The powerful head of Vietnam’s Communist Party will travel to the United States for the first time next week, and said he expects President Barack Obama will visit Vietnam later this year.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said he hopes to build trust and create more opportunities to improve relations.

Trong’s visit comes as the former battlefield foes mark the 20th anniversary of normalized diplomatic ties.

The White House said Trong would arrive on July 7, and the leaders would discuss trade, human rights and defense cooperation. It did not confirm a visit by Obama to Vietnam, which would be his first.

Obama is expected to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in the neighboring Philippines in November. …

Another day, another dictator. And another check-mark on the Communist goals for the USA.

Must respectfully disagree. If, in 1945, we told the French to accept the new government in Hanoi—and get out of Indochina, because they were in no position to hold it—59,000 Americans might still be alive (along with a heck of a lot more Indochinese). As for Vietnam, it can be a powerful ally against China (whom Vietnam has never had much love for, to say the least).

Sec. Phu Trong has offered to campaign for and with his old friend Bernie Sanders, but his emails, phone calls and tweets all remain unanswered. This early in the campaign, Bernie doesn’t want to be seen with any real Communists, the fully unmasked Troglodytes. Maybe Mrs. Clinton will extend a proper welcome to her Vietnamese Commrade.

Mr. Obama must believe this to be a Nguyen-Nguyen situation.

Lets see, what it the proper protocol for this?

Does Obama just give a quick slight bow, or does he go to the waist and hold it?

Must respectfully disagree.

I agree with you that Viet Nam can become an ally that, along with ROK, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Japan, can become an alliance that counterbalances the hegemonic desires of China. Barack Hussein Obama is not the man to form such an alliance; Presidents Cruz, Walker, or Fiorina would be much better choices. In the meantime, Viet Nam isn't going anywhere politically, and there are numerous openings for private, NGO, and quasi-government initiatives there.

Especially with the Spratly Islands conflict growing in the South China Sea right now and China’s construction of military installations on the major epreefs.

Yup, and yup again. And there is a lot of western business and manufacturing there already. The lenses for my Pentax DSLR are both made in Vietnam, for example. And Ho Chi Minh city is so commercialized it almost looks like the Saigon of old.

Embracing Communism: Barack Hussein Obama.

Can’t say we didn’t warn you, America.

Of course, America doesn’t know the difference. (see: NEA, DNC, et al.)

They cannot become an ally with that kind of leadership. Ever.

My point was that Vietnam having a communist government is a fait accompli, that it would be a useful counterweight against Chinese expansion in the South China Sea, and I agreed with an earlier poster that Zero is not the person to pursue such an alliance. I don’t think that’s liberal, just realistic.

Calling such a thing a “fait accompli” in the face of liberal leadership of the USA handing it to them is liberal propaganda. We removed Saddam (a national-socialist Ba’athist) in a short period of time and could easily do the same to the CPV; surrounding Red China with the purpose of making the CPC fall would be more than doable then. So why back down to one aspect of world leftism for the zillionth time in two centuries?

There are plenty of other imperialists waiting in the wings to assume the post of POTUS.

A full scale invasion of Vietnam, what’s not to like. Considering the results against two far lesser opponents, what could go wrong. Vietnam has been begging to be an ally for the past twenty years. They would probably do anything we would ask of them, but heck, lets just attack them for kicks. I guess the last black wall was so successful for tourism, DC might need a few more.
