D.C.’s delegate to Congress urged the Washington Redskins to throw in the towel after a key loss in court over the team name. Last year, the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board decided 2-1 not to renew the team’s trademark registration, ruling that Redskins is offensive to American Indians. The case went to court, and today U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee upheld the Patent Office decision. Lee noted that Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, in 1898, defined Redskins as an “often contemptuous” word, 70 years before the first team trademark was granted. The ruling doesn’t ban...

What does MSNBC's Alex Wagner have against stately Indian warriors? On today's Morning Joe, Wagner said it was "amazing" that anyone could look at the Washington Redskins logo and name and not find it controversial. This NewsBuster can understand the debate over the "Redskins" name. But the logo? Has Alex actually had a look at the logo? Could Wagner be confusing it with the Cleveland Indians' Chief Yahoo? Seriously, what could be more stately, grave and dignified than the Redskin logo? View the video here.

President Obama hosted a cocktail party of sorts in the newly refurbished White House State Dining Room Tuesday night, baiting Democratic senators with drinks and hors d’oeuvres and making assurances on the pending Iran nuclear agreement, Politico reported. The event—described as “somewhat social, somewhat businesslike” by Sen. Ben Cardin (D., Md.)—found Obama discussing spending bills, climate change, the recent Obamacare Supreme Court ruling, and the pending Iran nuclear deal, the deadline for which suffered another delay the same day. “He took us back to what the framework was when the initial agreement was announced in Lausanne,” explained Sen. Chris Coons...

District of Columbia council members voiced their support Wednesday for a new law that would allow non-citizens to vote in local elections.“These are residents who are well on their paths to citizenship,” Councilman David Grosso said. “Unfortunately not all of our residents have a say in the politicians who are elected to represent them.”The bill would allow permanent residents in the city who are not American citizens to vote in elections for mayor, city council, the attorney general and State Board of Education members, among other things.“They are our neighbors and our friends and they want to see our city...

FULL TITLE >> DC Residents Say Washington Needs To Change Name To ‘Black City,’ Tear Down Monuments Of Slave Owners [VIDEO] CNN’s Don Lemon recently suggested that our nation’s capitol ought to “reconsider” the Jefferson Memorial, considering the fact that Thomas Jefferson was a slave owner. Now, a video produced by Nicholas Ballasy shows that some Washington, D.C. residents — in the wake of the shooting at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston and the racial debate it sparked — thinks our nation shouldn’t stop at the Jefferson, but go so far as redesigning the American flag and changing the name...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) —Donald Trump might be a presidential candidate mired in an ongoing national controversy, but he still makes time to offer feedback to newspaper columnists. This time, the scribe who drew Trump's ire was the Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart, who called out the billionaire's "baldly racist xenophobia" in a column earlier this week. In response, Trump sent Capehart, who is African American, a handwritten note: "Jonathan - You are the racist, not I," Trump wrote. "Get rid of your 'hate.'"

D.C. police said the 18-year-old Spires — who might have been high on synthetic drugs — tried to grab a cellphone tucked into the waistband of a recent American University graduate headed to a gathering with friends. The two struggled, police said, and the terror began. Police and a witness interviewed said passengers trapped in the moving train huddled at both ends of the car and watched in horror as Spires allegedly punched 24-year-old Kevin Joseph Sutherland until he fell to floor, then stabbed him until he was dead. Court documents say the victim was cut or stabbed 30 or...

Speaking to reporters from the White House Monday, Press Secretary Josh Earnest refused to issued comment on the murder of Kate Steinle, who was killed by a seven-time felon illegal alien last week in the sanctuary city of San Francisco. Her killer was deported five times before taking her life and admitted he went to San Francisco because he knew he'd be able to escape federal authorities thanks to sanctuary policies. "I can't speak to this specific case," Earnest said. "I'd refer you to DHS." After refusing to issue comment on "this specific case," Earnest launched into an attack on...

By trying to resolve policy matters, the U.S. Supreme Court "stopped being an umpire," Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) told NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday. Cruz said the justices have become team players: "They put on an Obama jersey, they got out the eraser, they erased terms in the (Obamacare) statute and rewrote it, joining the Obama administration. ... In a period of 24 hours, we had two decisions in the Supreme Court where a majority of the justices violated their judicial oaths," he told NBC's Chuck Todd. "In one, they ignored the text of federal law -- they rewrote...

Prison worker Joyce “Tillie” Mitchell had sex at least 100 times in a sewing-shop storage closet with one of the convicted killers she helped spring, a former inmate told The Post — hours after her clueless husband insisted she never could have bedded the escaped criminals. Mitchell spent her jailhouse days giggling, chatting and showering gifts on convicted cop-killer David Sweat in the Clinton Correctional Facility workplace she was supposed to be supervising, said the former prisoner, Erik Jensen. She would routinely end her shift by disappearing into the 8-foot-by-15-foot stockroom with the 35-year-old Sweat for at least a half-hour...

WASHINGTON — The District’s top Catholic leader has weighed in on the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage. “The law of the land is the law of the land,” says Archbishop of Washington Cardinal Donald Wuerl. “We certainly follow what the law says. That doesn’t mean we change the word of God. That doesn’t mean we change the scriptures, or the church’s millennia-long tradition of what marriage is.” Everyone is welcome to the faith, Wuerl says: “Nobody is turned away because of their sexual identity, because of their race because of their ethnic background. And are we not all...

Despite the recent Supreme Court ruling upholding ObamaCare subsidies, opponents of the law remain poised to strike a key blow against another component of the health care overhaul in a matter of months. Republicans, with help from Democrats, have gained momentum in their long-running effort to repeal the law's controversial 2.3 percent excise tax on medical devices. The House voted 280-140 to nix the tax, which went into effect in 2013, in June; the debate heads next to the Senate. While Republicans have tried dozens of times to unravel all or parts of the law through repeal legislation, this bill...

The powerful head of Vietnam’s Communist Party will travel to the United States for the first time next week, and said he expects President Barack Obama will visit Vietnam later this year. Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said he hopes to build trust and create more opportunities to improve relations. The White House said Trong would arrive on July 7, and the leaders would discuss trade, human rights and defense cooperation. It did not confirm a visit by Obama to Vietnam, which would...

...CONGRESS AN ‘UNHOLY MESS,’ MOST REPUBLICANS ARE REALLY DEMOCRATS Every conservative who cares about the unholy mess known as Congress should visit conservativereview.com (CR) and examine the “Liberty Score.” Every liberal who wonders how conservatives view their elected leaders should examine it as well. The “Liberty Score” is refreshingly (and painfully) honest, as opposed to other scorecards that have been known to be compromised. It separates the wheat from the chaff and the frauds from the champions. It tells you who the real conservative heroes are, who comes close, and who doesn’t deserve to be in the same sentence with...

Those handy digital blueprints that enable anyone to 3D print gun parts or even a weapon from scratch could be under threat thanks to a new proposal from the State Department. A notice posted on June 3rd in a recent Federal Register show that some changes are being made to the International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) regulations. Hidden within the proposal, which restricts what gear, technology, and info can and cannot be exported out of the US, is a ban on posting schematics for 3D printed gun parts online. The ruling comes just a month after Cody Wilson and, his...
