House Bill 1752, sponsored by a trio of Democrat representatives in the Philadelphia area, would provide “for the annual designation and holiday observance of the first day of the Islamic lunar month of Shawwal as Eid al-Fitr Day in this Commonwealth.” Eid al-Fitr, one of two major Muslim holidays, is celebrated at the end of Ramadan, a month of intermittent fasting and religious observances. According to a House memo, the holiday “includes two to three days of celebrations, and it begins with a special prayer...

Obama's Eid al Fitr Greeting Leaves Out Victims of Islamist Slaughter The president forgot whose "innocent lives" were "taken during the month of Ramadan." July 8, 2016 Phyllis Chesler    It is the end of Ramadan and the Eid-al-Fitr feast. A greeting from the American President is appropriate. But, as ever, this President uses this opportunity not to bring diverse people together but to further divide them; perhaps, even to drive a stake through the heart of reality. Obama literally talks only about Muslims who have recently been slaughtered; he does not mention, even in passing, the fact that infidels have...

The Philadelphia School District will add two Muslim holidays to its calendar, placing it among the first in the nation to do so. In what would be an even rarer step, Mayor Kenney said Tuesday he also hopes to adopt the holidays for city workers. He has created a task force to determine how the change can be accomplished. A spokesman from the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Washington said his group is not aware of any cities that have included the holidays, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, in their municipal calendars. "Philadelphia's history is based on being a place...

Bits and pieces have emerged over the past few days about Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez’s troubled life. But two significant pieces of the puzzle are missing: Why did he ambush two military sites, killing four Marines and a sailor? And was he propelled to do so by his own demons or at the direction of someone else? Until last Thursday’s shooting, the Kuwait-born 24-year-old was not on the radar of terrorism investigators. As a result, a portrait of his background, contacts, computer use and travels must be assembled from the ground up and pieced together. He blended into everyday life in...

Not one day – not twenty-four hours after the Chattanooga jihad mass murder – the symbol of American individualism, capitalism, and the capital of the world, the Empire State Building, one of the foremost symbols of American freedom, celebrated the Muslim “holiday” of Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan. Ramadan is the most violent month of the year in the Islamic world, because Ramadan is the month in which Muslims renew their devotion to Allah, and violent jihad is a supreme act of devotion to Allah. All told, 2,988 people were shot, burned, blown up, beheaded, or hacked to death...

Muslims in Ethiopia protested in the capital Addis Ababa during Eid al-Fitr prayers on Thursday, as part of a two-year-old campaign against what they say is government interference in their religious affairs. … Demonstrators chanted “Allahu Akbar” and hoisted banners that read “respect the constitution”, referring to allegations that the government has tried to influence the highest Muslim affairs body, the Ethiopia Islamic Affairs Supreme Council. Ethiopia, long seen by the West as a bulwark against militant Islam in the Horn of Africa, denies the claims, but says it fears militancy is taking root in the country. …
