In November, shortly after the election, Bharara met with then President-elect Donald Trump and his senior adviser, Jeff Sessions, who is now Attorney General. After the sitdown, Bharara told reporters in the lobby of Trump Tower that Trump and Sessions had given assurances he could remain U.S. attorney of the Southern District. Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney who was fired today was also the attorney who brought charges against conservative activist and author, Dinesh D’Souza back in 2014. D’Souza was sentenced to 5 years probation and 8 months in a community confinement center. Dinesh D’Souza faced political persecution after he directed and released anti-Obama film, “2016: Obama’s America”. He was indicted over illegal campaign contributions. It was an obvious witch hunt. I'm interested in the opinions of anyone who saw Dinesh D'Souza's new documentary at its opening yesterday. It was very well done, but it filled me with sadness in that I live in a very Republican area and the theatre had just a smattering of patrons. The small audience was enthusiastic, but we were too few for this high quality offering. I knew about half of the people there! D'Souza's message was delivered to the choir.
