Three people have died in an anti-terror raid in eastern Belgium, according to reports.
Federal prosecutors were quoted as saying there had been a police operation near the centre of Verviers.
The Belga news agency said there were several casualties and police activity was continuing.
Explosions and gunfire were apparently heard near the station, according to Belgium's public broadcaster RTBF
"An operation is under way," a source in the mayor's office told AFP without giving further details.
Another official said separately it was "jihadist-related".

Guardian UK: Belgian public television channel RTBF said on its website that the area of the city near the station had been blocked off by police vehicles, after an police operation against a presumed terrorist group . It reported that two people could be seen on the floor.
Explosions and detonations reverberated in Verviers, towards the train station, a witness told RTBF.
I had this darling squirrel feeder box in my backyard, the squirrels were everywhere, loved watching them lift the little lid and get their nuts out. One night we heard lots of movement in our attic, so my husband called a pest control company. Naturally there were tons of squirrels up there so the exterminator set traps..........he came one day to check the traps and I was in the backyard putting nuts in the squirrel feeder, he said, JEESH! There are reports of ongoing raids in suburban Brussels and other places.
I hope the other European countries will be obligated to perform similar raids, especially in “no-go” areas, so other jihadis don’t get away.
