,” the two Republican leaders noted in a report issued Thursday.
