Mexico's air force has been flying tons of grain into Oaxaca state in the south of the country to deal with dwindling food supplies caused by roadblocks set up by protesting teachers.
Last month, eight people were killed in Oaxaca in clashes between the demonstrators and police.
The protesters oppose reforms that allow the federal authorities to remove teachers who fail evaluation exams.

Why am I not surprised?
They should just fire all of them and hire a new crop of teachers who are willing to actually learn the material they are supposed to teach.
Despite what apologists for illegal immigration claim, Mexico actually does have decent universities. They should be able to hire new teachers without too much trouble.
Mexico’s teachers are very similar to our own in entitlement and political power; our teachers own the Democratic Party (their political arm).
Wife and I visited Oaxaca about 15 years ago. We flew in from Huatulco on a spotless DC-3.
We found a peaceful, old Spanish city in the mountains. Spanish language seemed to be secondary in favor of a local dialect.

I remember years ago a protest there by natives (Indians) about the lack of schools and hospitals; I believe the army was required to restore order. Sounds fairly remote...
I’m not sure teaching grads from, say, Monterrey would be welcome in Oaxaca. It appeared that there was a distinct Mexican Indian population in the southern mountains, unlike Mexico City and north.
I’m not sure; the issue in the unrest I described seemed more about just building the facilities themselves.
There’s a racial divide in Mexico. That’s the key to understanding politics south of the border.
I cannot care less about Mexico’s problems. Sympathy card is max-ed out and expired.
Oh definitely; unlike later independence movements in colonies, the independence movements in the Americas (including our own) were driven by “white” colonists rebelling against the mother country (as opposed to non-Europeans fighting to throw off subjugation). Throughout the Americas, those Europeans still dominate those countries with a couple of exceptions (again, including our own).

Good point; the Mexicans on their TV shows don’t look like the ones pouring into this country. I guess you can say Mexico is gentrifying the whole country, sending the natives here.
