Phil Donahue is done talking for MSNBC. The network canceled his prime-time program yesterday, ending a return to television for the legendary talk-show host that began in July. "We're proud of the program, and we're disappointed that the show was not able to attract the viewership we had hoped for and expected," MSNBC general manager Erik Sorenson said in a statement. Donahue was unavailable yesterday, but is expected to release a statement today. Taped episodes of the program will air tonight and tomorrow. Next week, an expanded version of "Countdown to Iraq" will air from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m....

MSNBC viewers got a lively hour Wednesday night/late afternoon as Donahue came live from Los Angeles at 5pm PST/8pm EST with Dennis Miller as the guest for the hour. So much good stuff, but only so much time to transcribe it. But we got down some of the best parts. Miller so flustered Donahue that he went on a rant about how people like Miller are trying to "marginalize" liberals. Becoming a parody of himself, Donahue whined about how "you're making us to be some sort of wimpy kind of people who, woo, woo, we don't get it. We don't...

Look, Donahue's already off the primetime schedule, so it won't hurt too much to give the dipsh-t ratings. Maybe just tape it if you're being monitored by the Nielsen company. And Chrissy Matthews will have on Bernie Goldberg. Man, I love the Sweeps period!!!

Rooney: Journalists Liberal, 'Suprised' Conservatives Won60 Minutes commentator Andy Rooney who expressed 'surprise' at 'how conservative America has gotten,' nonetheless showed he was more aware of political idealogy than Phil Donahue.Appearing on MSNBC Tuesday night, to Donahue's dismay, Rooney agreed with best selling author and Former CBS Newsman Bernard Goldbergs contention that most journalists view the world from the left.'I think that most people I know tend towards the liberal direction, yes.'When Donahue disagreed, Rooney was taken aback, 'You don't think that is true, come on Phil!'

Phil Donahue's days at MSNBC are numbered.

NBC News executives, under pressure from corporate owner General Electric to improve ratings, are likely to cancel his talk show by year's end.

If Donahue gets the ax, it'll be the strongest indication yet that star power alone doesn't make you a hit on cable and that, with a variety of viewing options available, cutting it there is tough.
