Seven children, ages 5-15, were killed in a raging fire that destroyed a Brooklyn home early Saturday morning, law-enforcement sources said. The mother of at least three of the children, and one other youngster, were critically injured. The fire started at 12:23 a.m. in the brick home on Bedford Avenue between avenues L and M in Midwood. A tropical cyclone killed at least six people in Vanuatu, UNICEF said Saturday, confirming first casualties from one of the most powerful storms ever to make landfall. At least 10 North African migrants died when their rubber boat overturned in the southern Mediterranean while more than a thousand more were rescued from eight other vessels over Tuesday and Wednesday, Italian and Tunisian authorities said. Islamic State militants reportedly have burned to death 45 people in the western Iraqi town of al-Baghdadi on Tuesday, just five miles away from an air base staffed by hundreds of U.S. Marines. The identities of the victims are not clear, the local police chief told the BBC, but some are believed to be among the security forces that have been clashing with ISIS for control of the town. Three people have died in an anti-terror raid in eastern Belgium, according to reports. Federal prosecutors were quoted as saying there had been a police operation near the centre of Verviers. The Belga news agency said there were several casualties and police activity was continuing. Boko Haram militants opened fire on northern Nigerian villages, leaving bodies scattered everywhere and as many as 2,000 people feared dead, officials said.
