Texas lawmakers added more than $6.5 billion new dollars to public education, allocating more total state funding to education than ever before. There’s a lot of interest in where all the money is going. The biggest recipients of education funding are public school districts, which receive financing from both state coffers and locally-collected taxes. But charter schools, public schools that are funded entirely by the state, will benefit, as well. Charter schools are given more autonomy in exchange for academic and innovative results. Because charter schools are another school option for many students, they help provide a crucial impact on...

Many Americans crow that our higher education system is “the envy of the world,” even though it’s nearly impossible to point to any proof of that. In truth, however, some Americans look down on our system, saying that it is clearly inferior to that of other nations, such as Japan and Finland. A recent study published by the American Enterprise Institute, “International Higher Education Rankings” by Jason Delisle and Preston Cooper prompts my title. The authors have undertaken a comprehensive analysis of 35 advanced nations, examining their higher education systems along three metrics: attainment, resources, and subsidies. In the study,...

We live in a time where upside down is considered to be right side up, and Liberals are working hard to prove that statement seven days a week, 365 days per year. Take ANTIFA for example, they claim to be an ‘anti-fascist‘ group who are ‘fighting Nazis‘, yet in reality are themselves a fascist group who use violence, threats and intimidation, like the real Nazis did, to promote their ‘anti-fascist’ message. We see something similar popping up on college campuses all across America as Liberal universities claim to be ‘fighting racism’ by being racist. Welcome to the new idiocy in...

The modern American university has changed almost beyond recognition from the form it had even 100 years ago. It is larger, more “diverse,” more of a business, and more industrialized with relatively fewer teachers and more bureaucrats than ever before. Those changes have led to new problems. Higher education, if not broken, is at least seriously injured. Some critics feel the damage is fatal and the whole system should essentially be abolished. I want to focus on just one cause and a few of its effects. The cause is the involvement of the federal government via the money which is...

The American Founding generation fought a long, bloody war to free themselves from a tyrannical government, only to see the people eventually embrace the very system they struggled to throw off. That may seem like a stinging indictment, but careful examination of U.S. governance today reveals that it rests on essentially the same philosophical foundation as the 18th century British system Americans rejected. The founding generation developed a brand new conception of government, resting it on the consent of the governed and the idea that governing institutions must operate within constitutional constraints. Today, we still see the vestiges of those founding ideals...

Students who are searching for objective truth should shy away from any course with the word “Studies” in its title. Centered on opinion, persuasion, and propaganda, these courses seldom include rigorous evaluation of provable facts. According to the Hoover Institution, California’s educationists1 have been handed a defeat in their attempt to impose a wildly liberalEthnic Studies curriculum on their students. When the curriculum was circulated for public comment, its authors probably thought that it would be largely ignored. Full of educational jargon, curriculum documents are not easy to read, and seldom attract much notice. This time, an avalanche of public...

Yesterday i was on facebook and noticed people saying, oh, Walmart is not selling ammo anymore! Its a start! A start to what? People going to local stores and buying ammo somewhere else? These idiots think just because Walmart is not selling ammo that law abiding citizens and criminals will not get ammo elsewhere? I so so sick of this subject its unreal.

LOVELAND —A Loveland High School teen is back in class today after Thompson School District (TSD) officials apologized and cleared him of a report to “Safe2Tell,” claiming he made a threat on the school, that was actually a family outing at a shooting range. On Wednesday, TSD Superintendent Marc Schaffer notified the parents of Nathan Myers that he could not return to school until the district completed a full investigation after Nathan posted a Snapchat video on Tuesday of several handguns and an AR-15 belonging to his mother. The guns were being packed for a family shooting trip to the...

$200 tax stamps are legally required to own most NFA-regulated items, such as suppressors. (Photo: Chris Eger/Guns.com)The 1934 law that regulates many of the cooler items in the gun world, the National Firearms Act and its associated taxes raises many questions. Here are some answers. HOW DID THE NFA MAKE IT INTO LAW? Introduced into the 73rd Congress on May 28, 1934, as H.R. 9741 by U.S. Rep. Robert “Bob” Doughton, a North Carolina Democrat, the legislation sailed through Capitol Hill in less than a month. For historical perspective, the country was amid the Great Depression and lawmakers in the...

Using coloring books to teach kids is a cool fun idea. But why are these female heroes always drawn from the same left leaning pool? Where is Hedy Lamar, Sandra Day O’Connor, Betsy Ross, Ayn Rand. https://mwlawca.com/family-law/free-coloring-pages-inspired-by-inspiring-women/

Recent numbers released by the American Academy of Dermatology revealed a dramatic spike in the incidence of melanoma cases among young women. Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer, and for women aged 18-39, its rates have increased by 800% from 1970 to 2009. In Caucasian women under 44, the number of cases has increased by just over 6% annually. (1) Now, in addition to being the most dangerous, melanoma is one of the most common cancers in young adults (especially young women). More than 7,000 people in the United States are expected to die of melanoma in...

I hope the Socialist brats will eventually remember that, without capitalism, they will be living in “grinding poverty” at the mercy of a dictator As more high school and college students are indoctrinated by their teachers and professors into accepting socialism as the only solution to their future, the country seems to fall deeper into anomie. Anomie is “the social instability resulting from a breakdown of standards and values.” They are so lacking in knowledge of their own country’s history that they believe what the Marxist professors and the MSM have been repeating ad nauseam, that we are a democracy...

A public art event in Grand Rapids, Michigan next month will feature men and women with Down syndrome performing as “drag queens” and “drag kings.” Children with Down Syndrome are amazing, beautiful people, with a capacity to love that most people who have never met one might be surprised by. We watched a movie called “Mr. Blue Sky” about a Down Syndrome girl who married a non-Down Syndrome boy, and it was a wonderful and touching film. But children with Down Syndrome have a diminished capacity to think and reason, and as such much be protected. The folks at DisArt...

President Donald Trump signed a memorandum on Wednesday to cancel the student loan debt of disabled veterans. “Today I’m proud to announce that I am taking executive action to ensure that our wounded warriors are not saddled with mountains of student debt,” Trump said in a speech at the AMVETS National Convention in Kentucky. More than 25,000 disabled veterans will have their student debt forgiven, the president said.

As a semi-retired business writer who taught in Detroit 35 years ago, I returned to the classroom because a local high school was unable to replace a Latin teacher who had resigned. I hold an advanced degree in medieval studies and renewed my certification to teach Latin, history, and social studies. Once in class, I witnessed firsthand the politicized atmosphere of today’s factory-style government-monopoly schools. My first exposure to school politics came when I renewed my certification. The 1982 certificate only listed the courses I could teach. In contrast, the 2018 version had a 300-word “Code of Ethics” that amounted...

YouTube has just banned a 14-year-old girl for a video in which she spoke truth and reason about the LGBT agenda and its activists. The video was swiftly removed and her channel banned under the guise of “hate speech violations.” NewsBusters reports: "Soph, known on Twitter as @sewernugget, has been penalized by YouTube previously with suspension for 'dangerous' humor and poking fun at leftist orthodoxy. With approximately 1 million subscribers before she was shut down, she rose to fame for poking fun at topics such as radical Islam, climate change, and pedophilia among Hollywood elites." How can YouTube justify shutting...

There are several types of ammunition styles designed for various purposes.(Photo: Jacki Billings/Guns.com)Looking at a shelf full of handgun ammunition can feel like a cryptic message — .45 ACP 200-grain SWC, 9mm PARA 115-grain HAP, .357 Mag 158-grain HP+P, FMJ, LRN, FMJ just to name a few. Knowing what to look for can change the quality of accuracy and firearm function.Firearms companies, like the military, employ acronyms and abbreviations as descriptors to fit on boxes. With so many different calibers, bullet styles and load combinations, it can boggle the mind. What is necessary for home protection? At Guns.com, we can...
