America’s education system needs a complete overhaul. As an 18 year-old who just graduated from public high school , I have seen, firsthand, the problems with education in the United States. To me, it’s no shocker that we are falling in educational worldwide ranks every year. Our education system preaches anti-American knowledge and shames conservatism in every facet. From private colleges to public middle schools, these biases can be found in most classrooms. A quality education always begins with the educators themselves. Unfortunately, especially at the highest level of education, students aren’t being given the best educator available. Instead, colleges...

Mexico's air force has been flying tons of grain into Oaxaca state in the south of the country to deal with dwindling food supplies caused by roadblocks set up by protesting teachers. Last month, eight people were killed in Oaxaca in clashes between the demonstrators and police. The protesters oppose reforms that allow the federal authorities to remove teachers who fail evaluation exams.

An elite Manhattan school is teaching white students as young as 6 that they’re born racist and should feel guilty benefiting from “white privilege,” while heaping praise and cupcakes on their black peers. Administrators at the Bank Street School for Children on the Upper West Side claim it’s a novel approach to fighting discrimination, and that several other private New York schools are doing it, but even liberal parents aren’t buying it. They complain the K-8 school of 430 kids is separating whites in classes where they’re made to feel awful about their “whiteness,” and all the “kids of color”...

In case you were wondering if there was any impact of top ranked universities dropping the requirement that history majors study U.S. history:Apparently, yes. Sadly, non-history majors know even less.God bless America - we’re going to need it with this, the most expensively non-educated generation ever to emerge from the hallowed halls of America’s propagandist system. As long as you get them while they’re still young:The Peter Pan generation can’t be duct taped soon enoughWelcome to the 4th of July in Neverland, where the word “independence” no longer exists. The Millennial Anthem: “run, run, lost boy, they say to me; away from all...

One of the most inaccurate narratives promoted in the Detroit school bailout debate is that poor urban districts like Detroit are underfunded compared to schools in more affluent suburbs. What this storyline fails to acknowledge is the role of federal money in hiking funding for poorer urban school districts. All school districts get some federal money, but poor districts get a lot more, and the difference is significant. Click to enlarge To illustrate, the average amount of federal money received by all Michigan school districts was $513 per pupil during 2014-15, but poor districts like Detroit ($3,494 per pupil), Benton...

Our final update on our story out of Fredericton High School in New Brunswick, Canada—where twenty-seven hundred pages obtained by an access to information request revealed adult migrant men attending classes, harassing their younger Canadian peers while demanding gender segregation, halal foods, and even demonstrating excitement over the bombings in Brussels earlier this year.

A controversial policy that required Collingswood public schools to call police for nearly every incident of student misbehavior has been "reversed," Mayor James Maley said. The change comes after parents complained that their children, some as young as 7, were questioned by law enforcement for incidents such as roughhousing on the way to the cafeteria, allegedly making a racist comment at a third-grade class party, and a playground fight between two middle school boys. Parents did not receive any formal notification of that increase until School Board President David Routzahn and Police Chief Kevin Carey each put out a statement...

People used to expect that attending something sponsored by religious organization required abiding by mores and behavior that religious body professes. There was a simple option for avoiding the ideas or practices of a belief system you don’t agree with: don’t frequent their space. This courteous expectation naturally applied to all religions and expressions of faith. California is now attempting to end this system of free association that allows people to define their local and religious cultures. California Senate Bill 1146 (SB 1146), which is slated for a vote Tuesday, seeks to limit the religious exemptions from federal Title IX...

In a state ruled by a former Jesuit, perhaps we should not be shocked to find ourselves in the grip of an incipient state religion. Of course, this religion is not actually Christianity, or even anything close to the dogma of Catholicism, but something that increasingly resembles the former Soviet Union, or present-day Iran and Saudi Arabia, than the supposed world center of free, untrammeled expression. Two pieces of legislation introduced in the Legislature last session, but not yet enacted, show the power of the new religion. One is Senate Bill 1146, which seeks to limit the historically broad exemptions...

To increase male student retention and combat sexual violence, one California university is offering a “safe space” for male-identifying students to discover their authentic masculinity. “Dudes Understanding Diversity and Ending Stereotypes (DUDES) is a traveling Men’s Center, housed in the Campus Diversity and Inclusion Center for students who identify as Men, as well as women, transgendered students, and male allies,” the University of Redlands states on its website. “If you’re standing on the outside of this stuff, maybe it looks like bullshit, but that’s cool too.” Tweet This The DUDES Resource Center, the description elaborates, “provides support for students who...

In the English language, a certain type of baked chocolate dessert is known as a "brownie." This is very problematic, of course, because a lot of people have brown skin. If you say the word "brownie" out loud, you might hurt the feelings of a person with brown skin. And that's bad. That's why we have the police. On June 16, police were called to an unlikely scene: an end-of-the-year class party at the William P. Tatem Elementary School in Collingswood. A third grader had made a comment about the brownies being served to the class. After another student exclaimed...

Emails between school officials at one Canadian high school reveal the school has been struggling to integrate into the school adult Syrian refugees, who reportedly are bullying and threatening students and teachers, as well as making advances on young teenage girls. One email from the head of the school’s international students department expressed concern that the Brussels attack would have a “trickle down” effect on the refugee students. After receiving a tip about Fredericton High School in New Brunswick, Canada — a region that has been aggressively resettling thousands of Syrian refugees — Canadian news organization TheRebel submitted a freedom...

Christopher Douglas is an associate professor and the chair of the Department of Economics at the University of Michigan-Flint, where he teaches a half dozen classes. He has undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering and economics from Michigan Technological University as well as a doctorate in economics from Michigan State University. Yet, Douglas has said he would have to complete additional coursework and also pass the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification to teach at a public high school in Michigan. And he isn’t alone. Ross B. Emmett is a professor of political economy and political theory and constitutional democracy at James...

A reader writes: I was able to get a summer internship at a company that does work in the industry I want to work in after I graduate. Even though the division I was hired to work in doesn’t deal with clients or customers, there still was a very strict dress code. I felt the dress code was overly strict but I wasn’t going to say anything, until I noticed one of the workers always wore flat shoes that were made from a fabric other than leather, or running shoes, even though both of these things were contrary to the...

The nation’s oldest public school – and the alma mater of five signers of the Declaration of Independence – is embroiled in a racial controversy that may be its biggest test in nearly 400 years. Boston Latin School, founded in 1635 and still one of America’s most prestigious high schools, has undergone an administrative shakeup, faces growing demands from community leaders and is the subject of a federal investigation. The controversy arose after two black students claimed on YouTube that racism courses through hallways and classrooms, and the administration turns a blind eye. “The fact that our administration failed to...

A Detroit Public Schools teacher who lives in Novi was the basis of an article in a suburban newspaper that inaccurately portrayed Detroit Public Schools as being neglected by policymakers and taxpayers when compared to suburban schools. The article appeared in the same week the Legislature approved a $617 million bailout of DPS, which included $150 million extra for unspecified spending. The article originally appeared in the Novi Hometownlife newspaper, with the title “Separate, unequal: Inside a Detroit classroom,” and then was picked up and run online by the Detroit Free Press. It made several claims that are not supported...

UNC has removed “guidelines” for avoiding micro-aggression incidents on campus that included both of those behaviors. According to a statement released in the wake of concern over its free speech policies, UNC says the information, which was posted by a school employee in a forum intended for faculty and staff to share information and discuss potential policy changes, does not reflect the school’s official policy on handling questions of campus speech.
