Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said this weekend that he will introduce a resolution to rename the Senate's Russell Office Building for Sen. John McCain, who died on Saturday at his home in Arizona. McCain died 13 months after he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Paramus, N.J. (CBS) – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed a bill into law Saturday that requires new school buses to have lap and shoulder seat belts. The legislation is in response to a deadly school bus crash in Mount Olive, Morris County. The bus was headed to a field trip back in May when it collided with a dump truck.

John McCain requested that former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush deliver eulogies at his funeral, CBS News has confirmed. McCain, who had been suffering from an aggressive form of brain cancer, died Saturday at the age of 81 at home in Arizona. Both Mr. Obama and Mr. Bush will deliver their remarks during a service at the National Cathedral. Former Vice President Joe Biden will speak at a separate service honoring the senator in Arizona.

Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., joked about how somebody saving a drowning President Trump would be a "catastrophe" at the start of an event in Sunshine, Fla., on Sunday. In a video reported by the Daily Caller, Hastings said he first learned of the joke from Ari Silver, whose father is former Florida state legislator and rabbi Barry Silver. “Do you know the difference between a crisis and a catastrophe?” Hastings said, retelling the joke. I stand by my prediction of Republicans picking up 11 seats in the Senate. The most recent generic survey results should make Democrats queasy. The path of generic number charts are eerily like they were in 2010 and 2014 which is very bad news for the Democrats. The current average of the four newest generic surveys shows a sharp drop in the Democrats’ lead. While the Democrats’ led by 6 points two weeks ago, it has dropped to just 2.25% now. The state judge who on Monday set a $20,000 bail for five defendants arrested at a remote New Mexico compound where authorities say children were being trained to conduct school shootings has a history of issuing low bail to violent offenders. Judge Sarah Backus, an elected Democrat, ordered the two men and three women to wear ankle monitors, have weekly contact with their attorneys and not consume alcohol or own firearms while on bail. The Democratic National Committee has yet to speak up about the disturbing domestic abuse charges against its deputy chair Keith Ellison, which have come to light just a few days before the Minnesota primary for attorney general. The silence has not gone unnoticed. First of all, former White House Press Secretaries Ari Fleischer and Sean Spicer want to know what's up with the double standard. Where is the media on this? Is it because Ellison, a Minnesota representative who has served in Congress for six terms now, is a Democrat?

Kellie Collins, a former congressional candidate in Georgia’s 10th District, was charged with the murder of her former campaign treasurer, Curtis Cain. The allegations of murder follow Collins’ advocacy for “responsible” gun control laws during her campaign. WSB-TV reports that she argued for stricter legislation “to protect the community.” Police found Cain’s body in Collins’s apartment with a gunshot wound. Cain did not come in to work last Tuesday, prompting deputies to check in on him. Police estimated that he was dead for roughly a week.
